Unit was not really what we expected and kind of run down. 1st of all we found that most of the remotes in the unit had no batteries int them. As we got settled into the unit we found that it was really missing allot of items you would expect in a vacation rental.
Scrubbing pads for dishes
Salt and Pepper
Dishwasher soap
Extra dish towels / wash cloths
some type of disinfectant for counter tops
Having stayed at other rentals down the road or other ski resorts this is a common thing found in the units and something that you don't expect to have to run to Biwabik to buy.

On a recent two night stay at the Villas for a golf outing with another couple, we rented a two bedroom/two bath unit at the Villas. The unit, 704, was very clean and looked like it may have an updated interior within the last year or two because walls did not have typical marks in bedrooms and bath. Also the pots we used looked to be relatively new. It is a very convenient location to the two golf courses on a nice setting, although the exteriors of the buildings we stayed in were old and tired looking and needed some work. We found the beds and pillows very soft and had some aches in the morning as a result. Overall, we had a good experience and maybe the soft beds and pillows are to the liking of the owners.

This beautiful resort is an ideal getaway from the big city. The peaceful surroundings, natural setting, encouraged relaxation and unwinding. Plenty of onsite activities as well as opportunities near by.

Booked online and on arrival they stated that they would not provide pillows or blankets (covid). They said that it was in an email (that clearly I didn’t see). Then they made me pay $120 cancellation fee. Who in their right might would bring blankets and pillows to a hotel. Also, where the heck would you get such a thing in some town called Bibawik MN? Clearly I plan on disputing the charge. The worst part is that the customer service is horrible and these people are all too happy to try and take a cancellation fee from you. Do yourself a favor and do business with better people.

The good: Cute little cabin, has tv's & cable in loft and L/R. Nice quiet lake setting with sandy beach and docks. Full kitchen with laundry. Towels provided. Adequate and close parking to cabins.

The bad: I asked for A/C and got a single wall unit in L/R of unit #104, not central air so it was hot in the bedrooms and loft at night. Upstairs bathroom has leak so ceiling in lower bathroom is tore apart, but not fixed and smelled like mold. Pull out couch was full of chips, food, and grossness on mattress. Many light bulbs were missing or burnt out. Bedroom door knob locked but door could be pushed open. Watercraft required 24 hr notice, even though 15 units were unused when I inquired and could not be used after 4pm. Pool and hot tub closed at 8pm.

The units here are very nice. However the amenities were not what were advertised. The pool was closed at 6 o'clock which was way too early.. The canoes kayaks and paddle boats were not accessible as advertised . The hot tub was not working. The villas are separate from Giants Ridge which was not made clear to us before arrival. You do not have use of the recreation center at giant's ridge. The climbing wall is only open on weekends. Bugs outside were awful, they apparently don't spray, bring lots of bug spray. The staff's answer to all concerns concerns was they are shorthanded because of Covid.

We love going here and grab a week from RCI when they become available. It has some of the best skiing in MN and two gem golf courses come the summer months. Located right in Giants Ridge, I would recommend everyone to go here once...

Came to golf only to find one of the two courses closed for the season right after we arrived and no one informed us, so we missed our chance to golf The Legend. Did golf The Quarry. Beautiful course. Golf staff were very friendly. Lots of hiking/biking and ATV trails. Unit was spacious, clean and well equipped. Arrived at 6pm to check in (paperwork said check in was 4 pm). We arrived at 6pm only to just catch the staff leaving us a note as we were arriving late! They closed the front check in at 6pm! Hot tub was not working. As it was quite cool, it would have been nice to use. Did golf at a couple smaller courses nearby, which was nice. Overall, we enjoyed our trip.

I have stayed at the Villa's at Giants Ridge several times as I have an Alpine Ski Racer. Typically when there is a large race, skiers and parents often stay at the Villa's for the convenience. Ski racers spend a lot of time standing in the cold and it is important for them to be able to get inside and warmed up at somepoint during the day. Three years ago the Villa's allowoed us a late check out to accommodate the high school athlete needs, we were out by 1pm (Normal check out is at 10am). Last year we once again were allowed a late check out with a $50.00 late check out fee, no problem, reasonable, we were out by 1pm. This year after pleading our case over several phone calls and emails that were not responded too, the best offer the Villa's could do is charge us an additinal $200.00 for a late check out fee. We offered once again to pay the reasonable $50.00 fee. Better an extra $50.00 then none and also a showing of good customer service and good will towords others. Too no avail, we were denied. I would like to add that we were checking out on a TUESDAY!!! The Villa's were NOT full.

The cleanliness of the Villa was horrible, dirty dishes in the cupboards, a disgusting mystery item found under a chair when moved. A kitchen counter top that was sticky when we arrived, etc. Oh, we also asked where we could get ice....they said "in the town of Biwabik" (about 10-15 minutes away). Really a resort with no ice machine, or even the ability to purchase ice!!

If you happen to be an owner of a Villa at GR, I think you should really find out how the management company is handling your property.

This is such a beautiful location, too bad we are not seeing the MInnesota nice!

Response from Dee E, Front Office Manager at Villas at Giants Ridge
Responded Apr 30, 2014
Thank you very much for taking the time to give us your feedback. It becomes a crazy time here around the high school ski races and meets. Granting late check outs becomes a slippery slope for us due to the high volume of people who ask for them, also. We do have a 2 night minimum stay, which was waived for these teams, with the understanding that check out time is 10am. It is very difficult for our housekeeping team to turn over our resort for these teams, many of whom ask for early check in. It is very possible that we had someone coming in for the particular unit, too, as we many times have owners or their guests booked in. We apologize for your experience, this is not the impression we like to leave with someone. Thank you again for your feedback.

We went to Giants Ridge with another couple for a ski weekend. The reason I say it's compilcated is for reasons of the 2 management companies for the lodge ans villas. If you stay at the Villas you are allowed to use the ammenities of the lodge BUT if you book a villa through the lodge you are not allowes to use the wifi of the villas. Also if your villa has an issue you tell the lodge not the villa office. We found out later that booking through the villas is less expensive then booking through the lodge. Before booking anything we were trying to find info on the website which didn't seem so bad until we had questions and they were transfering our call with no help from anyone on the other end. Also, there are no discounts for purchasing multiple day ski passes. The Villa was nice, 2 bdrms (1 was like an apt and the adjoining had a kitchenette and prvt entry), both had whirlpool tubs, the larger had a washer and dryer. Our fireplace had not been cleaned ever so there was soot all over the glass and if you turned it on the gas flame chased up the glass (we decided it'd be safer not to run it). Our futon which was also a couch was broken. The bottom had dropped out so kitchen stools were the source of seating.
On a positive note, the hills are groomed nicely, the lodge restaurant has really good food, the chalet has decent food and is run well. You can rent anything ski/snowboard related at a reasonable price.
Overall, I felt our experince was enjoyable. I wish the 2 companies would make it more convienient for the guest to find and get information. Between the lodge and villas you don't have another option if you want to stay on the propertry. It would be nice for them to work together instead of being shady on the different offices and pricing.
I think I'll pass and try Lutzen next time.
