We had a wonderful stay at The Magic Door while visiting our son at Carleton. Pamela was a terrific host. Our rooms were beautifully decorated and spotless. We loved all the extra touches like the chocolates and bottled water in the room, the wine & cheese upon arrival, homemade chocolate chip cookies, and Netflix. The breakfasts were delicious and we... This was a nice place to stay. The distance to Northfield allows you to get out of the Twin Cities but is relatively short. Our room was clean and the house had a warm, old-fashioned character. The location is a comfortable walk from downtown. The rooms were quiet,; we didn't have any noise from the other rooms where guests were... More

First of all, the innkeeper, Pam goes out of her way to make your visit warm and friendly and inviting at all times. My daughter and I were in town for a college visit to Carleton. Pam welcomed us upon arrival with a snack plate of fruit, cheese, crackers, etc, as well as an offer of wine/beer. She also had... More

We enjoyed our stay, just what we needed, such an easy and relaxing vacation from Minneapolis, where we live and everything is unending work, work work. We stayed there August 5-7, the room was immaculately clean, and the bed was so comfy. Breakfast was very, very good. We explored downtown Northfield and especially liked the Monarch jewelry store, the Northfield... More

The Magic Door is an excellent bed and breakfast. My fiancé and I spent two nights here in January and although it was -30 degrees outside we really enjoyed just being around the inn. The inn keeper made us a cheese plate and gave us a bottle of wine each day and we could even watch Netflix on the TV... More

The home itself is extraordinary, our room was incredibly spacious and comfortable, with an enormous bathroom, and breakfast was delicious. The location was ideal for our visit -- a short walk from Carleton College and the shops and restaurants of downtown Northfield. Pamela provided service that was simultaneously attentive and unintrusive, a combination that is difficult to deliver.

Stayed here on a High School reunion trip in a nearby town. So glad we did. Really enjoyed the classic accomodations. And the owner was so nice. She had a great breakfast and visited with us for a while. We would definitely stay here again.

I almost hate to give this place a 5 star review because I don't want it to get busy! We dropped our daughter at St. Olaf College and needed a room big enough for three and then two. Our room and bed were so homey, comfortable and cozy providing just the right nurturance for our goodbyes and sore feet after... More
