We enjoyed 3 nights at the Laven House, in the Douglas Rooms on second floor. It was perfect, so homey feeling, very private, everything neat and clean and orderly. The beds were very comfortable, bathroom was great. An added bonus was the use of the parlor on the main floor, enjoyed our complimentary coffee and later in the day a glass of wine. We plan to stay again. Thank you for your hospitality.

Nice place to stay, clean and the owners communication was top notch. I would stay here again. We had a quick stay but the place had lots of warmth and charm. We stayed during the week so no rating on the breakfast.

We needed to escape this long winter! Moulin Rouge was the perfect answer. This historic home has been beautifully restored with so much attention to detail. We chose to come during the week and thoroughly enjoyed the continental breakfast that was provided. My husband and I relaxed in front of the fireplace in the spacious dining room and played several games of cribbage. The room we booked was at the top of the spiral staircase and was wonderful. Clearly a lot of time and effort was put into making this B & B an amazing destination. We can't wait to go back!

Loved the cozy and comfortable stay here. Especially with the soft glow of Christmas lights and smell of fresh coffee and pastries! The history of the home is fun to learn about and we liked being close to downtown eateries. Would recommend for couples or families.

Great pre-holiday stay in the Moulin Rouge suite with college roomies! Excellent stay all the way around. Communication was detailed and timely, owners were available but not intrusive. Beautifully restored house with hundreds of historically accurate details. Easy walk to downtown, where we checked out our old stomping grounds. (Pagliai's Pizza and South Street Saloon are still going strong ! ) Took in the "must see" holiday light show at Sibley Park, then attended dance event up the hill at Mankato State. Returned "home" to our cozy rooms and comfy beds! (Will read heat adjustment information before retiring next time.) Saturday we woke up to hot coffee and a gourmet breakfast, then hit the local holiday events at the history museum, Betsy-Tacy houses, Hubbard House and Bells on Belgrade celebration in North Mankato. Also stopped by Wine Cave, Painted Silos (WOW) and Reconciliation Park. The dozens of art sculputures were fun to stumble acorss wherever we went. Will be back -- and will definitely return to Moulin Rouge for a cozy and enjoyable step back in time...

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend away. Our original weekend required last minute cancellation due to illness. The hosts graciously allowed us to reschedule. The World's Fair room was comfy, clean, and the private bath was great. Breakfast was tasty and filling. Maureen made herself available to address any questions we had. We would recommend this to anyone staying in Mankato.

My husband and I were in town and were looking really forward to our time at the Moulin Rouge. The building and accoutrement was beautiful. We enjoyed making herself coffee in the kitchen and going up to our beautiful room. We were invited to a four course breakfast over the phone which we signed up for at $22 each. Sunday morning we woke up bright and early excited for our breakfast went downstairs, and saw the beautiful breakfast table waiting for us. As I walked by I had mentioned what a beautiful breakfast table and was quickly escorted outside on a chilly morning to eat outside at a small table with my husband. There were multiple people mowing grass weed whacking and using a lawn blower so loud my husband and I couldn’t hear ourselves talk . It became clear that we were booted outside because they had booked a large group inside and I wish we would’ve known that we were going to be forced outside before we spent $44 on breakfast. I have been to many bed-and-breakfast, and I have never had this happen before and frankly I felt very hurt. I will not be going back to this place ever again because I thought they should’ve at least communicated to me that we would be sitting alone outside on a cold Morning. We were embarrassed and felt low class.

We are so sorry to hear you had this experience at breakfast. It was not our intention to make you feel bad and the timing on the porch was not good with the neighbors mowing the lawn. Moulin Rouge House does have several areas to eat inside and we would have happily moved you if we were advised of your discomfort. We try to accommodate everyone and meeting our guest expectations is very important. Your experience is noted and we will be sure to check in with our guests to give them the choice of eating outside or inside. - Kristin & Chris

I came here only for one night because I was staying in town for work. I stayed in the maids quarters. It was perfect for one person. I had my own area and it was super private and quiet. This was better than any hotel I have stayed at in Mankato. I will definitely stay here every time I come to Mankato!
