Mark and Dawn are very friendly and welcoming to the Blue Heron; they create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our first B&B experience and we were not disappointed! Canoed and kayaked the Boundary Waters, enjoyed the relaxing decks. Our room was absolutely gorgeous and the view was beautiful. Breakfast was to die for!!!!

I traveled to Ely to visit my son in Ely and stayed in the So Forth Room for 5 nights. My room opened to the deck and I could see the lake. The inn is very peaceful and comfortable. Mark and Dawn are exceptionally hospitable and friendly. They also kindly welcomed my son and girlfriend at breakfast. The breakfasts were... More

Overall, My husband and I had a nice stay at this B&B. I feel it's important to make note of some things that bothered us so other travelers are aware of these things as well. I did not like the semiprivate doors on the bathrooms (all the rooms had these.) I never saw this type of door anywhere before other... More

ChicagoGal64, Thank you for your review. We would like to clarify a few things. The doors are not semi private meaning they are half doors. They are full doors that pull out and are shutter like. they are not a solid door like in a hotel but they still give you privacy. The blinking light is our fire system that... More

My husband and I recently stayed for three days at the Blue Heron. We stayed in the "So On" room which was extremely comfortable. The over all ambience of the Blue Heron is very comfortable rustic. The B&B has kayaks and canoes available for their guests to use. Breakfast is family style with all the guests sharing a table which... More

I love coming to the Blue Heron B&B, we have been there several times over the past few years and I always find it a great place to relax and resource myself. Mark and Dawn are great hosts and always help to make our stay memorable. The property is located on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and... More

Huge thanks to Mark and Dawn for going out of their way to accommodate the two members of our family who are vegan. The breakfasts were delicious, varied, and bountiful. We also appreciated the trail lunches they prepared for us. The B&B is located in a gorgeous spot at the end of a gravel road, right on the edge of... More

We had a great two day stay over Memorial Day weekend with Mark and Dawn at the Blue Heron. Everything you would want for such a vacation was there-comfortable room, great breakfast, gracious hosts. Right outside the door was a beautiful path through woods in the BWCA, and a short drive led to the highly recommended Kawishiwi Falls Trail. We... More

Kudos to the consummate host and hostess, Mark and Dawn. We've stayed here several times, and will be certain to return. Only complaint: the banana stuffed French toast is almost to good to eat... Lovely place, fabulous food, and great conversation. Always worth it.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We do appreciate the kind remarks. Its always nice to have you come visit. As far as the banana French toast goes (almost to good to eat) I will see what I can do. Thanks again. More

My boyfriend and I stayed in the room "So Forth" and it was very cozy. We didn't go on the deck because of the snow, but the views from the windows were breathtaking. Mark and Dawn are amazing hosts and very friendly. We stayed there three nights and only made it to one breakfast on-time. However, the last morning we... More

Much like in other positive reviews here, we had a wonderful experience during our weekend stay. My wife and I were able to use the searchable online schedule to find dates that were open in certain rooms over the whole Labor Day weekend even though no individual room was available for the whole time. This made it easy to customize... More
