Jim & Joan are amazing hosts! They couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. The resort itself is well-maintained, located right on Farm Lake, cabins have been updated, not far from downtown Ely but remote and quiet also. We loved staying here and hope to again!

We stayed at the Moose Track Adventures for a week in August 2020. Our time at the resort could not have been better. There was an activity for everyone – kids loved fishing and swimming, we liked canoeing, hiking, and evenings right next to the fire pit (and beer). Joan and Jim were great hosts, very accommodating and supportive, even our demanding request for the motorboat rental for every other day was accommodated.
Our cabin (Wolf den) was recently remodeled and had everything you need after a long active day. It was literally 20 feet from the lake and had its own dock. The cabin had this beautiful wooden trim (look for the images on the website) and was very well maintained. Would love to go back right away. If you are looking for a relatively secluded place – it is right for you. On the other hand – if you want to visit the closest town Ely to pick some supplies or visit local attractions - – it just 10 min drive. Our Big Thanks to Jim and Joan and Two thumbs up for Moose Track Adventures!

Just spent 5 days and 4 nights paddling the BWCA with Moose Track Adventures. Can’t say enough good things about this Outfitter. From the very first phone call just to get information, to our farewells after our trip, this company was professional, experienced, easy to work with, and just a whole lot of fun! They guided us every step of the way, literally! From getting our permit from recreation.gov months ahead of the trip to the final paddle across Farm Lake, they made sure we did things right. They are a full service outfitter that covers it all. The equipment they use is top of the line. I never knew sleeping in a tent could be so comfortable! The canoes were stable even with all the gear packed in them. (And there was a lot of gear.) Food packs were heavy. Our personal packs also held our tent, sleeping pads and bags, chairs and personal items. Some were heavier than others. But it all fits. Our guide, Gavin, and his assistant, Claire, were amazing. From getting us across the water to locating the portages (which we couldn’t even see), to portaging the canoes and packs (yes, we carried packs too, but not canoes) to finding the campsites, cooking our meals and watching weather reports, they exceeded our expectations. They gathered firewood, cleaned the fish we caught for dinner, filtered our water, and made sure we were all safe. It was an amazing trip! I don’t even know how to describe it. The challenge, the emptiness of the area, the quietness, the great expanse that is the BWCA, are all part of what makes it an extraordinary adventure that will be remembered forever. The awesome travelling companions we had (there were 6 of us in our group) added to the fun and made it a better trip. And our two very special guides, Gavin and Claire - we could never have done it without them. They are two very special young adults who made the trip an adventure and brought us all home safely. If you have never been in the BWCA, don’t go it alone. This outfitter takes the worry out of the trip so you can just enjoy it!

We stayed in the Bald Eagle Cabin for a few nights while wondering around the area, looking at fall foliage. We found the cabin pretty and comfortable - however, if we stay here again, we'll bring seat cushions for the kitchen chairs (which are very interesting & cool, but, not all that comfortable for sitting all evening reading).
Joan was very nice, and she gave us suggestions & maps of hiking trails in the area - which was very appreciated.

We loved staying here!! The thing that impressed us the most was the cleanliness. The new AC kicks butt! We loved the staff, and they were super knowledgeable about everything to do around Ely: hikes, best fishing places, etc. Oh, the best part? Free canoe and fishing boat rentals! They have nicer canoes, too, for a reasonable price, and a pedal boat! Overall really good place, and we can’t wait to come back!

Actually visited July 2018 but couldn't choose that year for review. We camped in their small campground and kayak fished several lakes in the area. Loved it! Nice owners and staff, good facilities, easy to find. We will go back.

It has been a dream of mine to paddle the beautiful Minnesota Boundary Waters and that dream came true this year with the wonderful Moose Track Adventures. Every interaction, beginning with Joan was professional and yet warm and personal. We chose a trip that met our needs perfectly. It was a five day adventure and our guide was Gavin who was patient, helpful, and very knowledgeable. There is no way that we could have done this without a guide. The equipment that we were provided with was top notch. The canoe was light and top of the line. The tents and sleeping bags were comfortable. We are vegan and the company accommodated us. We experienced such beauty and calm completely immersed in nature. If paddling the boundary waters, look no further than Moose Track Adventures.

We had a great fishing trip booked through Joan at Moose Track Adventures. We stayed in a sparkling clean cabin [Bald Eagle] with a nice kitchen and air conditioning. There was both a fishing dock a few steps from the front door, and also a nice view of the lake from the picture window. The fishing with their very experienced and friendly guides was overall good and a little bit of everything. One epic great walleye trip, one good trip, and one below average day [based upon extremely high winds, but not unexpected in the far north]. Great customer service and recommended.

Claire gave us a great full-day guided canoe tour of the Boundary Waters. The route was perfect — very scenic (several different rivers and lakes), lots of wildlife (e.g., eagles, beavers, and even a baby loon), and short, interesting portages. We appreciated everyone, including Joan and Jim, accommodating us on such short notice, as we had called only the night before to ask about availability. The family seems very knowledgeable about the area and passionate about their clients. Thank you!

We just did our 2nd guided BWCA trip with Jim and Joan and it was just as fantastic as our first. We stayed one night in a cabin, then had a fully outfitted and guided trip. Once again they took care of all the logistics, so all my family had to do was pack clothes and enjoy the experience.

We didn’t think our first guide could be matched in terms of quality but we were wrong...Ron was everything you could ask for and more. His knowledge, personality and skills were a great fit with our family.

Thank you to Moose Track Adventures for making our family’s summer vacation so wonderful...especially during these challenging times.

Hi Pete - Sorry for the delay. I never saw your question until I logged into our tripadvisor business listing to update something. Yes, we welcome dogs at our resort - key things are 1. they can't be left in the cabins or on the grounds unattended (if you go out in a canoe/boat or into town - they need to go with you), pick up after your dog outside and not excessive barking. We charge $20 a night/dog in the 2 bedroom cabins. Please call 218-365-4106 with any other questions

I would say peak color was 1-1 1/2 weeks ago this year. We've had a warm October up until now. I would say Farm Lake is a mid-size lake. We are also across from Entry Point 31 (N Kawishiwi River) in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness which is great for a day fishing trip out of a canoe.
