This was an excellent first stay at a Bed & Breakfast for us! Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was delicious, especially the Scandinavian Fruit Soup! It was a great to unplug and sit in the reading room and watch the weather and lake. Having access to the entire grounds and being able to experience a lighthouse from inside the tower at night was truly a unique experience. We hope to come back sometime!
We spent the night in the Skiff house on a cold October night but inside was warm and cozy. We had full access to explore the lighthouse and the grounds. We learned a lot, so great to be able to stay in a piece of (working) history! The views are spectacular also!
It is like turning back the clock to early 1900s, beautiful furnishings and you are able to climb up to the top of hte lighthouse to see the lense as it turns. We enjoyed the staff and the other guests.
Treated a friend visiting from out-of-state and myself to a night in an active lighthouse! It was easy to find our way in the dark as it was a lighthouse, afterall! Since it was off-season, we had the place to ourselves and the gift shop was opened specially for us! It was such fun to be assistant lighthouse keepers with duties - record the weather and when oreships dock in the harbor, etc. Breakfast served by the friendliest keeper was a feast - eggs benedict, ham, orange slices, and fruit soup! Puzzles and games to do as there's a reprieve from WiFi; Lots of antiques in the lighthouse and outbuildings filled with history! Such Superior Memories to spend time on the shore of the Greatest Lake in the USA - "MN's freshwater ocean"!
We arrived after hours for check in but didn't have any problems with finding keys or our room. It's a quick walk to downtown and Castle Danger Brewing. Breakfast was more than filling and accommodating to vegetarians.
