Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Saint Paul Hotel stands out for its prime location, which guests laud for its convenience to nearby dining and entertainment. The hotel's amenities, including complimentary transport and the acclaimed St. Paul Grill, are often praised by visitors. While the rooms are generally considered comfortable and well-furnished, a few guests have noted them to be slightly dated and have raised concerns about cleanliness. The hotel's cleanliness, however, typically receives positive remarks for the daily upkeep. Although the atmosphere is described as classic and inviting, some find the decor to be less contemporary. The friendly and professional service at the hotel is consistently commended, yet travelers caution that the overall experience can be quite costly, especially with the high prices for food and drinks.

Hotel's Favorite
My wife and I spent five nights at the St. Paul Hotel and enjoyed the excellent service and stunningly fine atmosphere of the hotel. The staff was uniformly friendly and helpful. While there were some loud events at lobby level, we never heard a peep from there or from neighboring rooms, so could enjoy a quiet stay.
There were a couple of minor issues in the suite itself that were remedied or reported to engineering, and that was fine.
In a luxurious hotel, it was a bit shocking to see nickle-and-diming charges in the suite's minibar. Six bucks for a bottle of water is absurd and detracts from the overall feeling of luxury and being appreciated as a guest. Eight bucks for a small packet of so-so cookies is a similar insult.
We were unable to sample the St. Paul Grill because of our own schedule, but we understand it is excellent. We will happily stay at the hotel should we return to St. Paul -- but we still won't buy anything from the scandalously overpriced minibar.

We stayed at this hotel for a wedding. We loved the location and the rooms were great. This hotel was clean. We just have one issue. When my husband checked in, the person at the desk said the only queen bed room was near the elevator and they mentioned that we wouldn’t like it because of the noise. Since they told him that the only remaining queen bed rooms would not be great due to their location, they asked if they could upgrade us to a king bedroom. We had originally paid for the queen room. My husband was excited about that option and said yes. We were happy in our room and I was pleased to have been offered the upgrade. Upon checkout, we were given the receipt for three nights of a room upgrade. We were charged $30! We were both confused since we were offered the upgrade. My husband was never told he would be charged and we did not even think we would be charged especially since the person checking him in made him seem like the remaining queen bedrooms would not be good. When you are upgraded seats on a plane upon arrival to your gate, you aren’t charged for the upgrade. Overall just disappointed because we had been excited that we were upgraded but then confused about the charge.

I booked a queen room but my gold status allowed us to receive a free upgrade to a king bed. We were only on the third floor as that's the highest they had available. The room looked out at Rice Park and the roof. If you get second floor I'm afraid you won't have much of a view on this side of the hotel. We also had a $12 credit for food but none of the restaurants are open so we didn't use it. The room was very nice and spacious. The bedding was silky and felt like a dream! Bathroom had nice amenities and soft towels. There is a stocked fridge and snacks but we didn't eat/drink any of those items. On the right side of the fridge is a small area where you can put your own drinks. The chair and ottoman were comfortable, and there is lots of lighting. The only negatives consisted of the snacks being sticky (again, we didn't eat them but we did touch them to see what they were), and the fan in our bathroom didn't work so it stayed pretty humid in there and somehow water got on the floor even though the curtain was closed tight. The best part of the stay was the staff. Front desk, valet, and housekeeping employees were all super friendly and helpful. Valet parking is currently only $15 a night which was a good deal. We only encountered one rude guest who was loud on our floor yelling and swearing late at night in the hallway, but once they were in their room we couldn't hear them. Many restaurants within walking distance so I'm not sure why so many people complain about the restaurant in the hotel not being open when you can just take a few steps outside to get food. You can also order room service! Lastly, the gardens outside are beautiful! We will definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in St Paul.

We spent 5 days at this highly rated hotel. We got a FYI talk when we checked in instead of high level service. They told us that there was no maid service because of Covid. That meant that during our stay that our room was not cleaned and towels and paper were not restocked. Coffee was not restocked and the cups were not washed or replaced. Towels were not replaced. soaps and other bathroom items were not restocked. My wife went by the desk and asked that toilet paper be sent up with towels and they asked her to wait while they retrieved them and had her carry them up. People on the elevator suffering the same BS there thought she was the help and asked her to bring similar items to their rooms.
We had 2 foot stains just inside the door on the carpet and it looked like a pet stain. We would have asked to have a different room but when we checked in the told my 95 year old mother that her Queen room was right next to the elevator and for $20 more she would move to a King. Great accommodation right?

We were given our key in a brochure of hotel services and asked where the bar, grill, and restaurant were. We were told they would be closed because of Covid.

I asked about lobby coffee service and they said none due to Covid.
Keep in mind that the hotel didn't require masks and all the people walking didn't wear masks.

We paid $150 a night for this type of accommodations and were greatly disappointed. I called the Hampton and Holiday inn both across the street and they both has cleaning service and free breakfast and coffee.

The best service we received was from the Valet service. They were spot on and Nate especially was "at our service". BTW his brother is getting married this week! If you need something seek him out as he's a class act.

DSR Greensboro, thank you for staying with us and submitting a review. I will share your kind words with Nate. There must have been a miscommunication as we do provide housekeeping service upon request and during a window of time while the guests are out of the room. The other hotels you mention do not provide service at all during the stay. I understand it can be upsetting that some of our restaurants are closed at this time with the Lobby Bar and Room Service being the available options. Please know there are several local options within two blocks including a Starbucks across the street. Please contact me directly if you wish to discuss further as we are always looking for feedback that makes us better.

Not offering guests water in the rooms without a minimum $6 per bottle charge which was not evident in a printed form anywhere in the room is not consistent with the brands promise. Nor is it a winning or best practice with the hotels peer group. I made this situation perfectly clear to the employees on duty as well as management.

Moreover, there were additional issues that should have been corrected like a bathtub that didn't drain properly. I had to call the desk to correct after using it.

The locked front entrance doors (in and out) were a nuisance at best and do nothing to prevent non guests from entering as I observed.

On the positive side, the room, shower and bathroom were very clean. There was abundant and quick to heat hot water. The water itself was remarkable, the absolute softest water I have ever encountered. Truly luxurious in an unexpected way.

The location is excellent and central to all motorways. The overnight COVID parking special at $15 per night with in and out privilege is a super bargain.

With attention to detail and better trained staff, the St Paul can aspire to its former greatness

We traveled for a holiday party and this hotel was absolutely perfect. The location was great in downtown St. Paul with so many destinations close by. I personally loved visiting Landmark Park and seeing the statues for the Peanuts characters. We had a room where the two wings met, it was a strange shape but they made the most of the small space. Unbelievably comfortable bed for a great nights sleep. We also enjoyed breakfast at the M St. Cafe which was pricey compared to what we would normally pay for breakfast, but the food quality was fantastic. Definitely a hotel to stay at with adults, children would be out of place.

I spent a weekend in the Twin Cities with my sister and her fiancée. We were welcomed graciously, and our rooms were beautifully appointed and super clean. We were well taken care of during our entire stay. The in-room dining was delivered with care and cooked by experts - everything was delicious, and its presentation was thoughtful. I love it here.

I booked a same day reservation online after selecting a website that had stpaulhotel reservations in the web address. This was not direct booking with the hotel. When I arrived at the hotel the front desk clerk would not check me into a room since they had not received payment from the online Travel agency. He offered to check me in to a room IF I paid for a room directly with the hotel. I had already been charged for the room through guestreservations. I called them to cancel and was told I could cancel with a 100% non-refundable charge.
I waited almost 30 minutes in the lobby until another desk clerk showed up and had the rational thought they they would be able to charge the guestreservations the following day and finally allowed me to check into the hotel.
Based on the initial attitude of the first front desk clerk I will never stay in this hotel again. I have been lucky in my life to generally have positive interactions when checking into hotels, which I do often. I definitely made an error selecting the website to book the hotel on, and it cost $100 more than the hotel direct rate and I could not check in for more than 30 minutes upon arrival. There was no one else in the lobby. So, my mistake, but the hotel staff could have absolutely handled it better. Put your guest in a room and figure out how to get your payment after the fact, they had the reservation information in their system. He simply would not check me in.
The hotel is also in need of updating. I get that the aesthetic of the place is an attempt to maintain the historic nature but worn out furniture in the rooms should be replaced at the price that this place charges per night.
The onsite restaurant had good food and a huge liquor inventory. Pricey but good.

This is a beautiful hotel. It is stuffy, though. Nice architecture, fantastic location. Guests are mostly older, and environment old fashioned. There's a tea time... so. But, friendly staff, Aveda products, comfortable furniture, large rooms. The mattress felt a little older, but room extremely clean. Quiet rooms because older construction. I asked for the food -to-purchase to be removed from the room since I just lost 32 pounds and didn't want to stare at candy, and they came within probably 15 minutes to remove it. They made a billing mistake but seemed to have corrected quickly. Bar is absolutely beautiful. Worthwhile for the location.

An unbeatable location in downtown adjacent to beautiful Rice Park, Ordway Music, and the Landmark Center with its lit clock tower. Staff is friendly, polite, knowledgeable and effective. The lobby is gorgeous and warmly decorated. A Landmark King guestroom was in perfect working order with wide views of St. Paul. A terrific value. Valet parking is also an excellent value. We stayed four nights.

the parking is 15 per day. There is not a direct shuttle from the hotel. The best option is to look for the MN State Fair Park and Ride online which offers many locations to park and hop a free direct shuttle right to the gates of the fairground. We can also assist with finding the Park and Ride locations.
