Was welcomed by Kate with a friendly charm. Some B&B's might be cold, others overly welcoming, whilst this one was just perfect. We felt heartily welcomed, but not like we intruded anyone's privacy. Room was nice, comfortable and a home away from home. Views amazing, in the morning I spendt some time looking at the lighthouse across the strait and...

Welcomed heartily, ate well, nice wee siting room to compensate for the teeny, tiny downstairs rooms (although very well equipped and clean as can be), fabulous cake and wonderful breakfast (heartily advise the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs).

We dropped in for drinks and cake. It was great. We have walked past a number of times and decided to drop in. It's a very welcoming place, with lovely homemade cakes, a variety of drinks and ice creams too. Kate was a fantastic host. We'll be back!

We had a fabulous time staying with Kate and Tom at Port Wemyss. Being in Burnside Lodge made our holiday. We had the twin room in the Boathouse which is simply furnished with really comfy beds. We had use of the cosy guest lounge with tea and coffee and books and magazines. We ate breakfast in the dining room looking...

What can I say. We are addicted to this beautiful spot. We cannot have a holiday in Scotland without a visit to Port Wemyss and Burnside. Not much has changed in Port Wemyss from my first review several years ago and Kate and Tom have managed to maintain the same standards as our first visit. Spotless accommodation , big breakfasts...

We've just had a delightful week-long stay at Burnside. We felt so at home, we didn't want to leave. Kate was a great host, warm and hospitable. Our room ('the Trophy Room') was comfy and spacious with lovely views over the rocks, sea, lighthouse and seals swimming in the bay. There's also a nice guest lounge. Breakfast was tasty and...

A very pleasant stay in a very good bed and breakfast. Views over the water with seals on the shore. Warm welcome by a very friendly host with coffee and cake. A good room that is kept spotless. Breakfast is plentiful and tasty. You can walk to the local pub for straightforward food, with plenty whiskies to choose from.

Our three days spent at Burnside Lodge were absolutely perfect. The location was nothing short of stunning from the lighthouse across the water to the seals sunning themselves on the rocks. The quaint pub within walking distance is icing on the cake. Kate and Tom were extremely friendly and made us feel so welcome. This is my favorite B&B of...

After a very enjoyable and surprisingly flat 26 or so miles cycle from Port Ellen in glorious sunshine and passing some lovely villages and a few distilleries on the way, we arrived at Portnahaven, a truly lovely spot. After enquiring as to where our lodging were to a local lad who was sending us the wrong way, an old lady...

We were there at the beginning of April and the weather was cold and wet. However, we got a warm welcome at Burnside lodge and once the heating was on in the communal lounge it was a cosy area to sit and chat over a glass of wine (not provided unfortunately!) Breakfast was delicious with free extra muffins to take...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We have been described as remote - we see this as a good thing - almost the furthest from the distilleries (but still only 15 minutes drive from Bruichladdich) and the regular bus service although excellent does not run in the evenings or on Sundays. We love dogs but even our three black labradors are not allowed in the house. Despite our best efforts the house is not easily accessible if you are unsteady on your feet. Our WiFi works perfectly in some rooms, but when the main body of the house was built in the late 1800's it was built to last, and the thick walls are not conducive to the transmission of radio signals.Lastly we have two children, naturally as parents we think they are amazing, they rarely stray into the guest areas but you may meet them at breakfast. Our eldest will of course offer free crab fishing lessons to guests of all ages should you be interested! ... more   less
