We stayed in the Victorian Suite. The room is a good size for the price. The shower and toilet are in a space which looks like it used to be a closet. The sink is in the room. The toilet seat slides when you sit on it. The mattress and pillows are both hard.
The Continental breakfast was well supplied with a variety of cold packaged cereals and instant oatmeal, fruit (banana, mandarin oranges, blueberries, grapes), orange juice, milk, danish pastry. There was also coffee and tea. There was no decaf tea or cocoa. There were cloth napkins and tablecloths and glass dishes and silverware (not plastic).
The other 2 rooms were open so we took a peek. The whirlpool in the grand suite is in the bedroom and the bathroom is small but does nave a shower. The Casablanca Suite has a large bathroom.
The home is clean and well-kept inside but the outside needs a lot of work.

My wife and I had an opportunity for a last min get away and found this gem. Loved the historic charm, the entire house is furnished with antiques and furniture that makes it feel like staying in a museum. Room was very nice with our own bathroom, bed was very comfortable. Location was great, only a couple blocks from Third Street brewery and very quiet. House keeper was very friendly. Wish we could have stayed another night.

We stayed here overnight on our way to a wedding in North Dakota. Beautiful house and room. We stayed during the week so it was just a serve yourself continental breakfast, but there were various pastries and fresh fruit available and we were very happy with the food. They also had some snacks and soda available when we arrived. We stayed in the Casablanca Suite which was very nice, with a large bathroom with tub. We would stay here again if we are in the area. Since we arrived later in the evening, they emailed the code for the core before we arrived so was able to do contactless check in and check out.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Check-in was easy and communication with the host was great. We had everything we needed. Continental breakfast and snacks were provided. A refrigerator and coffee were available in the guest lounge on the 2nd floor as well. The shared spaces were very quaint and comfortable. The hot tub in our room was really nice and the bed was very comfortable. Would recommend!

The Casa Blanca room was great. Very comfortable bed and fun decor. Large bathroom. Loved the bathtub (huge). We visited midweek, so there was no cooked breakfast, but eggs, coffee, fruit, and cereal were available. There needs to be some written instructions for using the TV.

Close walking distance to Eating, towns little Corner Store. We walked everywhere that weekend.

Great place to Unwind and Relax. Breakfast Selection in Morning, Coffee/ Tea/ Hot Cocoa, Cozy Beds, Warm Shower.

If Quietness is what want like we did and this was amazing, from our daily life with our noisy kids.

Owner was very helpful to questions had. We plan on staying here again!

Information for arrival and after arrival was sparse. It seems like they are still practicing Covid procedures but it felt cold and off putting. The room itself was nice enough although a little musty. Only 1 shade sort of worked and hot water never arrived. (No 1 else could get warm water for showers either). Old, powdered creamer and few choices and few packets of sugar options didn't help the coffee - none of which was available in the room. New towels etc were offered "down the hall in a closet." Although a statewide famous bakery was located 1 block away, the cold breakfast pastries were lacking.
Not impressed and wouldn't recommend. Seemed pricey for experience

Response from The Pillar Inn, General Manager at The Pillar Inn
Responded Jan 2, 2025
Thank you for your review! I apologize for the delay in responding but just realized I needed to set up a separate account in Trip Advisor to be able to respond. We appreciate every review but one thing we ask is that if there is a problem, please contact us during your stay so we can help resolve the issue. We are very available to help and if there was a problem with the hot water, it's an easy fix. Yes, we do self check in. Not because of covid, but because previously we would ask for a check in time from guests and rarely was it given. And when it was, rarely was it adhered to. So, we would wait and wait and no one would show up or at least advise of their updated arrival. We send a text with door codes the morning of your stay and are always available to answer questions via text or phone and will most definitely come to meet you if you prefer. We have a "hospitality room" where there is a coffee maker, as well as a coffee maker in the dining room. We usually provide Minnesota based Caribou coffee and I'm sorry if that isn't to your liking. Other choices are usually offered as well as tea, hot chocolate and apple cider (when available). There isn't a lot of room for coffee makers and supplies in each room and they can make a big mess as well, thus their centralized locations. We have guests who love the self service check in and breakfast and guests who don't. We try our best to make everyone happy and we also learn from comments and reviews as to how we can improve. But always keep in mind there are reasons why we do things a certain way, whether it's from past experiences, local operating license rules, guest suggestions, etc. Thank you.

I was really disappointed with our stay at the Pillar Inn. It’s the worst stay I have had in a B & B. First of all, no one was in the house the whole time we were there. No welcome, no goodbye, no hot breakfast (just some rolls, granola bars and cold cereal) the food was sitting there when we arrived. It smelled so musty all over. It was almost scary to be in this big old musty house-just the 2 of us!! I will say one positive-our room was clean and there was a good lock on the door. And, it was close to town! I just wish someone could have welcomed us!!

Response from The Pillar Inn, General Manager at The Pillar Inn
Responded Jan 2, 2025
Hello and thank you for your review! I apologize for the delay in responding but just realized I had to create a separate account in order to respond! We are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. I realize we do things differently with self check in and continental breakfast. Many guests prefer the independent stay, some don't. Some really love having the house to themselves! And of course, some don't. We do have onsite apartments that are privately rented, though they aren't always home, and they are not innkeepers. We did stop serving hot breakfast for a few reasons. One is that after covid, fewer people were interested in a hot breakfast and sharing that breakfast with strangers. We would prepare the breakfast and guests wouldn't show up or bother to let us know they wouldn't be joining us. When there are just two guests to prepare breakfast for, and you plan the menu, purchase the food, take the time to cook, and they don't show up, that is very frustrating and a waste of food . Second, it's not easy to find help on weekends to prepare breakfast if we are unable to do so ourselves. In addition, our local food licensing changed the rules as to what we need to do to provide a hot breakfast, thus the switch to continental. We hope to do hot breakfasts again at some point. And yes, old houses can have musty smells. We try to keep it as fresh as possible without overdoing the scents, as we also get requests for non-scented rooms, sheets, cleaning products, etc. We try to make everyone happy, but of course, that doesn't always happen. We do appreciate your feedback and will work on options for greeting/meeting guests in person.

We were very happy with our accomodations at the Pillar Inn in Cold Spring. This was our 3rd visit with them and we are planning to return. The ambience is great. Originally we went there for our wedding night 25 years ago. We returned for our 20th Anniversary and now our 25th Anniversary. The meals have all been wonderful and this time we had a diet change and they were accommodating. The owner and staff were very friendly and pleasant. We would highly recommend them.
