The St. James Hotel, the Red Wing symbol of hospitality since 1875 is concerned about the well-being of our guests, our workers and their families, and the Red Wing community. To keep our people and customers safe, the St. James Hotel will be temporarily closing until the end of April. Conditions will be continually evaluated with our hope to re-open in May. During this time, all hotel operations will be closed except that we will be honoring our commitment to provide Easter meals through our “Easter-to-go” offering. We believe that this decision is best for the safety and security of our people and their families, to ensure business continuity, and to honor our social responsibility. Take care of yourself and take care of each other. We hope to see you soon. Imagine 67 Victorian rooms, each exquisitely designed and decorated, with its own story to tell. Each luxuriously appointed, striking that perfect balance between traditional and contemporary.

I've been going to the St James for years now. I come back every year. The staff is fantastic and I love the history and the ambiance of the St James. I recommend a stay in the 'old' part of the hotel. There is much to do in Red Wing, and the National Eagle center and eagle watching in Wabasha is a must.

We decided to get away for a bit over Christmas break but didn't want to travel far. Since we are recent transplants to the Twin Cities, we decided to go for a night to Red Wing. It's a beautiful town. Although there was enough to do in winter there, I think it would be better in the summer. However, this hotel was SO worth the stay. Sometimes these old, historic hotels smell weird and are outdated. This hotel was lovely. It is very beautiful and clearly has been well maintained. It still has gaudy flower carpet in the lobby that I'm sure was high fashion at one point. The rooms are adorable. All room names are named after something having to do with the Mississippi River. To my delight, we got Samuel Clemens (I'm a huge Mark Twain fan). The room was large with its own Keurig. We had dinner at their restaurant and enjoyed live music at their fifth floor bar. They have free parking easily connected directly to the hotel. It is also right across the street from the Red Wing Shoe Outlet with the World's Largest Boot. The other side faces the river and the visitor's center. Awesome location! They have a coffee shop, boutique, ands spa, which we didn't visit but I wish we would have.

We stay here at least once a year on our trip to the East coast to see our kids and grandkids. We travel by Amtrak and since the train arrives at 9 pm we walk the block to the hotel rather than drive the 100 miles to home in the dark. We relax with a night cap in the bar and enjoy a leisurely breakfast the next morning. I would recommend it to anyone!

My husband and I chose the St. James Hotel for a little romantic getaway at a quiet time of year (end of February) because it was just far enough away without being hard to get to (only an hour away from where we live by car). The river town of Red Wing offers beautiful surrounding scenery at any time of year, and there is a wonderful restaurant on-site for dinner and breakfast (The Port). We had a king room with a whirlpool tub. Very relaxing. We'd go again.
