We stayed in the Laguna Cabin which was rustic, cozy and well supplied. We enjoyed our time on the deck overlooking the lake. The property was clean and well kept. The management was helpful and friendly. We rented a pontoon for fishing and used the paddle boat in the evening. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Room was not ready- the air conditioner was broken and was not fixed for three days. It was 95-100 degrees that day we checked in, you would think the air conditioning would be on. My 86yo mom almost died from heat stroke. When we arrived the office was closed and locked. This was closed and locked the entire week we had booked. If you called you get voicemail and have to leave a message. When finally came was rude and asked if we had "messed with the buttons" as he walked out before I could reply. We were "upgraded" (his words) to a place by the road when we were supposed to be on the lake for three days till air was fixed. The beach was dirty, nothing put away and mgmt does not seem to care.
Pros: 1) Cozy, quiet beach gave it a private feel. The resort provides kayaks, canoes, beach toys, life jackets, etc. for an enjoyable day on the lake. 2) Cabins are furnished with the bare necessities. 3) Moose Lake State Park is a few minutes down the road Cons: 1)The beds were all very uncomfortable. We had 6 people and played "musical beds" so that people could try to get a good night sleep but it never happened. Even the teenager, who can usually sleep anywhere, woke up sore from the beds. 2) one of the bathrooms had a foam/cushioned toilet seat, which has a mysterious reddish brown stain on the back of it. I don't think I should have to explain why an absorbent foam toilet seat is a bad idea in a cabin that gets a lot of traffic. The bathroom smelled very strongly of urine and luckily our cabin had 2 bathrooms. No one used the bathroom with the foam toilet seat because the pee smell was so strong and disgusting. 3) cold water knob was broken in the bathroom tub leaving a constant trickle of water. Staff were unreachable on weekends so we left a message but it wasn't fixed during our stay. 4) noisy 2 lane interstate right behind our dwelling. There were times when it wasn't too bad, but for the most part it was a steady source of noise. 5) rec room seems like a nice feature until you go in and realize half the stuff in there is broken or missing pieces which makes it unusable. The pool table needs repair and there is not a complete set of balls. 6) some items provided at the beach such as toys, paddle boats, and life jackets need repair or to be replaced. Most toys and pool noodles were broken. We tried all 3 paddle boats, each one had something broken. Several of their jackets were ripped or had clips missing. Overall impression: For the price we paid we have had much better experiences, such as more amenities, comfier beds, and quieter surroundings, at other places. We tried this on a whim through a vacation booking network but I doubt we would come back. Live and learn! Tip: As stated, we booked through a vacation app and we had tried to contact them several times prior to our stay for clarification about things pertaining to our trip/the resort. When they finally did respond, they stated that their online bookings are managed through a third party (not unusual) but just know that you will not get a response from the poperty unless you call the property directly, and even then, you will have to leave a message and wait for them to get back to you.…
We rented a cottage for a long weekend. We enjoyed being able to sit out on the deck and look at the lake. The kids enjoyed being able to use the kayaks and paddleboats for free. The resort is dog friendly for a daily fee. The downsides of the weekend was that they had an ant problem in bathroom, lots and I mean lots of big carpenter ants in and around the shower. We told the owners about it and they just said they knew of the problem and had been treating around the cabin. Lighting in one of the bedrooms was terrible, they only had one little beside lamp for the entire room. When it got dark out you could not see what you were doing in that bedroom. And the bed in that room was very uncomfortable, it sank into the middle. Overall the stay was ok but we would not pay that much again to stay there.…
This is the worst resort I have ever been to. We rented a cabin for 8 days in May (fishing opener) and my husband was hospitalized the day we were to leave. We could not get our money back even tho' the cabins were mostly empty and not reserved according to their website. So they gave us 2 nights for our deposit and I asked for 3. After making excuses, they did give us 3 nights. It was filthy!!! We are 68 yrs. old. The carpet should have been ripped out before we got there. NO chairs to sit on to watch TV only 2 beds. The cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom were filthy and have not been cleaned in maybe several yrs. with mice poop in cabinets and drawers. The kitchen table fell down 2 times since it was from the 50/s and one could not sit on the chairs because the legs were broken and we would have fallen on the floor, besides you could not open the fridge when using the chair. Cannot sit at any table and view lake. You view the beach. Also they said it was stocked. One fork 2 butter knives. It was not stocked. It was a lie. In the picture, they do not show the other cabins and steps. The steps are all upheave led and broken if someone falls they will have a lawsuit. No railing for us elders. Very dangerous for kids also. If we would have thought faster, we would have immediately asked for a different cabin. FIFLTHY. When we left I gave the manager a list of issues they need to address. He said the new owner didn't have money to fix things. I told him then he should not have bought the property. I would never go back and I have told all my friends/family not to go there. Its the worse. This owner must by young and greedy way overpriced. In Ely on Lake Shagwa cabins that are beautiful and clean by present owners only cost 80.00 a night. This cabin was called the Laguna.…
Place was clean and well maintained. Maybe once a quaint log cabin resort. Now being crowded in by tawdry trailers. Overpriced for what you get. BEWARE: I was charged for an extra night and only later told there was a 3 day minimum. They said it was part of their policy. Nothing mentioned about that policy in their web page or when making the reservation. Was charged nearly $500 for two people for two nights in a tiny cabin. No refund. Will not be going back.
We stayed in the Lakeside cabin with two adults and two kids. We had a fantastic time and the kids were busy and very entertained using all the free amenities. The view was gorgeous. We have renewed for next year! The only cons would be that the kitchen supplies are basic - no cutting board or sharp knives. The top bunk in the 2nd bedroom doesn't have rails so we made a barricade out of pillows so my kiddo wouldn't fall out of bed. I also wish the screen door on the Cozy Cabin nearby had its spring tension adjusted because it was getting slammed for our entire visit. But the positives far outweigh these few little things! We can't wait to return next year. I came here two years ago under different management, and decided to give the resort a 2nd chance. I'm glad that I did - new management is very attentive to needs and polite with guests.…
Wonderful family vacation at Sand Lake Resort! We stayed in one of their cabins with our young baby over the 4th of July weekend. The resort was not too crowded but had enough activity to make it fun. The sandy beach is perfect for kids of all ages (including our baby!) to go swimming and offers lots of free water activities like kayaks, paddleboats, and water trampoline. We enjoyed relaxing on the spacious terrace patio overlooking the lake. Near the cabins, there is sand volleyball, basketball court, bikes, and yard games. My husband and I rented the studio cabin (Comfy cabin) with our 1 year old baby. The cabin is very clean and modern. It was tight for the 3 of us, so I would rent a larger cabin next time. The Comfy cabin is best for just one person or for a couple. On our last night, we rented a pontoon from the resort and the boat was very nice. Lots of fun to explore Sand Lake and fish from the pontoon. The owners of the resort were so kind, helpful, and friendly during our stay. Thank you Sand Lake Resort for a wonderful family vacation experience! …
