My three young children and I planned a fun trip to Duluth. I had visions of picnics and all-day hikes, but the weather had other ideas. While we experienced wind, rain, snow, and cold, the Spirit Mountain Fox Den Villa became the perfect home base. When we became cold, tired, or hungry, we'd return to the fireplace and warm up soup and play board games we found in the villa. We all also took advantage of the jacuzzi. My son slept on the pull-out couch in the living room, and thanks to a plush foam topper, it was the comfiest pull-out we've experienced. We found plenty of extra blankets and pillows around the villa, and even a vacuum for post-popcorn clean-up. (As an OCD mother, I appreciate being able to tidy up every day.) My kids also used the three-season porch as a club house for their stuffed animals they brought from home and found around the villa. During the day, I opened all the blinds, and it was just like being in a tree house: gorgeous woods view from our Fox Den. The staff was always helpful and friendly. Each day my kids went to the office to pick out a special craft to do in the car. We also checked out a couple kids DVDs, which they enjoyed watching stretched out on the pull-out couch by the fireplace. We used the kitchen for every meal, and saved so much money by not eating out. We stayed 3 nights in the Fox Den, and found the value to be superb. My children say they already miss it. It's only a ten minute drive down to Canal Park, and thanks to Duluth's road system, it's a breeze to get anywhere. (The Mountain Villas are right off of I-35, but since you're surrounded by nature, you feel wonderfully secluded.) My husband and I honeymooned here ten years ago, and I'm so glad I booked the Fox Den villa for a fun and educational trip with our kids. Never once did they ask for a pool or continental breakfast. They loved the accommodations as much as I did.…
Each villa is owned by different families, but we have always had a good experience in each unit. With the unit raised up, our dogs can look out the window over the forest. There are stairs to most units, so make sure you look at the pictures, or talk with someone in the office if stairs are an issue.
Outdated. Coverlets, carpets, scratchy towels, furniture feel old and from the 90’s. Carpets stained. IMO very overpriced for what you get. You are better off renting a house from Airbnb or VRBO. No dining room. Feels cramped to eat. Feels clean except carpet. Deck not swept. Does t look as good as pic. Dogs welcome which is nice. Clean bathrooms and kitchen. Nice fireplace. Quiet. Would be fine for a messy family where you don’t have to worry about keeping things ga clean.
Love the area, love the cabins, such an awesome rustic cabin experience, cannot wait to go again! This place is great for families, a girls weekend or a romantic one, I so loved it - it's a must try for anyone!
We absolutely love staying at The Mountain Villas. I have been vacationing here with my family since I was in middle school, now in my forties, we keep the tradition going! The staff at Mountain Villas are THE BEST! SHOUT Out to Heidi!!! The Views, are ah-mazing! Each Villas has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchenette, a deck and spectacular views! Nearby is a Holiday gas station to grab milk, eggs or coffee. It is a 20 minute drive down the hill to Canal Park, but the prices here are better than renting two hotel rooms in Canal Park!
