This is a smaller...yet very well-maintained property. It has a great location...close enough to walk to several restaurants/gas stations/shops within the immediate area and much more just a short car drive away. This is probably one of the most energy efficient hotels I've stayed at in the recent past. They have awards/news stories on the walls with accolades of being very green. Examples: instead of disposable amenity bottles [shampoo/conditioner/lotion]...they have refillable dispensers in the bathrooms. Also...the main arcade [plus...there are many additional games throughout the stairwells] is only 'turned on' when it's in use. All lighting appeared to be florescent and many lights in the public spaces were on motion-sensor so they only turned on as needed...same with some of the soda vending machines--the lights only turned on while you were near them. I totally appreciate all their efforts to protect our resources...very commendable! The couple who owns this hotel are very invested in their property and it's evident they understand the notion of hospitality. I had several interactions/conversations with them...and they're delightful!

Now...onto the actual stay. We were originally reserved for an accessible room as that was the only option available at the time of booking. When we arrived to check in...I made mention that we didn't need an accessible room and if possible...would have liked just a king. Not only were we given a king...we were also surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a jacuzzi room...which we appreciated immensely. My little one just adored this and had fun playing in the huge bathtub. [It's a typical sized jacuzzi: probably suitable for two adults or a few smaller children.] The room was very spacious...modern and clean. We also had a mini fridge/microwave/sofa/work desk inside. In terms of room temperature...they hit the nail right on the head again by having a wall mount unit that guests...not the hotel...control. So...your room is always just the temperature you'd like it to be. We were very comfortable in our room. The bed was plush and cozy with nice bedding and plenty of pillows. [Additionally...there was an extra pillow and blanket tucked in the closet.] The bathroom was nice...abundant counter space. The towels were soft and nice quality. The shower head was adjustable...and the water pressure was just fine.

Back to that arcade I mentioned earlier...I forgot to say that all the games here...are free! Yes...FREE! Besides the free games...they also offer a total for six top quality massage chairs for the adults...100% free as well. I enjoyed a head to toe massage and felt like a million bucks afterward. Talk about sensational perks!

The pool area is large...and both the pool and hot tub are saltwater...no itchy skin or swimsuit discoloration. Terrific! The pool itself is large and lap swimming is definitely an option. The hot tub was a bit smaller [I'd guess like seven adults could easily fit]...but...that didn't pose an issue for us whatsoever as each time we stopped at the pool...we were the only ones there. There are lots of windows in there so it's a very bright space.

Breakfast in the morning was very good...slightly better than some other similar hotels. Besides the typical breakfast fare: cereal/toast/pastries/yogurt/juice/coffee/milk/fruit/etc...they had three hot options. There were biscuits and gravy...cheese omelettes...and big chunky potatoes. My favorite feature was the waffle maker. Typically you can only make one gigantic waffle...which is just way too much for me. However...the waffle maker here was four mini waffles...versus just a large one. Another 'smart' solution! Everything was hot and fresh and plentiful.

The wifi is fiber optic and I never experienced any lags at all. It worked perfectly. They also offer two guest-use computers in the lobby area. The hotel is very clean and quiet. Even though we weren't the only ones there...it sure felt like we were. There is also a little 'smoking' patio out back with benches for relaxing. This hotel is pet friendly...as we saw several dogs strolling around while we were there. If this is a concern for you...make sure to request a non-pet room when reserving. It is three stories tall...and there is an elevator. The ladies from housekeeping that we met were friendly and took time to chat with us. Also...the engineer was very friendly and noticed there were no towels in the pool area for us...and before I could even ask for any...he was there with a fresh stack for us.

I can't say enough good about this property. They all really understand the concept of hospitality and make you feel right at home. I'd gladly return here...and...wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I travel to Shakopee at least once a month and have tried all the hotels in this area. This Holiday Inn Express has been recently remodeled (2005)...they gutted the rooms and completely re-did them. It is wonderful--pretty rooms, COMFY bed and a BARGAIN!!! The owners are VERY nice and if you stay more than once they make a point to remember you. The rest of the staff is very kind as well. I would stay here over any other moderate priced hotel in Shakopee without hesitation...hey, and there are cookies at night too!

(and no I don't own stock in the hotel. I just travel alot and appreciate a nice room at gov't per diem)

Not a fancy hotel, but clean and comfortable. Breakfast had toast, waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits, bananas, juice and more. The games scattered around and the massage chairs in the breakfast area are all FREE! There is a shuttle that takes you right to Renaissance Fair front gate and picks you up at the end of the day.

Worst hotel ever. We reserved 2 King size suite rooms and the carpet is stained and dirty. Blanket on bed was thin and stained. The girl at the checking was hacking and not covering her mouth and she was the one “cleaning” the rooms too The elevator was jerking and shaking up everyone inside and several people were screaming and crying when they got off of it. One poor woman had a full on panic attack. In response the hotel put a handwriting sign on the wall saying that the elevator jerks when it goes up so if you’re not comfortable do t use it. They should have shut it down. I could hear it from our room it was awful. I will never stay there again

At 2:00 am there was loud banging on the door. The pass key was used and now they are attempting to break the safety chain. There is screaming outside the door. When the door is opened there stands a hotel employee and another couple. The hotel employee is screaming that we aren't supposed to be in this room. It was explained that this is the room we were given at checkin and she walked away.
Today I speak with the manager (a title she does NOT deserve) and she basically says too bad. There's a problem with their system and it's been happening for 3 weeks. Because of the trashy neighborhood and the people that frequent their hotel they have to constantly make sure people in their hotel belong there???
I said I wanted a refund and she screamed at me to never call there again.
You do NOT want to stay here.

We were abused by Kimberly who cursed at us on checkout. The manager wrote they had failed terribly in their customer service when asked by corporate for an explanation. The manager, Christine then proceeded to throw the only two professional employees we dealt with, Tim and Howard under the bus. Saying it was their failing for Kimberly’s attitude in “doing us a favor”by returning us our cash deposit. We had the receipt which was not sufficient for Kimberly who told us to count our “own d*** money back” when she finally thrust it at us.

The manager also claimed that her mother who was standing behind Christine, rolling her eyes at the unprofessional behavior exhibited by the employee, said we were being rude.

In spite of being cursed, we kept our aplomb and immediately reported the incident to Corporate who reimbursed us and apologized for such an unpleasant experience.

I do not recommend this hotel .

Overall, it was a descent place but bathroom could have been cleaner. Toilet paper holder was caulked together, and there was a dirty washcloth on top on shower curtain.
Bed was comfortable and coffee was out nice & early. Curtains didn’t close so that we could sleep in at all. Breakfast was ok.

We booked because our kids have a sports tournament in the area. We found out the next day the pool was being renovated. We called to cancel, because all the kiddos wanted to swim. The customer service agent proceeded to yell, use profanities, and hang up on each parent who called. We were dumbfounded.

Hotel was filthy, all hallways smelled like stale cigarette smoke and fresh weed. It appears this hotel is being used to house homeless people. Old campers and vans parked around back that are being lived in (In Feb). Asked for connecting room for our daughters; even though the room we were put in was next to a connecting room it was not available. They had lots of empty rooms - but none were clean.
They did not have a clean dbl queen available so we were placed in a King instead. People tried to get in the rooms during the night. Management and staff were swearing at each other loudly. Manager stated her staff was busy doing hospice care for her family member with covid (there at the hotel) so was unable to help me. You do NOT want to stay here.
