Black Bear has great winter hotel rates, especially compared to the hotels nearby. I'm not much for gambling in their casino...I like the "old school" machines and they have all the new electronic ones. The buffet is a good size, has a variety of items, but can get very crowded and noisy.

We were in a suite with 2 queens and a hide-a-bed. It had only one small sink and a bathroom so small you had to back up next to the toilet to open or close the door. The drain in the tub/shower must have been plugged as it took forever to drain. The room and halls were very shopworn. We... More

My son and I stayed here for one night in the old side, not the tower. The place is clean, but it shows signs of wear. I kept getting woke up by these odors of smoke. The room was non smoking. I couldn't for the life of me figure out where it was coming from. It was like the smell... More

Three couples stayed one night to be close to Duluth for the Tall Ships arrival. Rooms were ready when we arrived and they put us in rooms close together. We went to the Buffet for dinner. It was SHRIMP feast night and was crowded. They did a good job of keeping the food refreshed. Our server, Julie, was excellent. The... More

We were in Duluth for one of their big festivals, the parade of sails, aka tall ships. We arrived on a bus late due to vehicle troubles, there were no comps, and the only place to eat was the deli which was so very slow. Casino was full they had 3 people running the snack bar. Very, very SMOKY!

Very basic room, nothing exciting at all. Buffet was a 4 hour wait on a Thursday evening. Steakhouse was an hour and a half wait just to be seated (when there were tables sitting empty). Deli took an hour to get our order. Wifi is extremely slow. Pool is very loud.

Our room had a king bed. Honestly the room looked like it had been robbed. Lots of space that was totally empty Empty walls, the TV was too small for the room, just felt odd. WE had a non-smoking room but not sure if that was the real case. Also checking in this time and the time we stayed a... More

The only thing that kept this from being awarded an "excellent" rating from me was the fact that our room was poolside and around two a.m. a bunch of people were in the pool area shouting and cursing. We had to telephone the front desk to ask that they clear the pool area of these rowdy patrons. The hotel service... More

We had a nonsmoking pool view room on the 3rd floor. It was absolutely disgusting. I would never recommend staying here. The carpet was dirty and stained and there were crumbs on the floor from the previous guests so I don't even think they vacuumed the room. The couch was so gross that I wouldn't even sit on it. The... More
