There's nothing negative to say about this place. It's beautifully restored with superb attention to detail. We felt at home immediately, especially the dog! Richard is a dear man, with very interesting stories to tell. The breakfasts were amazing and I rarely if ever eat before noon. The other guests were very pleasant and interesting. We can't wait to go... More

A special, special place! Richard, the innkeeper, is an expert at hosting guests. The property is immaculately preserved and the lavish, multicourse breakfast will make you feel pampered and keep you satiated all day. Take the train from Chicago or Minneapolis/St Paul!

This Bed & Breakfast exceeded our expectations. This mansion was decorated period correct. The details were over the top. Richard provided wine at 6 to enjoy and we took advantage of the beautiful veranda. When we came back to our room there were treats and a little nightcap. What a wonderful touch! The breakfast was very much over the top.... More

The mansion is gorgeous, but it's the host, Richard, that makes it like no other. He met us at the door to carry our bag and showed us his stunning home. It is immaculate, warm and comfortable. We stayed in the Martha room with it's feather bed and antique pieces. There is no TV which was fine, but good to... More

No detail left unattended. From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed, owner Richard Grabow made sure our stay was fabulous. The 10,000 sq. ft. mansion is beautiful and rich in history. All of the rooms are exceptional including the Maude King Alexander Suite where we stayed. Richard is an incredible host and certainly a large part in... More

The house is very unique and impressing, Richard a very kind and helpful host, the breakfast was overwhelming, really much and very delicious (we had breakfast for one and a half hours), the room was very clean and everything just perfect and special. Definitely worth the money!

The hotel caretaker Richard is an excellent person who took personal care of us from the time we arrived Winona railway station up to our departure from the hotel. We were little early to check-in but he courteously allowed us to occupy our room. The hotel and the room depict an ancient architecture, spacious bathroom for my wife and my... More

My wife and I stayed at the Alexander Mansion for an anniversary weekend. It was our first experience at a bed and breakfast. The staff made every effort to accommodate our needs and the breakfast was an outstanding experience! I can't recommend it enough.

We stayed at the Alexander Mansion while attending the Great River Shakespeare festival. Wonderful. We are booked to return next year because we loved the historical beauty of the place and the warm and friendly host. Richard provides a great balance of 'hosting' and letting the group alone to figure out their own dynamics. Both times i stayed at the... More
