So checked in with hotel security because front desk staff gets off at 5pm. Security give the wrong price, then called the room back for the balance ok. No problem. Ordered from the restaurant. Now the morning of check out someone came knocking (like the police) at 8:20am continuously after we answered the 3rd time, this man asked "yes what time you'll checking out" really?. So I called the front desk wondering if they had moved check out time to 8am or if the phone wasn't working for them to call and ask rather than sending someone who looks like the ground man to Bam on the door. Just destroyed my entire stay.
Recognising the island is recovering from covid so some sympathy. No front desk after 4pm No food after 5pm No bottled water in room Toilet did not work, the security staff kindly moved us to a room with a working toilet but broken shower. Damp sheets 4 star price for a 1 star experience $855 on rhe web $1277 after the Bahamian tax scalping. Really not yet ready and no warning, i feel robbed and cheated after intention to support a local business.
The first night we did not have any running water. Our tv remote does not work. The second day $200 was stolen from our room and the third night a man as caught breaking into a room in our building, he assaulted a woman, and was chased off the property by guests. It unfortunate this place has taken a very bad turn for the worse.
Great marina (all the services and trimmings) and even better staff, so friendly and helpful! Easy access in and out of marina. Very friendly boating community to help if needed and share fishing stories. Good dockside locals selling edible treasures from the sea, stone crab claws, lobster and conch salads. Highly recommend, we will be going back soon!
This is my 3rd trip to OBB in 10 years. Knowing there had been a hurricane on the East End and some parts of Freeport, plus high winds at OBB, I expected there to be some issues at OBB 7 months later. However, it wasn't the property which was a disappointment so much as the amenities and quality we had paid full price for. There were 6 very rusted beach chairs available for the entire resort and apparently no effort to replace them with new ones. (First come, first served and no other chairs available.) The 5 adult bicycles were rusted, broken, not-usable. We did find two damaged ones which we were able to ride, rode them to our unit and within 30 minutes they disappeared. I later saw staff riding them out the gate on their way home. I notified the office but we were unable to get those bicycles back. We snorkeled in the ocean and it, too, had changed a lot. We saw no fish of any size, there is a huge amount of sea grass covering the ocean floor with sea urchins everywhere hidden in the grass. Absolutely do not swim there unless you are wearing something protective on your feet. The pool area had piles of sand around it yet there were staff trimming bushes nearby who never seemed to bother with sweeping the sand away from the pool. Our room had serious black mold on the ceiling in the corner of the entry. Who knows how much mold was actually IN the ceiling and walls that we could not see. If the unit was closed up and air conditioner on, it smelled very musty. We kept windows and doors open as much as possible over our 5 night stay. The "gift shop" was closed due to being "off season," so no snacks, etc could be purchased without driving to the nearest convenience store about 3 miles away. When I made the reservation, I was not told it was "off season" and we were charged the full price. Had I known it was "off season," I would have gone another time or to another place. It's interesting that for OBB it was "off season," yet at Nassau things were still in full swing at the exact same time. The property itself is still very beautiful with the ocean only about 30 yards away from some of the units. The office staff and people in the pool bar/grill,as well as the security people, are all very friendly and accommodating. The wait staff in the marina restaurant were friendly also. I would rate this resort, at this point, on the level of a 2 1/2 star. Unless some money is pumped into the amenities advertised, the sea grass/urchins cleared out, and the mold issues in the rooms addressed, I fear OBB will not survive...the marina area will survive but not the resort area. I love this place and am sad to see it in this shape. I will not return here in the future unless serious funds are invested in bringing it back to a higher standard for the money paid. On a side note, I recommend renting a car at the airport to use during your stay. The cost of the car is offset by the convenience of having it as well as the high charges from the resort to transport you to/from airport as well as to Freeport. Freeport is about a 40-45 min drive (26 miles) and you can get groceries, snacks, etc. to have in the units in the small kitchenettes. Also, if you tire of the Marina restaurant, you can return to Freeport for dinner, shopping and entertainment at Port Lucaya. (Breakfast is in the Marina restaurant until a little after 9, and dinner is served there. For lunch the only option is the bar/grill area at the pool. For a multi-day stay, these become less appealing.) I'm aware this is a very long review but want anyone considering going there to know exactly the situation we faced on our stay Feb. 22-27, 2020.…
