    Excellent Experience All Around
I stayed at the Crown Plaza for a League of Minnesota Cities Conference. I had a great all around experience. My room was everything I needed it to be. It was clean, quiet, comfortable (outstanding bed!), and well-equipped. The conference facilities were very good as well. The rooms were perfect temperature (too hot/cold is a common issue at conferences), were well-equipped, and easily accessible. The in-house meals and snacks provided between sessions were wonderful. Every staff member I interacted with was very friendly and eager to help. The only thing I would mention as a drawback is the parking. They have ample parking, but most of it is a long walk from the entrance and rooms. There are about 15 parking spots close to the entrance, but they fill quickly. Valet parking is offered. I am not sure how expensive it is, but may be too much for some. The temps were below zero for my stay. I have no ambulatory issues and I dress warmly, but there were others that struggled with the cold long walk during my time at Crown Plaza. There's not much they can do about this issue. I only include it here to inform those that stay during extreme weather and people with ambulatory issues.
Very happy you enjoyed your stay and that the team members you interacted with were nice. We hope you come back to stay at our hotel soon.

Friendly service, dated rooms, and but no masks required in gym
Stayed here for one night. Check in was fast and friendly. I had a king bed room and the interior of the building and the room were dated. The room was functional and small. Plenty of outlets built into lamps. A wholly unremarkable stay except for the health club. I went to use the weightlifting room and being from Chicago, I was wearing a mask which is required to use gyms in Chicago. There were several people in the gym exercising without masks. I do not know what the mask requirement is for gyms but I cut my exercise short and left the gym.
Hi romjongo, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for posting a candid review. While I am glad that you appreciated your check in experience, I was also concerned to read your comments about the interior of our property as well as people not wearing masks at our fitness center. I understand your dismay, and I am sorry. This is not the upscale experience that we wanted for all our guests. I will make sure to share your comments with our team for the necessary improvements needed on our end. Thanks again, and I still hope you would give us another chance in the future. Mike F. There are many hotel selections in the area
The front desk, Elise, did the check in. She was efficient, capable, courteous. Honored IHG membership with a welcome gift. Clean spacious lobby, hallway, and elevators. Quiet at night. Great breakfast with great restaurant service staff, but apples and oranges were spoiled. Negatives: 1. Parking can be an issue, very limited parking outside the lobby/entrance area. There is a parking structure and a parking lot further away with a ramp. The elevators there doesn't connect to the lobby floor, which can be inconvenient for moving luggage or unloading/loading. 2. Can be noisy in the morning - There is a major highway behind the hotel and behind the trees. 3. Long wait (30 minutes) for the missing amenities to be delivered either in the evening or in the morning. Elise promised to bring over but changed saying she would send an engineer to deliver them. Don't know how an engineer's role in this, when internet connection or WiFi isn't the issue. 4. Ran out of Kleenex in the morning, called the front desk and asked for more and explained that I needed it before heading out. Bree, the morning front desk staff, told me she's the only one at the front desk that's why the Kleenex couldn't be delivered, she asked if I could go downstairs to get it. Bree did not practice active listening because I just told her that I needed it before heading out. She then said she would ask the housekeeping to bring me a box now. 15 minutes later, still no show. I called agan, Bree said they haven't delivered to you? She then called again and they brought over a box in 5 minutes. Later when I checked out, there were at three other staff at the front desk. They were chatting in the back office. What she said she's the only one in the front desk and was super busy isn't true. The hotel was slow during the time I was there. Other info: 1. There are minor issues found in the room that didn't impact the stay but should be fixed, showed Elise, she took note of it. 2. They offer salad, snacks, and drinks in the mini market next to the lobby. 3. This hotel is a large complex, suitable for conventions or large meetings. Room cleanliness is great. Housekeeping did a good job. The night shift staff, namely, Elise, was good. Bree the morning shift seems to be less responsible and responsive to customer's needs/requests. Cleaniness was great, the service was average (Elise was good, Bree was mediocre).
Geminican, Thanks for your review of our property. We will discuss as a team and make the negative mentions you made as a priority to fix. I am very happy that you found the hotel clean. We will work with our staff to correct any poor service issues that we can control.

I stayed 2 nights, September 15th and 16th. I have stayed here before, also for Crypticon. It is always busy for Crypticon, and this year was no different. I arrived shortly before 3, and was in my room in no time at all. On the 4th floor, overlooking the side, or back of the rather large property. My king bed room was quite spacious. This year I did not bring a bicycle, but this room would have had plenty of space. The room was clean and comfortable. It smelled good. And it just looked good. The bed was very comfortable, and the air conditioning worked great. Everything worked well. There is a nice size parking ramp just outside the hotels side entrance. Along with a bit of uncovered parking. There is a decent sized parking lot at the far back corner of the hotel. The parking lots, and ramp, are very busy for Crypticon. It is a huge property, and this year I did check out the walking around the outside of the building. It is a very nice, and quite lengthy walk around the property. I used this quite a bit. Everyone I ran into from the property was very nice. The front desk personnel were very nice. Even with how busy it was at times. This year I did try out the on-site restaurant for buffet breakfast on Saturday morning. It was very good! Coffee and juice included. I had a very nice visit, and would absolutely stay again.

I am happy to hear it sounds like you enjoyed your stay at our facility. I will let our Cafe know your positive thoughts on breakfast. We do have some of our double rooms with two beds that are doubles, not queens. Next time when making a reservation with us book directly with our hotel and state you are looking for two queen-bed rooms and we will make sure that is what you get when you arrive.

This hotel is dated and not maintained well. My bathroom sink fills up and then hardly drains. The toilet doesn’t flush unless you hold the handle down. The shower rod is all rusty. Picture on the wall looks like it fell on the ground and there are broken pieces in it. I called room service, no answer. Called the front desk and they said that I’ll probably need to come down to the lobby…for room service? The outside entrance looks like they don’t care about the property…overgrown and dead landscaping. I am here for a family emergency but would not return. I mean, are they even trying to run a decent hotel?

A real disappointment. The room was not cleaned during my stay (despite being told that usual practice is daily cleaning), there's clearly mold in the ductwork (my only allergy - and started the moment I turned the heat on), and the toilet had green and brown streaks showing it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a very long time. Multiple events were going on, and they were clearly understaffed to handle it. Too many people were placed at tables - 9 or 10 at tables that were meant for 6 or possibly squeeze in 8. I'm honestly not sure we met fire code for the number of people in the room at one point! One of the event rooms had air conditioning running despite being in the 40s F/ 7ish C outside, and the venue said they not only couldn't turn on the heat, they couldn't turn off the AC! The hotel rooms are a long way from the event spaces. This can be an advantage in terms of quiet, but made going back to the room between sessions difficult. There are limited toilets near the event spaces - only about 5 stalls for women on the entire first floor. Limited handicapped parking. On the plus side, the staff was universally pleasant, but the cons outweigh the pros and I would not stay here again.

Disclaimer: For the price of the room, the comfort and the friendliness, this review would have received 5 stars if not for the AC problems. We were at the hotel recently for a convention, 4 nights total. We arrived in the midst of an unexpected heat wave that the hotels air conditioning couldn't keep up with. It felt like 100 degrees in all private rooms/conference rooms. The hotel did put out large water coolers to keep guests hydrated for the conference. It was explained that it was unusually hot weather and the hotel only had minimal cooling at this time of year, as most needed heat. The hotel itself was well kept, the breakfast (only included in your room with the correct booking) was excellent. When the weather reached a more reasonable temperature, the hotel was great. Those first 2 nights were awful though. This was unusual, as the conference is held yearly and this is the first time they've had an issue like this. We stayed in the presidential suite (living area/dining room, kitchen, powder room, full bathroom and bedroom). The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, the staff were very friendly

POSITIVE: This is my second time coming to this hotel for a convention. My first time here was quite pleasant. The staff were very kind and helpful. The room was tidy and clean. I love the fact that we have complimentary access to the athletic club. It's small but it was pretty nice and more substantial than other hotel fitness center I've seen (so far). The breakfast buffet was excellent! I do appreciate the fact that they let me check in as early as 10am because I overestimated how long it'll take to arrive from the airport! Check out also went pretty smoothy. I am an IHG rewards member so I got to checkout at 2pm, which was nice. NEGATIVE: My second visit was not so excellent, unfortunately. My card kept getting deactivated. Thankfully they were able to reactivate it quickly, but it has happened 3 times during my stay. This is more of a mild frustration: my friend also called in the day before we arrive to check if there were complimentary toothbrushes. Unfortunately when we arrived there were none. While it is a minor issue, I'm surprised they didn't check before telling us there were actually limited supplies or none at all. I'll just make sure to bring my own toothbrush to avoid this minor inconvenience in the future. VERY NEGATIVE: We had some unusually warm weather in Minneapolis where temps were up to the mid 80s. Unfortunately, they could not turn on the AC due to the building being old. I can understand the weather being unusually warm and not prepared, but what I do not appreciate was how the situation was handled. Fans were limited in supplies and people at the top floor had it worst. Some windows could not be opened the entire way, so air circulation in the room was very limited. Perhaps this is more of a design issue of the hotel but it's honestly time it's updated. Climate changes overtime and it's important to adapt. I'm sure my experience would have been as pleasant as the first time if the weather was closer to average but this situation really proved to me how the hotel chain prioritizes profit over the comfort of their clients. So, I don't blame the staff. They did their best, so thank you for your hard work, staff!! I'm more frustrated with the company as a whole. Please, update the heating and cooling system.

It is 85 degrees. They will not turn on the air conditioning today, tonight, nor tomorrow when it's supposed to be 80+ again. Why? We were told it was because they had an "old system" and it's supposed to be colder *Saturday*. It's Thursday. Maybe look for a hotel that isn't so outdated that they roast their guests and convention attendees.

Worse hotel experience ever. It’s a shame because some of the staff tries really hard. Had a security/safety issue, staff could care less, they said it was a police issue. Besides for the lobby, no cameras anywhere. It’s free Pickens for anything to happen because all the doors to the hotel don’t need access cards to enter. After the attack, didn’t feel safe at all. Better off staying at a name brand hotel where they know ho to Handel security issues and take customers safety seriously.
