Detailed Reviews
Can not say enough about this resort. We went for a family ice fishing trip and they could not have set us up any better. From the time we called to the time we left they thought of everything we would need. They knew where the fish were, we had enough for a fish fry for one night we extra fresh fish to take home. Part of the service was they cleaned them for us and dropped them off at the cabin, WOW we loved that. We stayed in the Heritage cabin which had more then enough room for us. That huge table was so much fun being able to have everyone at the same table for dinner and play games with everyone around it was so much fun. This is definitely a repeat trip and 90% is due to the owners who took such great care of us and their resort.

Had a really terrific time at this resort! The cabin was spotless, and very well equipped for a big family gathering. We didn't want for anything. The beds were super comfortable...and the w alleyes were biting! Last but not least, everyone remarked on how friendly and helpful the owners and staff were. Next time we are in the area, there's no question where we will be staying.

Have spent our vacation here several times and the service and kindness is unbeatable. We feel like family. We stayed in the 'beach house' and it was quiet and serene. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in other than home. It's just magic!

For the first time in history, we left our vacation early due to the unbearable experience and treatment that we received while guests at Adventure North Resort in Walker, MN. I would not recommend Adventure North Resort to anyone. The proprietor Shay Fortier was not accommodating, was insulting, and created an incredibly stressful vacation.
The first disappointment with Adventure North Resort was the fact that the small screen TV in our rented beach house only received 1 channel. Adventure North Resort advertises TV's in every lake home, but fails to say that some TV's do not get basic reception.
Due to professional demands and a need to stay connected, we specifically asked if there was wireless internet service available in the Beach House lake home when we booked the lake home. Proprietor, Shay Fortier personally assured me that there was wireless service in each of her lake homes. The second disappointment with Adventure North Resort was the lack of wireless internet service available. The only place we could get internet service was by going to the small, uncomfortable, out-dated, cluttered office. This was not conducive to work and there were often other guests cramped into the small space, all desperately seeking internet access.
The third disappointment with Adventure North Resort was the arrival of construction contractors and earth moving heavy machinery. We were awoken in the early morning hours to the roar of heavy machinery. Much to my dismay, I witnessed trucks hauling large frequent loads of sand, dumping them near the front door of our lake home. The heavy machinery continued to haul load after load of sand from in front of our rented beach house dumping it in and along the shoreline of Leech Lake. The path they took started near our front door and proceeded along the full length of Lake Home property, in the front of our deck along the shoreline, obstructing our promised and peaceful lake view. The construction made the beach and water access a dangerous, noisy, and unnerving prospect. Conversation was impossible over the roar of the heavy hauling equipment. This activity continued until past 6:00 P.M. After two days of this activity, we decided to leave early.
The fourth disappointment with Adventure North Resort happened when I approached the proprietor, Shay Fortier, indicating my desire to talk over my disappointments, she defensively exclaimed that she "did not know when they (contractors) were coming and that it was not her fault." Sensing that this conversation would go no where, I informed her of our early departure. She then spitefully offered that she was not willing, nor was she contractually obligated to provide me a refund for early departure. Further stating that she would be happy to call the Cass County Sheriff, so that he could "determine how much we owed for our stay." Never having mentioned anything about the cost of our stay or refusal to pay, I was dismayed when the Cass County Sheriff representative arrived. Shay escorted the Cass County Sheriff representative to our rented beach house and proceeded to provide me with the contract and bill, and I directed her to use my credit card on file for payment and she sneered as she walked away
My final disappointment was when Ken, the representative from the Cass County Sheriffs office told me a person should expect this; it is construction season in MN.

Response from LeechLake, Owner at Adventure North Resort
Responded Apr 6, 2009
Dear Travelers, I want to reply to Gypsygirl's review of our northern Minnesota resort. Here in the northern woods we do not received quality TV reception, this is why we have over 200 movies in our office for guests to help themselves. Many families like the idea of little TV on their vacations. Unfortunately our internet connection was down the first three days Gypsygirl was visiting and we did everything we could to accommodate her. Gypsygirl became upset when our landscapers delivered equipment during her stay and began work during her last day as a guest. My husband and I wanted to be accommodating, although while letting her know we could return a portion of her remaining bill, we were cut off by her angry statement that Gypsygirl was not going to pay for her vacation at all, at which time we informed her that the local sheriff is who settles these disputes and he would be out to talk to her. Between the sheriff, my husband and I we again decided to give her a discount on the stay, when we approached her cabin we were again met with complete anger and rage that there was no way to offer her an olive branch. This was a case of an angry person taking it out in an emotional manner when we were ready to offer a way of recovering the last evening of her vacation. Following her vacation she has tried to stop the credit card charges, called the Department of Natural Resources and the county to hopefully report us for not having a permit for the 2 day landscaping project - which we did already have. Thank you for understanding this was an unfortunate and rare event at our resort. Warmest regards, Shay Fortier

Four families rented a variety of cabins at this resort. There were 20 people (13 children ages 1-17). The dock boys unloaded our boat and car and put the boat in the water upon arrival. We had fresh dish & bath towels every other day. The pool was 85 degrees and great for even those cloudy days. Wi-fi worked well from our cabin but that varies depending where you stay as it is based out of the office. The TV and satellite was a nice addition for those rainy days. If you like to fish, two of the best spots on the lake are right out the channel. The owners are around and quite available for any needs you may have but also leave you alone to enjoy your stay. My children were the youngest and appreciated the play ground (which was a bonus being right next to the laundry). We loved, loved, loved it!!!

I just spent a wonderful wintry weekend in Walker MN. I went with my family to Adventure North Resort. We drove up from the Cities despite a well founded threat of a snow storm. When we got there the cabin was so warm and toasty. We made a tasty dinner in the full kitchen. We spent one day playing cards and watching videos with our young kids and we celebrated 12 inches of fresh snow the next day with a trek through the snow down to the frozen lake with the kids.

I really can't say enough about our stay at Adventure North. The cabins are very clean and have everything you need. But, the things that makes this plave so incredible are the service and the people. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the staff who helped us unload all our supplies from the truck and boat. They then launched the boat for us and parked it in a covered dock. They put the trailer in a storage and brought the truck back. Every day when we brought in our daily catch, we just had to let them know if we wanted the fish fresh or frozen and they would clean, filet and package our fish accordingly. The staff and owners are very personable and friendly. The owner even helped us troubleshoot a problem we were having with our boat. Huge thanks to Steve, Shay and their staff for making our trip a wonderful experience. See you next year!!!

We have vacationed at Adventure North in the spring, fall, and winter. Every stay has been wonderful. Shay and Steve, along with Matt and the rest of their staff, do a fantastic job of keeping the cabins and grounds in great repair. They are so friendly and helpful. I lost count of how many times they cleared the road so we could ice fish in a snow storm! They are always willing to go above and beyond to see that their guests have a wonderful experience.
