My family and I were looking forward to spend a weekend on this resort if not this Summer maybe next year's. I called to see if theres was availibilty for the end of Aug early Aug, I knew it was close on time and that's why I called; Marty told me on very short words, "whatever online tells you is accurate just make the reservation online" well online there's only a "reservation inquiry option" you get an email saying that "THIS IS NOT A CONFIRMED RESERVATION INQUIRY" and that they will contact me shortly. No one contact me for 2 days, I called and Marty answered, he said that he hasn't had time to look at the emails and that he will take a look the next day that he doesn't have the time to look all day. I told him I understood but just wanted to know if that was all I needed to do, he again said he doesn't have the time and that he will get back to me after looking at the email. Few days passed and I called again, no answer so I left a message. Marty called back, I missed the call so he left me a message saying that he didn't hear my message but refer me to the website, he didn't acknowledge I had said I already submitted the online inquiry and wanted to double check if we had the reservation or not. No call after that. That was on 8/10 today 8/26 Marty calls asking if we are going to make it (on a voice mail), I called back saying I didn't think we had the reservation because no one confirmed, his response "are you coming or not?" I started saying well that's is part of the problem...and he hangout on me. My issue with this guy is the lack of communication, his rude and doesn't even apologized. Is obvious customer service is not his cup of tea, however you are in this business and that's very important. I'm seeing at some reviews and I can see I'm not the first one to complaint about him. I think the issue with him is the way he talks to people, I haven't stay at the resort and I won't even try anymore because of this, which is sad because it looks like a nice place. Sue, I didn't get to talk to you, sounds like you are reasonable person and I apologized for writing this however, he didn't do this to me just one time and that's not appropriate way to talk to prospect customer.

We stayed in Cabin 1 over the 4th of July (2020). Within an hour one small child and one adult were stung by bees coming out of the siding of our cabin. The second day we found mouse droppings on the counter and inside the pull out bed along with a dead June Bug. We left the third day after waking up with DOZENS of bed bug bites. The owner Marty did not act surprised and said bed bugs "are not a big deal" and a good wash of the sheets will get ride of them. When we asked to have our money returned for the unused days due to bed bugs we were told "there is nothing he can do about that" and still charged over $600. This clearly is not the first report of bed bugs as Marty did not seem shocked, try to deny it, or even enter the cabin to see the evidence. Terrible customer service. PLEASE do not stay here. I am confident that there will be no treatment for the bed bugs in Cabin 1.

Our weekend was relaxing, and the resort is nicely kept up. Our 3 bedroom cabin was one of the new ones, and clean. With a fully stocked kitchen. It is “cabin” living- so be sure to bring your own bath towles, soaps, shampoos- etc. The cabin came with it’s own fire pit, picnic table and coal grill. Great playground for kids. They have many kayaks, paddle boards, and paddle boats for their guests to use free of charge which was very nice. The dock is massive and gives plenty of room to move about and fish from. The beach is fantastic. Nice and sandy and shallow clean/clear waters make family swimming nice. The female owner Sue is a very nice lady. The male owner isn’t much for small chat, and a bit rude with his comments, but tolerable.

This is a nice resort property with so much potential to be great under a new owner. You could tell from the minute you checked in that ownership was very particular about their property and also about the property of the guests. It contains beautiful cabins, nice grounds, a great beach, great common area, and one very rude owner. Sue was lovely; Marty may want to rethink his career choice. We had a large group and while having a lovely time after 10pm we were laughing too loud around the fire, unfortunately. Marty, the owner showed up and while standing very close to us, yelled at us to “go to bed right now” over and over, with fists clenched and was shaking. Exactly the same as Kelsey E’s review. This was the first warning any of us that were around the fire had received. I actually felt somewhat threatened as he seemed he would hit someone, he was so angry, sadly I am not exaggerating. I asked him to calm down and he threatened to call the cops. This experience put a damper on the remainder of the trip, and wasn’t the only run-in with Marty throughout the weekend. There was one other family at the resort that night; we apologized to them if we were too loud, as we are a reasonable bunch. They kindly informed us they could not hear us, which we believe as members of our own group did not hear us form inside as well. We are absolutely fine being told we need to bring it indoors and feel terrible about being too loud, and had the owner taken a different approach and not come off as so aggressive it would not have been an issue. He seemed miserable the whole weekend, yelling at other guests about how they parked their trailers, the direction boats faced, and how much slack on the lines tying the boats to the dock, about the paddle boat parking, etc. At one point he turned around our friends boats without their consent to be touched. I agree with other reviews, Marty may want to hang up his boots as this doesn’t seem like the right business for him. Great resort if your group is quiet and goes to bed at 10pm. Larger, louder groups with children, this is not the place to spend your money!

Thank you for you review. I enjoyed seeing the fun your families were having playing ball, swimming, boating... I do want to mention the touching of your boats. Had Marty not turned them around for you, and a strong wind came up, they may have sunk. I explained that at check-in and the 2nd time I asked your group to turn your boats around. You may not have been aware of this, but we were alerted to the noise your group was making by a phone call around 11:45 pm. One of our guests was so disappointed in us for not providing the quiet relaxing atmosphere we say our resort has, they said they may never return. They did have their windows open so that may have made a difference. We will continue to attempt to provide a quiet time for our guests after 10 pm - 8 am. I want to take this opportunity to apologize to the rest of our guests if they think we fell short. Thank you again, Sue

Stayed in a reunion cabin. Plenty of space. Clean. All that you need for a great week. Beach area was shallow and sandy and the kids (teens) loved it. Kayaks, paddleboards and canoes available we of good quality. Rented a pontoon for the week and it was perfect for cruising the lake at sunset and fishing. Didn't catch many fish but had fun trying. Almost all cabins were full, many with young families but it was always quiet and peaceful. Had a fire in the fire ring when the sun went down, ate a smore or two and headed inside before the mosquitos started biting. Owners very friendly and helpful. Close to lots of other activities. We went biking on the Paul Bunyan Trail and at the Cuyuna Mountain Bike courses as well as going to the turtle races in Nisswa. Lots of fun. Hope to go back to Shing Wako again.
