Great location right in downtown.Very friendly and helpful owners. Told us where to go to eat and things to see. Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was a bit tight quarters and oddly set up,but we managed! Good value for the stay.

At first this motel doesn’t look like much from the outside even a little dated but inside is clean and comfortable. The vintage knotty pine walls add to the charm. The motel owners are absolutely wonderful people, so down to earth, friendly and accommodating! They made our stay feel like a home away from home! I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thank you Edie and family for welcoming us to Ely and providing such excellence in hospitality!

My friend and I went to Ely for a day on June 29 and I got a good deal on this motel, so I didn't check it out much before we went there. I didn't care much about whether it was fancy or not since we would only stay one night. We stayed in room 10, which was kind of hidden in a back corner but I was happily surprised when we opened the door and saw how clean and well-kept the room was. Because this is not some huge motel chain, and since I had talked to one of the owners, Edie, when I made the reservation, she said she and her hubby had bought this motel not too long ago and were trying to fix it up/update it and had worked hard on that. I think their hard work paid off. Everything was sparkling clean and I loved the loon border wallpaper near the ceiling. The toilet is kind of low and it was hard to reach the toilet paper due to where it is located, but that was really my only let down. Otherwise, I have to say that I have the worst time sleeping on the beds at most motels, so I am always tired during vacations since the beds are so uncomfortable for me. But my bed on this day was SO comfortable that when we came in from a rainy day outside, it was kind of dark in the room and the bed was so comfortable that I kept dozing off on and off until it was time for bed. I met Edie's hubby when I turned the key in the next day and he was just as friendly and nice as his wife. I hope this couple has great success with their fairly new motel business since it is evident that they put a lot of thought into making this small motel a good and affordable place to stay for a night or two in Ely.

I made reservation for Memorial Day weekend for two bedroom adjoining. After a long, long day of travel, we arrived tired and ready to rest after a week at a Canadian outpost. They said they didn’t have our room because they didn’t get our request from Expedia until that day— intentionally wrong, since I had made the reservation directly on their website. We had to find another place to stay. Few option were available at that late hour on that busy weekend. You can not trust them to honor their reservations.

I had stayed in this hotel several years ago and had a room that was basic, but ok. This time I was assigned unit # 8 and it was the second worse room I had ever stayed in (you don't even want to hear about the first). It was so small, claustrophobia set in and could only be in to sleep as the car was not an option. Plus the fan is right over your head and really noisy - so it was turned off to attempt to sleep. If your going to the BWCA - and need to stay here, stay away from units 7,8,9 for sure

I made a reservation with them on their website. My confirmation was by email. When I arrived, they did not have my room reserved as requested and tried to blame Expedia, saying they only got my request that day. I had not used Expedia. They tried to give me an unsatisfactory room instead of the one I specifically and clearly reserved. We left, very tired, after a long long day of travel weariness to find other rooms elsewhere. Totally NOT dependable and not trustworthy.

I just returned from a few days of traveling through northeastern Minnesota. I spent one night in Motel Ely, and I'm glad I did. The room was comfortable, and the wood paneling gave an extra rustic touch. I would definitely stay there again. The new owner is very friendly and helpful with information on restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, and all the great outdoor stuff there is to do near town.

I have been occasionally staying at this family-operated motel for 40 years , and with updates and renovations, this motel shines. During my stay a couple of weeks ago, I found the motel super clean and homey. The heat kicked in big time when I walked in from -20 and turned up the thermostat. I parked my car right at my door for quick ins and outs. The water pressure in the shower was awesome. My room had very nice Northwoods decor , which constantly reminded me I was wayyyyyy up north. Bri , the new owner, was really friendly, and we had a nice and lengthy conversation. The motel is centrally located , with a Holiday gas station directly across the street for quick coffees and snacks. The price was great for such a comfortable stay!

Quaint place with VERY friendly owner (Edie, short for Edith). Shiny clean with no fake cleaning smells and all the necessities—coffee pot, microwave, refrigerator, and nice, cutely arranged towels. Room was small but sure met our need of a good nights sleep. Highly recommend!

I stayed here with a grandson for one night this summer. The motel was clean, the owners were friendly and helpful. Our room had vintage mint green bathroom fixtures and tile. I would definitely stay again.
