The home itself is extraordinary, our room was incredibly spacious and comfortable, with an enormous bathroom, and breakfast was delicious. The location was ideal for our visit -- a short walk from Carleton College and the shops and restaurants of downtown Northfield. Pamela provided service that was simultaneously attentive and unintrusive, a combination that is difficult to deliver.

Stayed here on a High School reunion trip in a nearby town. So glad we did. Really enjoyed the classic accomodations. And the owner was so nice. She had a great breakfast and visited with us for a while. We would definitely stay here again.

I almost hate to give this place a 5 star review because I don't want it to get busy! We dropped our daughter at St. Olaf College and needed a room big enough for three and then two. Our room and bed were so homey, comfortable and cozy providing just the right nurturance for our goodbyes and sore feet after... More

This vintage b & b has it all-- beautiful bedrooms, amazing breakfast, and attentive, expert hospitality. My husband and I had such a comfortable and lovely stay! We will return gladly to Pamela's beautiful home!!

The Magic Door turned out to be one of the best b&bs we've been in the US. It's a vintage home restored to historic look and feel. All the decor and touches are reminiscent of 19th Century, early 20th. Pamela, the owner, has put a lot of thought, resources, and effort in presenting a very pleasant b&b. Our room was... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and positive review. It means a lot to get high marks from someone who is so well traveled! I really appreciate your feedback. Just two points I should clarify: The room that you stayed in and described is the Summer Suite which actually has a king sized... More

We chose to stay in Northfield as an access point because we were departing the next morning from M SP airport. What a delight! The magic door is a lovely home centrally located in the small town of Northfield. Pamela was so very accommodating with our schedule and made our stay most pleasant. Northfield is a wonderful town just to... More

Hi Sanders! Thanks for the nice review. Northfield is a sweet little town... but we can always use an infusion of Southern charm! I hope you and Suzanne will make your way back sometime. Maybe for a dose of Minnesota winter? I'm guessing you don't see much snow in Shreveport. Hot chocolate on the porch is almost as good as... More

This B & B was just what we needed to conclude a 2700 mile road trip through five states and two Canadian provinces. The Magic Door is wonderfully decorated with historic pictures of Northfield, and the owner/hostess was terrific on the hospitality scale. Super breakfast, warm conversations, and beautiful cats (better love cats). Intimate and elegant!

Thank you so much for the kind words Charlie. It was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely wife! But... to all of those with cat allergies.. please be advised that my cats are never allowed in any of the guest areas and receive introductions by request only. (when they are in the mood) More

A truly warm and congenial atmosphere with pleasant conversations. The breakfasts were exquisite; the room and bed were cozy and comfortable. Outstanding place to stay. I hope to stay there again this year.

My wife and I found this B&B through TripAdvisor when planning a college visit with our daughter who was checking out Carleton College. The reviews all sounded very good, so we came in with high expectations, and we generally stay at nice places when we travel as a family. Bottom line, our expectations were exceeded. Staying with Pamela at The... More

This is a real find especially for couples. Whether you are visiting the river towns of Minnesota or visiting your child at one of the two colleges in Northfield you will not be disappointed. The establishment is a beautiful victorian style, immaculately decorated, very clean, and comfortable. And the breakfasts are fantastic. There are only 3 rooms so book in... More
