We stayed in July of 2020, during COVID. The staff all wore masks and most of the guests also had masks and were very courteous about social distancing. The hotel made modifications to make social distancing better. We opted for a room with a door so we could air out and enjoy our stay a little more. The pool was closed during our visit.

We stayed in a middle suite king lakeview on the 3rd floor for 2 nights. We loved the layout of this room. Beautiful huge tiled shower. Great size deck with great view. 2 chairs and table on the deck were really nice quality for a lodge/hotel. Easy access to the lakewalk from the lodge. Nice patio outside overlooking Lake Superior with many chairs and tables. Also, they will light the fire out on the patio upon request. We did not eat breakfast there but they offer free breakfast and seemed to have had a good system for distributing the food during Covid. Close to many restaurants and shops, Canal Park, Aerial Lift Bridge, and so much more. Great location!! There is construction being done on the Lake Walk but it did not bother us as we were there Saturday through Monday. Would come back and stay again!

Just returned from 2-nite stay. Have stayed here several times before. Staff was great. Room was very clean, as usual, but this time noticed hotel entrance needed cleaning (dirty rug), elevator dirty, and sofas in back room where it is so nice to sit and relax w/view of lake were dirty and worn. Property could definitely use some TLC. We were disappointed in our “city view” room which actually was “pool roof” view. That room should NOT be the same rate as regular “city view.” Also disappointed to have no hot water during part of our stay (no shower!) though it was not fault of hotel - problem w/steam plant. Overall, our stay was much less enjoyable this time and we are not sure we will return when there are other comparable hotels on Canal Park.

As a frequent traveler for my job I spend up to 100 nights a year in hotels across much of the country. Most are very comfortable and meet my needs and that's pretty much the extent of my opinion. My opinion of Canal Park Lodge is very different. My wife and I have been staying here since soon after the property opened. It is without question my favorite hotel to stay in....period. The staff is nothing short of incredible! We lodge here 2-3 times per year for week long stretches. You see the same faces year after year. Friendly welcoming faces that set the tone for your stay. The rooms are ALWAYS spotless, comfortable and well cared for. The common areas are roomy, nicely decorated, and always clean. If you are looking at staying in Duluth, do yourself a favor and give CPL a try. I can tell you when I walk through the doors I feel at home, relaxed, and more than welcome and I'm sure you will have the same experience. Ask for Becky:) She's simply AMAZING!!!! God Bless and stay safe!
