Some of the reasons for 5 stars: beautifully serene (check out the stars at night from the balcony!), large jacuzzi tub felt great after hiking, large room with nice windows to open to the night breeze, loveseat and chair and plenty of tabletop and windowsill space to keep our things in easy reach, Keurig-style coffee/tea maker downstairs, nice continental-style breakfast left in our mini frig, and helpful staff that’s there when you need them but not too chatty when you don’t. I especially liked the River Room which was the only one on the back side of the inn so I feel like it was even quieter. We hardly heard a sound in 3 days. We loved this place and how close it was to so many of the best hikes!
Spent 2 nights and it was very relaxing. Room was perfect and very clean. Having a small balcony to sit on in the evening was a bonus. It is very quiet and peaceful. Loved the log lodge feel of the place and it is tucked back in off of the highway so it feels secluded. Even with the COVID restrictions in place and no breakfast, the breakfast items in the room were just right to get the day started. We felt extremely comfortable at this Inn. Definitely would stay here again.
After a few days in Ely, my friend and I decided to explore the North Shore and stayed at the Baptism River Inn. It was in a very quiet area, right on the Baptism River (as described). Our room, The Evergreen Suite, was absolutely beautiful! Lura, the innkeeper, did a great job of ensuring we had everything we needed already available in the room. It is possible to walk toward the river, just a short way, but not an easy trek. The Inn is far removed from crowds, but there are a few restaurants that aren't too far away if you want to go out to dinner. Lura was helpful in already having the recommendations posted in the room. And, when we asked what the shower gel was (smelled amazing!), she emailed me a link...that's above and beyond!!
This inn is absolutely wonderful and very special..cozy while still spacious..welcoming but not fussy..from the balcony overlooking the river to the whirlpool bath to the unique decorating that sets each room apart...what a wonderful place to relax and recharge. Thanks so much!
Our daughter and son-in-law stayed here on their honeymoon, and recommended it. We looked forward to it, and were not disappointed except for the fact that there was no hot homemade breakfast served, nor was the sauna in use. One of the reasons for going to a B&B is for the 2nd B, but it's just not happening in MN nowadays. My wife also really enjoys a sauna, so it was disappointing that it was closed. Having said all that, we felt like the BRI was very nice. It is clean, in a secluded place and off the beaten path. Our room, the Sunset Room, has a balcony facing west. We enjoyed sitting on it in the morning with our coffee watching looking out over the forest. We also enjoyed the large whirlpool bath and the very comfortable bed. There was no TV, and I was glad of that. They have a nice collection of books there. Breakfast was yogurt, a scone one day and bar the next, oranges and apples, and fruit juice. It was OK, but a little heavy on the carbs. A hard boiled egg would be nice. If we had had a better breakfast and used the sauna I would give it a 5. While MN has restrictions I probably will not go to a B&B again.…
