My wife and I decided on a 1 night "staycation" to celebrate her birthday. We have stayed at many other local hotels and wanted to try W this time around. I got the highest level room (The WOW Suite) for our celebration. As anticipated, staff was very friendly and check in went well. Mannys (which we have been to many times) was fantastic as always. The room was pretty nice, not quite as nice as I expected, but certainly nothing to complain about. The problem(s) were with the room itself. The sheers did not work electrically, the wall buttons had an electrical problem. The engineer came up and basiclly said that I just needed to force them open (or closed). The toilet had issues and I had to open the tank and fiddle with it a few times before it started consistently working. The living room lights has a subtle "flicker" which was not a bulb issues but another electrical issue as all of them on the same circuit did the same thing. Perhaps the worse part of it was the temperature. It was a balmy 78 degrees in the room despite it having been set on "cool" and 72. The engineer came up and fiddled with it so it could be set at 62, said he had it working and it would take some time to cool down. It never cooled down. The doorway temp was reading 80 now, and the living room display was still at 78, FOR THE ENTIRE TIME. Needless to say, my wife and I found it very difficult to sleep. We tried to contact the "whatever whenever" line and got nothing but a consistent busy signal for 15 minutes (at about 10:30 pm) until we just picked up our cell and called the number on the website. At this point we asked for fans to be brought up. We were given 2 fans, each about 8-10 inches big, and neither had been cleaned in years. This gave mild relief, but my wife still got up in the middle of the night to use a cold compress to try to cool down to a reasonable sleeping temperature. Given the cost of the room, the level of the room, and that I asked for this to be fixed with no real solution, this was entirely unacceptable, not to mention the internal phone service to call for help was completely unavailable. Overall, Mannys restaurant is 5 stars and I will continue to go back to Mannys. The service people for the hotel were very friendly, but the multiple problems with the room that remained unsolved were unacceptable, and I would NOT get a room there again, nor would I advise anyone else to. Again, with this being the highest level room they had, I cannot imagine the problems with the lower level rooms

This hotel is such an iconic place. I a, so glad they turned this into a W hotel. Manny’s restaurant in the lobby is great, and Prohibition on the 17th floor is cool. The observatory is iconic too;, beautiful Art Deco spaces. It was fun to stay there.

We wanted a night out from the house (Covid 2020) but didn’t think we were ready for a trip. Was even leery about a hotel. But knew after 10 months it was time for at least one parents night out. This place was perfect. They take social distancing seriously, and our room was immaculately clean. In between checking in guests, the entire front desk was wiped off where guests could have had contact. We also were upgraded to a better city view at check-in. We ordered food in, and brought our own wine with. Checked out the museum twice (very neat). Open aired deck is a huge added bonus. Wish the speakeasy would have been open, but that’s no fault to the W. Ended our great stay with breakfast in bed from Keys, which is conveniently located below the hotel, and offers a 10% discount to guests in the hotel. It was a great stay and night. Recommend it as a must stay in Minneapolis - especially a staycation night out. Thanks W @ Foshay

The museum and observation desk in the 30th floor provides a panoramic view for downtown. Historic landmark hotel. I think this property should be branded under luxury collection or curio collection or autograph collection.. They did not provide breakfast in restaurant or credits towards food for Marriott platinum and above members . they just provide grab and go breakfast in lieu of welcome points. So choose welcome points. during pandemic , they only give welcome points. Parking is expensive. But there is a municipal parking across the street (next to hilton), which costs 15 usd for 24 hours.

I stayed here on a visit to Minnesota, because of the history of the building. The lobby is beautiful, but mostly dark and bar is still closed due to COVID. I arrived on Friday, checking out Sunday morning. My first issue was when I asked the desk manager whether parking at the IDS Center was best (it’s where my GPS sent me). She didn’t know what I was talking about, so I pointed towards the Center. In the end, she had no idea where I should park. I found that odd, given that people surely must drive to the hotel at some point. I learned the hard way that most buildings are locked on weekends. To retrieve my car from the parking ramp, I had to go through the Marquette Hotel. None of the other doors were open. There were no signs indicating that you couldn’t actually get into the building on the weekend, and the desk manager was no help. Next, there was a cold front that came through the week I was there. The manager told me the heat wasn’t going to be turned on for another couple of weeks. All extra linens, including blankets had been removed from the rooms. A small space heater was provided, but my room had windows on all sides (corner room) and was cold. I couldn’t understand why the hotel wouldn’t just get the engineer in to turn the heat on, or at least provide heavier blankets or a duvet. The summer weight blanket was still on the bed. I also found that the mask mandate wasn’t being enforced. While some guests were observing it, not everyone coming in were wearing masks. I didn’t hear any of the hotel staff asking/reminding people to do so. The one high point is that The Keys restaurant was open for breakfast and gives a discount for hotel guests. Oddly, I didn’t find this out until my second morning when their online ordering was down and I called to see if they were open. No one at the hotel told me about the discount and there wasn’t anything in the room explaining the discount. My first day, I’d done the online order, so no discount then. The observation deck was open, and I’d definitely recommend a stop to check out the skyline.
