Great location right across the street from Lake Superior! Beautiful piece of property with several cabins behind the main lodge. Hiking trails of different lengths behind the lodge and Cascade Restaurant next door. Cascade Falls trail is worth a hike. We were on the 2nd floor with a view of the lake in a king room. Comfortable bed, but it took up most of the room which made it difficult to access the mini fridge. Dusty woodwork in the bathroom and the tub could be cleaner, but overall we’d stay here again. Had a nice dinner next door at the Cascade Restaurant, but were told that they wouldn’t be open for breakfast in the morning due to staffing issues. Fortunately we had some pastries with us as there doesn’t seem to any other close restaurants.

We stayed in a basecamp unit for 3 nights. Room was very clean which is appreciated. Nice linens, comfortable bed, plenty of soft towels. Staff was pleasant and helpful with suggestions. Grounds are well care for, and everything was in working order. We enjoyed that we had a deck and view of the grounds and lake in the distance. The room was very small which was ok. However, a luggage rack would have been nice. We could have used a small dining type table in the room instead of just end tables. A picnic table outside would have been nice too. We really enjoyed the restaurant being so close. We had breakfast and dinner- food was fresh, well prepared and priced accordingly. You place your order at a counter then they bring the food to you. Dining room atmosphere was the classic north wood lodge. We enjoyed our stay, but next time would like to try one of the larger cabins. The location of this resort is what it makes it ideal for hiking and exploring.

This is an older hotel/resort that has a lodge and cabins. I stayed in the lodge and it was really nice, had a piano and I almost envisioned someone playing it. I am older and when I lugged I my 1 small suitcase and a couple of bags and cooler bag, I was pleasantly surprised the the proprietor offered to help carry them for me!! I thinks it's been t least 30 years since someone offered to help with my bags!! What a pleasant/kind thing!! My room was up stairs in the corner and how cozy it was. The room was very clean and quiet. I stayed their 2 nights. It was handy to everything. Next years I will be back!

Another great North Shore hiking trip, based at Cascade Lodge. We have stayed at Cascade Lodge many times over the past 30 years, in different rooms and cabins and have loved it every time. This year we had one of the lodge rooms with a great Lake Superior view and we brought our friends who chose a cabin with a quiet location right on the creek. One of the best aspects of staying at the lodge is the on-site restaurant, with great pub food and local craft beers. It's an ideal casual place to enjoy after a day of hiking the many trails up and down the North Shore. The restaurant is in a separate building to the main lodge, which is ideal....it's only 30 seconds to walk to dinner, but the lodge rooms stay really quiet and peaceful. The owners and staff are always helpful and very friendly. Looking forward to our next visit!

Cozy cabins at a reasonable price. Great young staff. Right on the lake, near many trails. Cascade restaurant was great. Excellent breakfasts. We enjoyed the walleye dinner and the vegan selections. I recommend the local gin and tonic. Also check out Grand Marais 8 miles north of the lodge. The town is an arts and crafts locale with several excellent restaurants including the Angry Trout. However, the Lake and the Sawtooth mountains are the ever-looming beautiful realities of this unique part of the world.

Quiet lodge, clean room and recently updated. The room was so comfortable, with views of Lake Superior. Nice that room photos and description are online. Reservations and check-in were easy. We had a great breakfast at the restaurant next door, too. Friendly and helpful staff - highly recommend!

My husband and I booked the Robin's Nest cabin after a horrible couple of years of teaching. When we got to the cabin, there was a stream flowing in front of the steps creating a large patch of mud. No way to get into the cabin without sliding through it. The cabin was incredibly warm (the outdoors was about 50 degrees). The heat was turned off. Tried to open the windows which only stay open with a stick to hold them up and slam violently, so you risk breaking a hand. The bed was very uncomfortable, but since it was so hot, we couldn't sleep anyway. We informed management about the stream only to get a disinterested, "yeah, that happens every year'. The existing puddles provided a great mosquito breeding ground. Never again.

What a charming place! I stayed two nights in room 214 and could have stayed longer! Spotlessly clean and lovingly maintained. Lake Superior breezes all night long. Restaurant in walking distance. Comfy bed and great water pressure. Quiet and peaceful after a day on the trails.

My husband and I have stayed here three years in a row in room 104. We love it because we get our own entrance to our room, for the amazing view of the lake, the hot tub, fireplace, mini-fridge, central location on the north shore, and that it is nestled right in the middle of Cascade State Park. I've also stayed in the main lodge in the late '90's and have fond memories of that stay. The lodge is clean and well taken care of. Every year we notice upgrades in our room which tells me that they care. With COVID, they even added a HEPA filter to the room. As a historic lodge, there are always going to be quirks like not enough three-prong outlets. That is just a comment, not a complaint. We buy the firewood and restaurant vouchers with our reservation though I don't think there is any savings by pre-purchasing the breakfast vouchers. The wood was in our room when we got here, though, and they even added a paper bag of some newspapers which was a nice touch. The restaurant next door is a great perk. Food and drink is just a short walk over a romantic footbridge away. We love it here and plan on coming back each year as our tradition.

The good: nice location across the road from Lake Superior & next to the beautiful cascade river. The trails behind the property were lovely to walk through with the fall color. Our unit-Basecamp 5A had a nice front porch, comfortable bed, and plenty of hot water in the shower. The bad: The shower was not safe because the grab bar was completely missing from it’s holder and the surface of the tub was slick with no mat. The toilet paper was hiding behind the window drapes and the bathroom door wouldn’t stay shut. There was very little room by the sink for personal items. The unit was horribly hot with no way to turn down the heat in the area where we slept. We propped windows up using wooden dowels they provided and ran a noisy table fan all night. We left during the day and closed the windows for security reasons. When we returned, the thermometer on the wall said it was 85 degrees inside. The room was incredibly dark with dim lamps. The freezer was in such bad need of defrosting that it made the compartment so small we could hardly fit anything inside. One power strip had 5 appliances plugged into it. Didn’t appear to be a safe arrangement. The ugly: Our shower in 5A had black stuff growing along the calk on the back wall of the tub and a ring of rust around the very slow functioning drain. When we checked in the man made negative comments about us booking the stay through Expedia, saying if we had any problems or concerns to take it up with them. At checkout, we did report the missing shower grab bar and tub mat for the safety of future guests to the man at the reception desk. All and all, it was an unpleasant and overpriced stay. Photos are posted showing our issues and concerns.
