Proprietors John and Rhonda have built a stunning home and property. The room was comfortable and quiet. And breakfast was lovely: good food and friendly, engaging guests. The frog pond and short walk down to the river offer easy access to child-friendly outdoors. We did not have cell signal (Verizon) throughout the Wolverine area, but the B&B had fast WiFi.
[Note: the property and home are for sale - it currently serves as a B&B but would make a gorgeous family home/vacation property with its many en-suite bedrooms, open kitchen and breakfast room, and incredible riverfront grounds and gardens.]

Response from John Rhonda S, Owner at Silent Sport Lodge Bed and Breakfast
Responded Aug 6, 2018
Thank you and we're so glad you enjoyed your stay! We're a bit surprised that you didn't have any cell service with Verizon in the area. We know it can be spotty though, as we are in the Sturgeon River valley. We offer phone usage at the lodge when people have issues.

What a super retreat, tucked in the woods with no traffic noise, only a silent stream slipping by silently below the lodge. Hostess Rhonda Smit took us on a private guided snowshoe tour (giving us snowshoes to use) along the stream and nearby woods and beaver pond, which proved the outdoor highlight of our 3-night stay. Indoor, the breakfasts that Rhonda created were delightful, the perfect combination of special tastes, stories about the homegrown quality food, and a quantity which was sufficient without bogging down our stomachs before the morning ski. Rhonda and John made us and the other guests feel part of a family, chatting, playing cards, watching pine and evening grosbeaks at their feeder, etc. Socializing with new friends made this vacation! Each comfortable room abounded with natural art brought indoors, thanks to their interior decorating creativity and skills. We appreciated the guest refrigerator and microwave and the spacious common rooms to gather and relax. Rhonda and John's spot-on advice about local ski spots and restaurants, etc. ensured that we had a satisfying experience both at the lodge and throughout each day.

We stayed at the Silent Sports Lodge where John and Rhonda treat their guests like old friends. They have the knack of knowing when to give their guests solitude and when to include them in conversation and activities. So for those of you who have stayed clear of B&Bs because you don't want to be in "someone elses house", please know that this B&B is different. The large log cabin-house is incredibly comfortable and exceptionally clean. The flowers are lovely and the oganic veggie garden a bonus - mostly when it comes to Rhonda's yummy breakfasts. They both have a love for the outdoors and enjoy the silent sports - x-country skiing, hiking, kayaking, biking, etc. And the Pigeon River State Forest is close by for additional hiking and elk-viewing. I can't wait to return in the winter for their weekend of snowshoeing and winter rafting down the Sturgeon River. I highly recommend a get-away to the Silent Sports Lodge for some r & r.

We were greeted by hosts Rhonda and John who showed us to our charming room. From our window we could see the Sturgeon River flowing by. Paths for hikes abound and a breakfast of pumpkin pancakes with apple cider syrup was truly delightful. This wonderful b & b is located on thirty acres of woods with hiking paths throughout. Everything about it is comfortable and welcoming. We will definitely return to this one!

I just want to thank owners John and Rhonda for their hospitality, I can't say enough, they have a true gift. The accommodations were outstanding along with a super breakfast. This is a great location to spend a week or weekend, Mackinaw or Petoskey are only a 40 minute drive. Death to the hotel chains......

From the secluded beautiful setting on the Sturgeon river to the amazingly comfortable lodging, this is a great place to stay! The log home is gorgeous and the owners are friendly and warm. I normally wouldn't stay at a B&B but this was lovely. Breakfast was yummy and I loved my room. I would definitely recommend staying here. If you're a nature lover, you will love this place.

Loved the Silent Sport Lodge from the beginning. welcomed in the driveway by one of our hosts and from that moment on the experience was peaceful, relaxing and quiet. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable and the sitting rooms on each level give options for gathering in small groups or all together in the gorgeous sunroom overlooking the gardens. The windows allow the chance to watch bunnies, birds, their chicken and other wildlife. The breakfasts were delicious and everything was homemade including some syrups, rhubarb sauce and yummy frittata and French toast casserole. John and Rhonda are very friendly but also give you your space.

If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place to come to, and yet it is close to Petoskey, Glen Arbor, Traverse City etc. The gardens were just starting to come into bloom. A great place to watch for birds--we saw finches, jays, grosbeaks, oriels, and woodpeckers just to name a few. The breakfasts were good and tasty, and local products were put to good use.. Sitting on the porch to read is a good way to spend some down time--no noise other than the birds. Just walking around the grounds and the surrounding area is a delight for the senses. There is a fire pit available too.The nights are dark--no street lights etc. to interfere with looking at the night-time starry sky. The bed was comfortable. John and Rhonda were good hosts and we were treated like family. The conversations were interesting and informative. A good place not only to relax but renew and refresh your spirit as well.

We arrived in a snowstorm (18” by the time is ended) to a very warm reception from Rhonda and John. They offered hot cocoa and tea while we settled in and decompressed from the ride. The lodge is absolutely beautiful. Our original dinner plans were too far to travel in the storm so we tried the restaurant that Rhonda and John recommended. It had something to appeal to all members of the family and was so good, we went there the next evening after a day of skiing Nub’s Nob. During our time at the lodge, we watched a small herd of deer in the woods along the driveway, saw numerous birds including a pileated woodpecker and partridge, snow shoed along the river on a guided hike of the property, enjoyed warm hearty breakfasts, and slept soundly in comfortable beds. Rhonda and John are wonderful hosts, being as involved and available as much as we wished. We left this haven trying to figure out when we could get back. Rhonda and John have captured the true meaning of Silent Sport.

Thank you for a wonderful, memorable weekend.

Just got back from a weekend trip to Silent Sport Lodge. We stayed in the Mountain room which has a king bed and is ever so comfortable. Breakfast today was so pretty I had to take a picture!
We snowshoer on their groomed trails today and yesterday cross country skied on their property. Great bird watching, deer and just lovely winter scenery.

Rhonda and John are hosts extraordinaire offering entertaining stories, great ideas for things to do in the area and restaurant suggestions.

Pros. As the name implies, silent sports only at the lodge, so no snow mobiles. They have a river cabin and cottage for the snowmobilers Groomed skiing and snowshoeing trails, lots of acreage to roam. Great views off the family room. Great service, food and hosts. Year round access to rivers, lakes, you name it
Cons. Can't think of any. I will keep coming here summer, spring, winter and fall
