The entire building is in need of major renovation. Room smelled like someone had sprayed some sort of flowery disinfectant in it to hide who knows what. Towels and washcloths were extremely old and actually stained and looked as though the owner had put together a hodgepodge of old linens from garage sales or something. Some of them looked like they had been used for cleaning rags. Carpets were worn and dirty. In the bedroom my wife and I stayed in, there was a piece of loose carpet and a spot that felt like a hole. We lifted the carpet and actually found a hole in the floor where the carpet was covering soil. Silverware, pots and pans as well as utensils were again a scattered bunch of junk. Air conditioning for the room was a single room standing unit with a couple of box fans to blow cool air around. And on and on. We were supposed to stay for two days and we left after 24 hours.

Awesome location - close to everything for outdoor enthusiastS! We came up in the spring for hiking the waterfalls and in the fall for the colors! Trails are accessible from the property, as well! Condos are spacious with everything you’d need for a long weekend away!

White Pine is an interesting place. This town grew up as a Company Town for the Mining industry. The Company built a lot of the housing here (mostly trailer like places) which they sold off to locals for about $7000. These are now mostly rented but also are sold for around $20K or so. Another story we heard was that Pastys were invented here by the mining company so the miners had a good, filling meal to take down to the mines. Anyway...the town is not much but the Porcupine Lodge provides comfortable, inexpensive lodging for people that are touring, hiking, or fishing in the area. We were in Condo #3 and it seemed to be a little nicer than the others we had seen. The only negative is the dryer was very noisy so the owner let us use a washer/dryer in an unoccupied condo. We did have a reservation problem. We made reservations 6 months in advance and paid our deposit. No confirmation number etc but that's often the case in small, out of the mainstream places. When we arrived there was no office and we did not have cell phone service there. Luckily, there was someone staying there and he said he was assigned a condo after his reservation and it was unlocked and ready for him when he arrived. We tried all 5 other condos and found 2 unlocked. None had paperwork inside for us but they did have a phone and a contact #. We caught the owner just as he was leaving to go fishing. Long story, short, he came and put us in his best condo and we paid for the rest of the stay, and lived happily ever after. Moral...Make sure Porkie Lodge sends you a contract and a reservation confirmation with your condo #.

We stayed two nights in June at a very reasonable price. There were 3 guys traveling together to hike in the Porcupine Mts. The room had 3 comfortable beds available to us. The kitchen was well stocked and the living area was very comfortable. I was surprised to find that I had a WiFi connection for my phone. It as very secluded and surrounded by trees. We were kind of expecting to have to rough it a little bit. However, this place was comfortable beyond our expectations. Would definitely stay here again.

It felt like you were in a mobile home. with the thin wood paneling and the tiny bathroom. There were a bunch of dead Flys on the air conditioner and you could hardly see out the window because it was so dirty. The bedding was stained and the carpet is very old shag.

We wanted to do some hiking in the "Porkies" and needed a place to accomodate my brother, his wife, their 12 yr old son and my husband & I for a decent price as well as decent lodging. This was definately the way to go. We were pleasantly surprised with a newly painted, very spacious condo. It was only about a 10 minute ride to Lake Superior & 15 to 20 minutes to the Porkies & about 45 minutes from Bond Falls, not to mention there were some falls & other hiking just down the road. Children under 17 stay free with 4 adults, so that worked out great for us. We had 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen, nice sized living room/dining area & washer & dryer with laundry detergent in our room. It was nice to be able to wash all our clothes after 4 days at another camp as well as the 2 days we were staying at the Lodge & the fact that we still had other locations to get to yet. We pretty much had the whole place to ourselves since we were staying during the week. I would definately stay here again & would recommend it to others.

We took our daughter and 3 grandkids to the Upper Peninsula-near Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park so we could all see waterfalls at full roar with spring snow melt. We saw this place on the internet and saw that it was near Porcupine Mountains. We were so pleased with the location as well as the cozy and comfortable stay we had there. Very affordable and roomy enough for 6 of us-with kitchen and everything we needed to prepare food, clean clothes, etc. We took our food, charcoal, marshmallows and were able to prepare meals as well as have true comfort after hiking and seeing the waterfalls in the area. Nice place to stay for any season. Very hospitable hosts. We will definitely stay again. There is also a sauna out back.

Spent the last week of September and first week of October traveling around the UP of Michigan looking at the wonderful COLORS that were painted across the state. We found this place by accident through word of mouth ant the internet. It is a rather large bulding remodeled into 6 condo type apartments. They are fully furnished with everything including pots and pans, dishes even washer and dryers. Not the newest place in the world, but very comfortable. Did half of our meals there and half of our meals elswhere. A real good place to base yourself. This place is in the woods and rather unique. The price is well worth the stay. Thanks Dan and Rita
