From the second we came till the second we left, we felt so welcome and well taken care off. This place is absolutly beautiful and so special. We loved sitting outside on the porch with a glass of wine listening to classic music from the radio. It was like stepping back in time! Our room and bathroom was gorgeous and the attention to details were stunning. We loved how pampered and spoilt Richard made us feel, he is really the best host we have ever met! And the breakfast, wow! I am still not hungry😅

Thank you Richard, we love Winona and your b&b! Next time we come from Norway, we will come again😊

We wish you a happy wedding in november!

I had the pleasure of staying in the Maude King Alexander Suite for one night. With the upcoming winter and the past several months of family togetherness due to COVID I needed a place to unwind, unplug and recharge by myself. When I arrived, I was greeted by the innkeeper, Richard who was so nice. He knows every detail about the history of the house. As he finished showing the other group around before me, I helped myself to a glass of the complimentary wine and explored the main floor before I got the official tour from Richard and was shown to my room. The house is incredible. It is so beautifully decorated. There are tons of books that you can borrow while you are there.

My room was incredible. It was clean and the bed was comfy. The bathroom was fabulous with a chandelier and large soaking tub with Watkins brand bath salts provided. I walked to Nosh where I had a lovely dinner and then returned back to relax and read for the evening. I grabbed a small glass of Sherry (also complimentary) before I went back to my room where I found chocolate and Irish cream waiting for me as well as my bed turned down. I slept great. Before breakfast, I went to the large wrap around screened in porch. The other guests were enjoying their coffee there as well. There was adequate room to social distance and myself as well as the other guests wore masks in the common areas.

Since the other guests were part of a group, I got to choose where I wanted to enjoy breakfast. I had a dining room to myself where I ate way too much of the delicious breakfast. It consisted of juice, coffee, tea, fruit parfait, pumpkin bread, frittata, salad and an ice cream sundae! I could not eat it all. I was able to leave my car there after I checked out to walk around and shop for a bit. I had the best time. I will now consider this as my new getaway. I wish I could've stayed for another night!

This was our first time visiting The Alexander Mansion, and we were treated like long-time friends. Richard's sincere attention to detail is illustrated around every corner. We were warmly greeted and given a wonderful tour and history of the mansion. Richard not only meticulously manages this unique bed and breakfast, but hes has become part of the mansion itself, interwoven in every single detail.

Our room was fabulous with every possible amenity dripping in true Victorian decor. Richard took the time to makes us welcome in our room and in the mansion. This warm welcome opened the door for us to meet other guests and have pleasant chats with all of them. Richard makes this beautiful house a home, even if it's only for a couple of nights.

THE BREAKFAST: To be clear, eat light the night before. You will be treated to such a luxurious breakfast that you've never experienced before. The five-course meal is all freshly cooked and served with true joy by Richard. He spares no expense, and a hike in one of the neighboring parks will be required after satiating yourself on the finest breakfast you will have ever enjoyed.

After checking out, we immediately looked at our calendar to find the next possible opening when we can return. Thank you, Richard for one of the richest weekends we've had.

This is the second time we stayed at the Alexander Mansion. The mansion itself is beautiful inside and out. The owner/operator, Richard, is the utmost host, waiting on you and spoiling you with all the little extras he provides. He serves a happy hour in the afternoon with several types of wine, And creamed sherry is always available as is tea. The tea room always has hot water available and many varieties of tea. The tea room is quaint and cheery. He also provides sodas and water in a mini fridge. Your room will be prepared for bedtime as Richard has already turned down your bed, turned on accent lights and music, and to top it off a small glass of Baileys Irish Creme and a chocolate served on tiny individual silver trays. The next morning Richard cooks and serves a 5, yes 5, course breakfast!! I ate every bite, fresh squeezed orange juice with a splash of almond extract from the Watkins factory (oh, be sure to visit the Watkins store in Winona too) and by the way, Richard uses all Watkins products!!a -back to breakfast-a fruit parfait, an Italian frittata, a salad, pumpkin bread, homemade by David, and then ice cream! If you are staying in Winona stay at the Alexander Mansion. You won’t be disappointed. Richard’s hospitality can’t be beat.

Usually when staying in many historic Bed and Breakfasts, one must sacrifice comfort for charm and history. This is not the case at the historic Alexander House. Every convenience a traveler needs is provided. The rooms have all the amenities including more than adequate closet and drawer space. Our bathroom was huge, and it had both a tub and a separate shower with excellent water pressure, a large medicine chest and more than an adequate number of electrical outlets in the bath and bedroom. Despite all the conveniences, the bathroom maintained its turn of the century design with most of its original, working fixtures. In the bedroom, all many drawers in the furniture were in good working order, the ironing board cover was brand new, and the bottom of the iron was spotless. All this is evidence of the great care the owners have taken to maintain this historic home and provide top notch comfort and convenience for their guests.

On each of the two mornings we were there we had an exquisite and unique breakfast. It was scheduled so that everyone in the home gathers together at the same time at a large dining table for a 5-course gourmet breakfast and wonderful conversation about the previous day’s activities in the area and what everyone was planning for the new day. The sophistication of the breakfast menu and service was in keeping with the elegance of the home

Not only is the Alexander House an elegant mansion from the late 1800s with a great deal of Winona history under its roof but Richard has painstakingly collected historic documents and photos making the experience of staying there interesting and fascinating. Experiencing the beauty and splendor of high society during the Victorian era was illuminating and enjoyable and Richard and David made sure that we experienced that luxury to the fullest.

We hope in the not-too-distant future to return to Winona all the way from our home in Florida to spend more time enjoying the Alexander House and Richard’s gracious hospitality.

We have stayed at many B&Bs in many different states and Europe, and they all pale in comparison to the comfort, elegance, grace and hospitality of the Alexander House and its owner and innkeeper Richard Grabow.

This is a beautiful hame and an outstanding experience. Your first contact will be with Richard, your host and owner of the B&B. Richard really understands service and hospitality. He makes you instantly feel welcome whether through the booking process or upon arrival. When you first enter the magnificent mansion, Richard will provide you with an in-depth initial tour. At that time, you will learn about an array of little touches touches that will help make your stay seem very special. Richard creates an atmosphere where sparkling conversation is encouraged, so the time flies by. We had a delightful time with him and the other guests. Morning will bring an excellent full course breakfast served at 9:00 a.m. At noon, we found ourselves still at the table, not realizing that the morning had passed with wonderful treats and pleasant company. The frosting on the cake is that the Mansion is also quite a good value. If you haven't been to Winona, it is in a lovely area of Minnesota and a good jumping off place for many things to see and do locally or in nearby communities. We will happily return to the Mansion and Winona!

This is our favorite place to stay in the USA. Richard and David have created an elegant inn and thoroughly pamper their guests. This was our first "outing" since the beginning of the pandemic. We were pleased with the sanitizing efforts, availability of hand sanitizer, mask wearing, and vaccination rate of guests and staff. We felt as safe as is currently possible. From the moment of arrival to the final "good bye" we felt welcomed and pampered. We can't say enough about the quality of detailed attention offered to everyone. The breakfasts are "to die for" and the conversation, evening wine reception, turn down service and treats are wonderful. The Alexander Mansion is a relaxing and elegant inn where pampering is not an exception but normal. Thank you for a truly wonderful stay. We can't wait to return!

This was our second stay at the Alexander Mansion. The first time we stayed in Mary's room. Mary had been the maid to the Alexanders and her room was still luxurious. This time we stayed in Maude Alexander's room, which was AMAZING.

Richard, the innkeeper, is charming and attentive. He greets you with a wine "meet and greet," a short tour, and excellent recommendations for dining out. With your permission he folds the sheets, closes blinds, and sets out a nightcap for when you you return.

Breakfast was a 5-course meal, starting with a fruit parfait. This was followed by a soda bread (pumpkin on day 1; scone on day 2), then the main course. Both days were egg-based (quiche and frittata) with salad. For dessert he offered ice cream sundaes, which we did not partake in, as both of us are lactose intolerant.

In addition to the wine, and excellent coffee served in the morning, all sorts of teas were available at all times, as was a bottle of sherry.

Richard is very conscience of COVID concerns and had separate breakfast rooms. The main dining room serviced 2 couples (one at each end of the long table): the tea room, and breakfast room each could could seat one couple.

This is a fabulous old house loved and nurtured by Richard, a fabulous host. Rooms and house are chock-a-block with wonderful curiosities: a cast metal spoonbill with a ring through its beak; a peacock named Junior; at least one lampshade that you could truly wear on your head at a party; and books, art, teacups, and furniture to ponder at your leisure. And stories as well: Richard is an excellent raconteur. Breakfast is a fine dining experience; this establishment would be more accurately called a breakfast and bed. You will not need lunch!

We had a fantastic experience at the Alexander Mansion! Richard is a warm and welcoming host, who tends to the many details that make this place special. The house is historic and beautifully maintained, with comfortable common spaces - so much to explore! The breakfasts were amazing- but be warned, consuming 5 delicious courses takes time! We stayed in the lower level suite/apartment- and while it’s in the basement, large windows provide a lot of natural light. This room has its own entrance, and a kitchen. It has a different feel than the rest of the ornate house, with some beautiful exposed stone walls that lend a rustic, simpler tone that we found very charming. The claw foot tub and period fixtures and cabinets keep the time period in tact, and a narrow staircase brings you to the main part of the house. We would definitely stay at the Alexander Mansion again!

Dear Patricia, Thanks for your question. We have one pet friendly accommodation, the Judge Thomas Wilson guest apartment. There are a number of accurate pictures of this unit on our website. Please call us and tell us about your dog and pet requirements. We just need some assurance that your dog is clean, well behaved, not too large, and is good with people. I love animals so this will not be a difficult conversation. We look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Richard
