One star is too generous for how inconsiderate Jane and Steve are as business owners. I prepaid $650 for one night in a chalet and a deposit for canoe outfitting for 5 people. This was going to be a surprise trip for my Dad's 70th birthday. Two unfortunate incidents occurred - one family member had a severe injury and will be in a wheel chair for months (this happened 2 weeks after booking and 4 months prior to our trip) and my Dad had a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest (two months prior to our trip). He's on life support. I requested for a refund after the first incident and was told maybe the others would like to enjoy the trip while the other stays home in a wheel chair. Then I emailed requesting a refund due to this trip being for my dad and explained that he was on life support and this is a difficult time for us. Jane was the MOST inconsiderate person I've ever dealt with. She replied with: Perhaps, you were not aware that the rest of your group could have gone on a trip since you and your mom were the group leader. The group numbers could've been adjusted. Then proceeded to state this is non-refundable and closed with this: As time passes, you may find that some in your family may wish to consider doing a canoe trip. This was absolutely heartless. I understand policies but there should be some flexibility when unforeseen emergencies occur. I can't imagine proceeding to go on a trip while my dad is in severe condition and on life support. Please do not support this business. God forbid something happens, they will NOT be accommodating.

There are singular places and experiences which are touchstones in our lives. River Point Resort and the beautiful forests and waterways around Ely Minnesota could easily become to be such a place for you, as they are for us. The resort has a variety of beautiful luxury cabins and condo style units scattered around an incredible scenic point on Birch Lake. We enjoy taking their top of the line kevlar canoes to different BWCA entry points for day trips. We return to the resort in the evening for fun around the firepit before retiring to a comfortable bed in a marvelous cabin. Steve and Jane have been the nicest hosts to all of their guests for many years. They are commited caretakers of the spectacular resort which was established by Steve's dad. James, Krista, Mitch, Matt and AJ are so nice and helpful with your needs around the resort and with advice for trips and activities. The resort has something for everyone, including a Marina with rental boats and free day use kayaks and canoes. There is a playground for the kids and an exceptional hiking trail through the woods. Laura and I spent our honeymoon here over two decades ago and now return each year to spend time with our friends in the amazing Northwoods resort they call home. Try a few days at River Point and you will leave relaxed and rejuvenated. When you leave you will soon be planning your next visit to to this peaceful place.

My wife and I spent a most enjoyable week at River Point Resort that only builds on the wonderful memories of the past 5 or 6 visits. Even in these uncertain times, Steve, Jane, James, Kirsten, and the entire staff out performed themselves. Everything was spotless and smiles were abound. I can’t speak for the other accommodations, but the Point cabin was once again, a home away from home.

My husband and I just returned from a trip to River Point, and we are already wishing we could go back. This was our third time to the resort, and we had a different but wonderful experience each time. The first time was when our two kids were small and we shared a large cabin with another family. The second time was when the kids were teenagers, and we stayed in a villa. The most recent visit was with just my husband and me, and we stayed in a chalet. All of these lodging choices were fantastic, and they met our needs at the time perfectly. The resort is a first-class operation. The grounds are beautifully manicured, and their location on Birch Lake couldn’t be more perfect. They have a playground and several beach areas, with lots of complimentary water equipment for you to use (paddleboats, SUP’s, sit in kayaks, etc). The area is so quiet and peaceful and a wonderful retreat from the craziness of city life these days. We spent a lot of time kayaking and canoeing and enjoying the absolute beauty and peacefulness of nature! Highly recommend this resort!!

My wife, our daughter, our granddaughter, grandson-in-law, and great granddaughter stayed a week in "Log Cabin" and "The Point." Everything was as advertised-- or better. Jane and Steve met our every need and went out of the way to be sure we all were happy. We will be returning.

Response from Quietriver, Owner at River Point Resort & Outfitting Co.

Thank you, Allen! So very pleased to read your lovely review and to know that everyone in your family was happy with the new Point Vacation Home Cabin, the Log Cabin, and the facility. The two lakefront choices were close enough to make gathering together perfect for all of you. It was great getting to know you and June and having such pleasant conversations. Thanks, too, for sharing your super cool idea of how to store your tackle when out in the boat allowing for ease in finding just the one you want without any of them getting tangled together! We look forward to seeing you all again!
