Richard, our host, has done a superlative job restoring this old mansion. While very comfortable, it felt as if we stepped into the late 1990s. He took us on a tour of the house and related the history of the family that built it. Photos of the house and families that lived in it were scattered throughout as Richard has... More

First, let's start with Richard, your host. Couldn't be more welcoming and enjoyed his tour of the home and insight into its history. The home has been kept up extremely well and has some subtle modern updates. The breakfast was amazing and gives you a great start to the day. Richard, you are the consummate host!

Having stayed at many B&B's over the years we would rate this as one of the best ever. The property is in incredible shape for its age, tastefully furnished and hosted by an innkeeper who is most attentive and committed to guest comfort and satisfaction. Rooms are large and comfortable with a full suite of amenities. Turn down service is... More

This B&B by far surpasses others where we have stayed. We felt comfortable from the moment we made our reservations with Richard, the Innkeeper, to the time that we sadly said goodbye. The mansion is beautiful and spotless. We stayed two nights in Mary's Room, which was cozy and comfortable. We would ask for that room again. Each morning's breakfast... More

Have you ever visited a historical mansion such as the James J. Hill house in St. Paul or Glensheen Mansion in Duluth, and thought to yourself, "Wouldn't it be great to spend a night here?" That's what the Alexander Mansion offers. The mansion has been restored meticulously, with beautiful carved wood, period chandeliers and every attention to detail. And then... More

This B & B was in a lovely location and beautiful décor & interiors. Our room had a queen bed, sofa bed and a full kitchen. Unfortunately it was in the lower level of the mansion (which we did not expect to be). Richard (the owner) was well versed regarding the mansion and the entire city. We toured the city... More

My 18 year old daughter and I escaped the "Ryder Cup" in Chaska for a day, and found this wonderful B and B online. Everything was beautiful, and the breakfast was absolutely outstanding! The best part of our stay was the conversation over breakfast - so much more interesting than a hotel breakfast with everyone on their cell phones. Richard,... More

There's nothing negative to say about this place. It's beautifully restored with superb attention to detail. We felt at home immediately, especially the dog! Richard is a dear man, with very interesting stories to tell. The breakfasts were amazing and I rarely if ever eat before noon. The other guests were very pleasant and interesting. We can't wait to go... More

A special, special place! Richard, the innkeeper, is an expert at hosting guests. The property is immaculately preserved and the lavish, multicourse breakfast will make you feel pampered and keep you satiated all day. Take the train from Chicago or Minneapolis/St Paul!

This Bed & Breakfast exceeded our expectations. This mansion was decorated period correct. The details were over the top. Richard provided wine at 6 to enjoy and we took advantage of the beautiful veranda. When we came back to our room there were treats and a little nightcap. What a wonderful touch! The breakfast was very much over the top.... More
