We travel a lot ...but the Archer House rented us the worst room ever for $130 last night ...Old double bed barely fit in room with a foot to spare on each side. Louvered shutter was bathroom door. The small old fashioned tub had a pipe shower but shower head had all inner parts removed and water just came out... More

We stayed 1 night in 309 which was a large 2 room, 1 bath accommodation. We booked very last minute on a Saturday night. Very impressed. It was so quiet in our rooms. The tavern on the lobby floor was quaint. Had live music. If u sit out on the bars deck, u can hear/see the band from the neighboring... More

I am writing this from the hotel room now. We stayed here the past two nights in the executive room which is one of the 2 bedroom suites. When I booked it I was taken back by how much it cost. I only did it because this hotel had the best reviews and I wanted to the 2 bedrooms since... More

This place is an old historic building that has seen better days. It has been updated in some cosmetic ways compared to what it was in its past life as the Stuart Hotel, but the photos suggest a lot more remodeling than has actually occurred. I am amazed it meets fire code--check out the wiring situation in the place. It... More

Room needed some tender loving care for maintenance items. Location is great for wondering around town, don't need a care to see most of downtown. Be sure to see the Jesse James Museum just 1 block away. Hotel has very good WIFI.

The hotel has undergone extensive renovations. Our room was clean, comfortable, nicely decorated and offered a view of the river directly behind the hotel. Northfield is a charming little town, trying valiantly to preserve the Main Street concept, and the Archer Inn is a major part of the downtown. The Indian food restaurant attached to the Inn is also very... More

I think the options in Northfield are limited, but the hotel is in dire need of an entire renovation and to make matters worse the staff was actually rather rude and incompetent. This is not a charming small town inn that could ever be a part of an upscale association (like Historic Inns of America). Northfield probably lacks a market... More

Well-preserved historical building in the heart of downtown. Some cute shops occupy the first floor and it is still styled in the time period of when it was built. Expect everything to smell like Indian food, though, as that type of restaurant is right next to the lobby.

We stopped at Chapati Restaurant (Indian Food). Very impressed with menu and waiter. Surprised to find out limited bar service even though they did have 2 Indian beer's. We tried one of Entree's for 2 with vegetables and meat. Medium spice yet very tasty could be more temps turn hotter. Beautiful night.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Archer House River Inn occupies more than a central location in Northfield. For generations of guests and locals, it IS Northfield - a geographical and architectural landmark, a host to history for nearly 140 years, and an exemplar of the town's spirit of hospitality. Built in the French Second Empire style, the four-story red brick building is grand in design, rich in character, and impressive in its amenities - which include two full-service restaurants, a coffee shop, riverside lounge, conference space and more. Yet with just 36 rooms, no two of which are identical, the inn is intimate in scale and unique in feel. The Archer House also boasts the city's best location, straddling the town's main thoroughfare and the Cannon River. Beyond its prominent setting and venerable history, something else makes the Archer House special: a spirit reflected by the staff's pride in upholding a 140-year legacy of caring for guests, and the ownership's loving stewardship of a property that embodies the heart and soul of Northfield. ... more   less
