I went the short route. That meant only 1.7 miles carrying everything we needed for 4 days, and 261 feet of elevation on gravel. Pulling a cooler with 3 inch wheels. More dragging than anything. I mean me, I was dragging. The hike in was the short route. You can come from the other side if you are more ambitious. I am 49 and out of shape. Well, round is a shape, I guess. These rustic cabins are really beautiful! The area is densely wooded, the birds were abundant and the snowshoe hares made me think we were in a remake of Night of the Lepus. There are 4 cabins, a shower and latrine facility (nice!) a utility shed for axes and assorted items (fishing gear!) and canoes; one for each cabin and some rentals. There is plenty of wood, and electric light, heat, and wood stoves. A hand pump for convenience, although running water in the shower building is an option. There is a large lodge for common use. and one can really appreciate the character of the old North woods camp in the architecture. This would be a great place for couples, small groups. families who really like each other, or solo. You have access to the Superior hiking trail and to bears, wolves, coyotes and the rest of the food chain. The cabin we were in had a few board games and was stocked with silverware, coffee pot ( percolator ) and some pots and pans. I am told that your experience may vary depending on the cabin.

This place is fantastic! I booked a cabin based on a recommendation from my sister who described Tettegouche camp as "storybook" and "cute as can be." She was spot on! You have to hike into camp with all your belongings so definitely pack light. The trek in is tough with quite a few long, sloping hills. Once you complete the 1.7 mile jaunt, you will come to a clearing with adorable log cabins and a beautiful, scenic lake. I visited in late September and the leaves were gorgeous. The cabins have pretty much everything you will need for your stay: pots/pans, utensils, dishes, firewood, canoe & paddles, etc. I would recommend bringing paper towels, trash bags, and some kind of cloth as you will need to clean the cabin prior to your departure. The hiking is fabulous- definitely check out the Mt. Baldy loop and some of the overlooks (Lax Lake, Cedar Lake, etc.). For the price, this place is a must visit!

Three adults (40, 52, 67) and 2 boys who are 10 put on their snowshoes, packed their two sleds with food and sleeping gear and hiked the 1.7 miles to the cabins, up the long hill (about 300 feet elevation change) and then down the long hill to the Cabin C in 1 1/4 hours of hard work. We unpacked our stuff and built a wood fire in the stove and had warmth in about an hour. The 2-burner stove and a electric frypan and crockpot make cooking easy. The outdoor pump and shower building are conveniently located but the 7 mile round-trip hike to High Falls is what we came for and were not disappointed although the climb up the 'Drainpipe" was a bit more than we expected. The scenery on the up-and-down trails was exceptional (the portion on the Superior Hiking Trail in particular) and we will return. This is for people who love adventure.
