We stayed in Lanesboro to ride on the Root River Trail which is one of the best paved trails I have been on. The old mill is up to date with large modern rooms. We liked the ceiling fan and air conditioning and jacuzzi in our room, The Farmhouse. It is at the end of the Main Street so very quiet yet 1 block from many restaurants and stores. They offer a large bike storage locker. The local pastry for breakfast was a wonderful surprise. Excellent communication with owners to select a room and checkin. Parking beside the entrance.
This was our first time staying in Lanesboro, very cute, historical town right on the Root River! The location of this hotel is perfect, within walking distance of several delicious restaurants, a brewery across the street, as well as lots of shopping and hiking trails. Juniper’s was our favorite restaurant by far, be sure to check it out! The front porch area was a lovely place to sit and we all enjoyed the expansive gift shop. We stayed in the Egg Suite and Hen House with our two teenagers. The room had plenty of space for us and had a private entrance and out door seating area which were the best parts of staying in this room. Having two bathrooms was a plus. The room had no windows except the one on the door which is in an enclosed space, so there is basically no natural light in this room. Some people mind this and some don’t, just something to be aware of, kind of like sleeping in a cave. The room was also very damp and we noticed that the carpet was wet in some areas. We had to empty the dehumidifier at least once each day. The room was clean when we arrived and there was no housekeeping during our stay, but there was a phone number provided in case we needed anything. The continental breakfast was ok, enough to get you going in the morning. There were locally made pastries which were probably the best part, but not being a pastry person, I was left with hard-boiled eggs and supermarket-bought bread for toast. They also had apples, oranges, yogurt and juice. For the cost to stay at this place, I thought the breakfast could have been improved. I also agree with some of the other reviews that the 4% credit card fee policy should probably be retired. I have stayed at a lot of hotels around the country and abroad and have not seen this before. At $268/night for 3 nights plus tax, a $32 fee added for using a credit card seems unnecessary. Again, if the rates were lower, I would be a little more forgiving. The hosts were very friendly and our overall experience was very positive. I would stay here again and probably try a room in the upper part of the building.…
Richard the host is simply the best. Very professional, on top of things, and friendly. Stone Mill is very clean, rooms are very well appointed, and the location is perfect, very near to restaurants and the Root River Trail. Kudos to the owner and management for keeping this gem so terrific.
This place is a quaint, very cool, has tons of character. Super clean, great breakfast, comfortable beds.. A+++ stay with our first trip to Lanesboro. They also have locked storage for your bikes. Kind of cool. you get a key for the doors, key for your hotel room, and a key for the storage shed to keep your bikes back in the alley. I could not be happier with our stay. Such a neat place
Wonderful stay in the darling town of Lanesboro. Hosts were so helpful and the room was quiet and comfortable. The bike room was cute, loved the loft. Very glad for on site bike storage, as the Root River trail is not to be missed. We look forward to returning.
We just stayed here for the first time and loved it. People are very nice and helpful. Great location to everything right in town. Would highly recommend. Already booked a room for the fall colors this coming October.
My son and his family have vacationed in Lanesboro for a number of years because of the great bike trails and tubing. They told us we should join them sometime, so this past weekend did. We stayed at the Stone Mill and what a wonderful experience it was. My spouse and I have traveled all over the world and I don't know that we've ever had a better experience than at the Stone Mill. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, Rick to name just one, and our room had exquisite character. It was grand. Our granddaughter thought it was great. And many things are within walking distance. When we visit Lanesboro again this is where we will want to stay. Assuming we can get a room as they are constantly full.
We have stayed here 4 different times - love the uniqueness of the rooms and setting - always clean - seemed very safe in regards to the coronavirus - wished they could have had some kind of breakfast that would be safe - like something prepackaged etc...feel like you are still paying the price but not getting the breakfast part of the cost - we will stay here again - the location is awesome - love the front patio area!!! Employees were very friendly
I stayed in the Bicycle Suite at the Stone Mill Hotel in mid-October. The accommodations were excellent -- TV upstairs and down, great ventilation/climate control, small fridge and microwave, comfortable seating and bed. The hosts were helpful and available whenever I needed them. The hotel is only a block or so from the Root River Trail, and there was a nice large locked storage building for bikes, which I appreciated, since it protected my Catrike from the elements. The hotel has a lot of rustic charm, but be prepared to climb a lot of steps if you stay here. My room had a bicycle theme and was decorated with bike paraphernalia, which was appropriate and really cute. I stayed there on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights, and was surprised and dismayed to learn that the majority of restaurants in Lanesboro were closed on those nights, so one night I had to drive to Fountain to even get a sandwich for dinner. This was fine, and the meals I did get were excellent and close to the hotel. All in all, I really enjoyed my stay at the Stone Mill Hotel and hightly recommend it. I will not hesitate to return -- just not on those days of the week!…
