Mary and Brian have one of the best Bed and Breakfasts we have ever enjoyed. We travel A Lot and have lived abroad in three major cities. We have had extraordinary experiences. We would put Solglimt at the top of our list. First, we were the only guests on a cold weeknight and they offered us a wonderful upgrade. The Aerial Bridge room looked out from a big picture window onto Lake Superior and the sunrise was spectacular (probably not their doing, but still...:). The residence is spacious and airy and beautifully decorated. Guests are welcome all over and the nooks and crannies are full of delights (like homemade cookies and choc kisses). The breakfast was delicious and filling. Scones and fresh salads and little omelets with bacon. We had a coffee service in our lovely room before breakfast that was relaxing and cozy. We did not eat lunch either day and were not starving by dinner (but, of course, we could walk into Canal Park in 10minutes and we had come to sample Duluth!) This B&B is one we will eagerly visit again. We love the Lake and the access is perfect - unlike any other experience we have had in Duluth. The hosts are lovely, the food is great, the amenities luxurious....you will not be disappointed.

What an amazing few days at this wonderful B&B. Due to our late reservations we had to switch rooms to accommodate the dates we wanted to stay. They made this so easy. We packed our bags and went on our way. They moved everything from one room to the other when the new room was available. We stayed in the Lake Superior Suite the first night. Absolutely beautiful room with a king bed and a very large bathroom with double sinks and a steam shower. A sitting area overlooks the back area and the lake. It was so relaxing. The second and third nights we stayed in the Oscar Nelson Suite which faces the bay area and has a large private balcony. This suite is smaller, but still has a very nice sitting area with a gas fireplace. While the rooms are wonderful, what really makes this place is the rest of the house and the hosts. There are many sitting areas with wonderful views throughout. Mary and Brian are so friendly and accommodating. We felt right at home with them. We showed up early, hoping to just leave our vehicle in the driveway while we wandered the area. Even though we were 3 hours early, Mary immediately welcomed us in. There is a walkway down to the lake and many comfortable sitting areas outside, along with many relaxing gardens and a coy pond. Breakfast each morning was amazing. They ask food preferences when reservations are made and they work hard to accommodate those. It’s a three-course meal with hot beverages and juices. Because of CoVid many changes have been implemented, but they have done a wonderful job of maintaining the comfortable feel of a B&B.

Wow! Unlike any B&B we have stay. You will love it too... From the time we walked in, the love that Brian and Mary have put into their heavenly B&B was evident - beautiful care to preserve the history of the home, the artwork and decor and its location on Lake Superior were amazing. We were a little sad that the garden was trying to come to life since they had snow only a few weeks ago (it's an excuse to return when it is in full bloom). I imagine that it makes it even more magical. My wife and I felt like we were in a different world while staying the 3 nightly at Solglimt. Check in process was great with Mary showing us around the Inn and the details of our room (Point Park suite). Wonderful hospitality. Our room (and the entire B&B was spotless). There is an Amazon echo in the room to listen to music, get the weather report, etc. The tub is air jetted and you can control the intensity of the bubbles which was so relaxing. The shower was great for me being 6'4" as it had a tall extension so there was no bending down - good hot water and pressure. Breakfast was equally beautiful and delicious - 3 courses and very filling. Brian was a wonderful breakfast host. Fresh local ingredients. We looked forward to meeting the other couples each morning. Mary was able to provide an earlier breakfast our last morning so that we could get to our boat tour on time. The view from our suite of the gardens and the Lake was beautiful. There was 2 chairs in the room for watching the sailboats race (Wednesday evenings all summer), oar boats or jet skis). There was many seating areas in the many different public spaces at the Inn. We especially liked the new roof top deck. Gave us nearly a 360 degree view of Lake Superior, the bridge, and the harbor. We had a wonderful time and are already planning on when we can return. Thank you to Brian and Mary for the great hospitality and all the hours of love and sweat you have poured into the B&B. It certainly shows.
