We were a large family group of 32 people who stayed for the second time here. There are so many wonderful things about Shing Wako Resort such as the very friendly female owner, the close proximity of the cabins to the lake, the nice sandy beach area, and the crystal clear lake. I literally filled a clear water bottle up with lake water and it was complete clean water! The depth of the water is very shallow in that we could almost walk all the way out to the end of the dock in the water and still be touching, which is awesome! Shing Wako provides several adult and kid sized paddle boards, kayaks and life jackets. The cabins are in nice condition with top notch pots and pans, pretty much all utensils you need, etc.

Now for the not such a charm: the male owner! He was a miserable human being! Absolutely rude and lacking all adult communication skills. One of the nights the family reunion cabin became extremely hot. We couldn’t figure out how or why the air wasn’t working. The next morning the male owner told our group that he “pulled the air conditioner to make it stop because someone had opened a window upstairs!” So instead of knocking on the door and letting us know there was a window open, he just pulled the plug! What the heck!?! Who does something like that!?! His verbal communication on several other instances were enough to make me not want to return. If they want Shing Wako to continue being a great place, I’m thinking it’s time for him to hang up his boots and not be on the property when guests are around!

This is a nice resort property with so much potential to be great under a new owner. You could tell from the minute you checked in that ownership was very particular about their property and also about the property of the guests.
It contains beautiful cabins, nice grounds, a great beach, great common area, and one very rude owner. Sue was lovely; Marty may want to rethink his career choice.
We had a large group and while having a lovely time after 10pm we were laughing too loud around the fire, unfortunately. Marty, the owner showed up and while standing very close to us, yelled at us to “go to bed right now” over and over, with fists clenched and was shaking. Exactly the same as Kelsey E’s review. This was the first warning any of us that were around the fire had received. I actually felt somewhat threatened as he seemed he would hit someone, he was so angry, sadly I am not exaggerating. I asked him to calm down and he threatened to call the cops. This experience put a damper on the remainder of the trip, and wasn’t the only run-in with Marty throughout the weekend. There was one other family at the resort that night; we apologized to them if we were too loud, as we are a reasonable bunch. They kindly informed us they could not hear us, which we believe as members of our own group did not hear us form inside as well. We are absolutely fine being told we need to bring it indoors and feel terrible about being too loud, and had the owner taken a different approach and not come off as so aggressive it would not have been an issue. He seemed miserable the whole weekend, yelling at other guests about how they parked their trailers, the direction boats faced, and how much slack on the lines tying the boats to the dock, about the paddle boat parking, etc. At one point he turned around our friends boats without their consent to be touched. I agree with other reviews, Marty may want to hang up his boots as this doesn’t seem like the right business for him. Great resort if your group is quiet and goes to bed at 10pm. Larger, louder groups with children, this is not the place to spend your money!

Thank you for you review. I enjoyed seeing the fun your families were having playing ball, swimming, boating... I do want to mention the touching of your boats. Had Marty not turned them around for you, and a strong wind came up, they may have sunk. I explained that at check-in and the 2nd time I asked your group to turn your boats around. You may not have been aware of this, but we were alerted to the noise your group was making by a phone call around 11:45 pm. One of our guests was so disappointed in us for not providing the quiet relaxing atmosphere we say our resort has, they said they may never return. They did have their windows open so that may have made a difference. We will continue to attempt to provide a quiet time for our guests after 10 pm - 8 am. I want to take this opportunity to apologize to the rest of our guests if they think we fell short. Thank you again, Sue

We've been coming to this place for around 12 years. That says a lot. We stay in the newer cabins which are air conditioned and closer to the lake. Each cabin has a fire ring and a charcoal grill which we use a lot. There are boat lifts to rent and that's nice to keep your boat from getting beat up if the wind comes up. This is a smaller resort which is what we look for as a family get-away every summer. The hosts are awesome. They come around when needed and keep to themselves unless you need something. Over the years we've become friends with them so we don't mind them stopping to talk.

We stayed in Cabin 1 over the 4th of July (2020). Within an hour one small child and one adult were stung by bees coming out of the siding of our cabin. The second day we found mouse droppings on the counter and inside the pull out bed along with a dead June Bug. We left the third day after waking up with DOZENS of bed bug bites. The owner Marty did not act surprised and said bed bugs "are not a big deal" and a good wash of the sheets will get ride of them. When we asked to have our money returned for the unused days due to bed bugs we were told "there is nothing he can do about that" and still charged over $600. This clearly is not the first report of bed bugs as Marty did not seem shocked, try to deny it, or even enter the cabin to see the evidence. Terrible customer service. PLEASE do not stay here. I am confident that there will be no treatment for the bed bugs in Cabin 1.

My family and I stayed at this resort in one of the two bedroom cabins over Labor Day weekend for two nights. Our first impression of the cabin was that it was a shabby old fashioned classic cabin which was ideally what we were looking for because we wanted to get more of a "camping" feel. The resort was well kept and not busy even for over the holiday weekend to my surprise. The lake is nearby within walking distance for the cabins (none right on the lake) and is very sandy and shallow but clean. We rented a pontoon for one of the days we spent there and enjoyed riding around on the lake exploring the sights and having good conversation with our family.

On our second night and last night at the cabin we were listening to some quite tunes, making smores, and chatting around a campfire enjoying each other's company when at approximately 10:30pm one of the owners, Marty, aggressively approached my family telling us to shut the music off "right now, not 5 minutes from now, NOW". Being that this was our first warning about the noise we were taken by surprise at how the owner approached us so disrespectfully. As a respectful family we abided by this request started no conflict and turned the music off, however we proceeded to stay at our campfire having a conversation and making our smores. Not 10 minutes after the owners came back to our campfire and told us to shut it down now or he will poor water on our campfire and call the cops, or we could leave the property. At this time there was no music on it was just strictly us conversing.
My father in law tried to rationalize with the owners but they would not come to any understanding with us.
At this point of the night we felt so insulted that we decided to pack our things and leave.

The point I would like to get across to other travelers thinking about staying at this resort is don't make a peep and go to sleep by 10pm or the owners with abruptly shut you down even after paying a pretty penny to use the amenities and being completely compliant with the rules.

Hi Kelsey, Thank you for your review. It appears we were everything you were looking for in a resort, except our quiet time. Our standards have earned us a solid repeat business for families looking for a quality, quiet, relaxing, family vacation. Guests have shared with us how impressed they are that we choose to stand by our resort rules and have a few open cabins here and there, rather than make filling our resort our priority. We have chosen not to go into details of that night, as ours are quite different from yours. We think it is important to let you know we found ourselves apologizing to our other guests the next morning because your group had disrupted their vacations, both nights you stayed at our resort. We enjoy being in the resort business and have found our niche in relaxing, quiet family vacations. We try to communicate that as best we can. We are sorry we did not meet your vacation expectations as you deserve a vacation your way. We are just not a good fit for you. These situations are unpleasant for us as well and we spend time discussing how we can handle them better. Again, I thank you and Trip Advisor for this opportunity. Sue & Marty Paradeis Owners, Shing Wako Resort

My family and I were looking forward to spend a weekend on this resort if not this Summer maybe next year's. I called to see if theres was availibilty for the end of Aug early Aug, I knew it was close on time and that's why I called; Marty told me on very short words, "whatever online tells you is accurate just make the reservation online" well online there's only a "reservation inquiry option" you get an email saying that "THIS IS NOT A CONFIRMED RESERVATION INQUIRY" and that they will contact me shortly. No one contact me for 2 days, I called and Marty answered, he said that he hasn't had time to look at the emails and that he will take a look the next day that he doesn't have the time to look all day. I told him I understood but just wanted to know if that was all I needed to do, he again said he doesn't have the time and that he will get back to me after looking at the email. Few days passed and I called again, no answer so I left a message. Marty called back, I missed the call so he left me a message saying that he didn't hear my message but refer me to the website, he didn't acknowledge I had said I already submitted the online inquiry and wanted to double check if we had the reservation or not. No call after that. That was on 8/10 today 8/26 Marty calls asking if we are going to make it (on a voice mail), I called back saying I didn't think we had the reservation because no one confirmed, his response "are you coming or not?" I started saying well that's is part of the problem...and he hangout on me. My issue with this guy is the lack of communication, his rude and doesn't even apologized. Is obvious customer service is not his cup of tea, however you are in this business and that's very important. I'm seeing at some reviews and I can see I'm not the first one to complaint about him. I think the issue with him is the way he talks to people, I haven't stay at the resort and I won't even try anymore because of this, which is sad because it looks like a nice place. Sue, I didn't get to talk to you, sounds like you are reasonable person and I apologized for writing this however, he didn't do this to me just one time and that's not appropriate way to talk to prospect customer.

Our weekend was relaxing, and the resort is nicely kept up. Our 3 bedroom cabin was one of the new ones, and clean. With a fully stocked kitchen. It is “cabin” living- so be sure to bring your own bath towles, soaps, shampoos- etc. The cabin came with it’s own fire pit, picnic table and coal grill.

Great playground for kids. They have many kayaks, paddle boards, and paddle boats for their guests to use free of charge which was very nice. The dock is massive and gives plenty of room to move about and fish from. The beach is fantastic. Nice and sandy and shallow clean/clear waters make family swimming nice.

The female owner Sue is a very nice lady. The male owner isn’t much for small chat, and a bit rude with his comments, but tolerable.

Our visit to this resort was an extended family group, ranging in age from 8 to 81. We had 3 cabins, and had plenty of space for our family- the accommodations were great! We so enjoyed being in a family friendly place, that was peaceful and beautiful. The beach is great for kids, the water is very shallow for quite a way out. Nice sand beach for all to enjoy. Everything was so clean and neat, the cabins clean as can be, and well stocked with all the necessary dishes and pans. The hosts are very helpful and so nice, they make the stay very comfortable. There are many things to do in the area in easy driving distance, so there is something for everyone. We hope to be back again!

My large family needed a cabin that offered multiple sleeping and bedroom space. We rented one of the Reunion Cabins and loved it!!😀 The facilities where very well kept and very clean. You could tell the owners take pride in their establishment. They both where very helpful yet also gave us space. The water clarity was excellent alowing fun fishing for the kids. Lake Edwards was very quite during the week so we had some awesome fishing and boating without the distractions of other boaters. I would highly reccomend this resort to anyone looking for a clean, quite getaway!

I have nothing but praise for Shing Wako. We travelled there with 3 teens and an 11-year old. We stayed in one of the new cabins that is down at "lakefront", and it was very comfortable. There is an airconditioning unit in the kitchen which we used on a couple warm nights, but mostly the ceiling fans in the rooms kept things very comfortable.

The resort owners were very hospitable. The lake is very shallow entry. We brought a small sailboat and had a great time on the water. The lake was not too busy. Other families were bringing in sizeable fish catches. There are well marked dirt roads around the area making for great jogging.

There are two playgrounds, a basketball hoop, and a sand volleyball court. I wasn't sure I would get my kids out of the swings. We are going back!
