Visiting the Langanes peninsula in north-east Iceland, we chose Ytra-Lon Farm Lodge as our base. A group of 12 found spacious rooms with a bathroom and a kitchenette for each couple. The hosts wre very pleasant and provided excellent service, taking us in their Land Rovers to the starting point of our hikes, for example. Don't hesitate to reccommend Ytra-Lon Farm Lodge to travellers in that distant corner of Iceland.

I arrived close to midnight which was no problem cause the staff were super nice. When we got there we got a personalised note along with our key which was very thoughtful. The hallway is like an adorable mini city. The rooms are bigger than I thought they would be and have a mini kitchen and a private bathroom. The only thing I’d recommend is having slippers cause the floor can get quite cold. But would otherwise recommend.

the guesthouse is made out of container appartements. This is not really very nice, but practical. The owners tried to make this more cosy by adding a lot of decoration. Not all of it, really fitted. But the rooms are big with fully equipped little kitchen and sofa. But the beds really need a madeup. My hubbies back is not good and he suffered that night.
This is a running farm and there is a lot to see, if you are interessted in dogs and sheeps. Owners are very friendly, as was the staff. Dinner and breakfast was very good, with homemade paté and jams.
We enjoyed our stay and if you want to explore the Langanes peninsula, this is the prefect spot to start.

Colourful and cosy. I had a spacious twin ensuite room with a kitchenette all to myself. I felt spoiled after the matchbox I'd sayed at the previous night somewhere in Adaldalur. This place has character and charm. You can tell the owners make an effort to welcome you in their home. We had lamb for dinner. Not bad at all. Highly recommended!

Langanes is a very special region of Iceland. It is not on the map of the average tourist looking to check Iceland off her bucket list. People who come to this far-flung outpost have specific interests and goals - birds, quietude, a sense of isolation, wide open spaces, interest in local history.

Ytra Lón comes as a surprise. It is a working farm. The rooms - container design - are large, fitted with a mini kitchen and fridge, and tastefully furnished. To find this level of comfort in such a remote location is a blessing.

Although we didn't eat here, the food served mostly features products sourced at the farm itself. Clearly this is a labour of love for the owners.

I have stayed in Langanes several times over the years but this was my first time at Ytra Lón.

Highly recommended.

Thank you for your kind review. Loved that you finally found Ytra Lón Farm & Retreat as your Homebase on Langanes peninsula. When visiting us next time please make sure to try our dinner. Our products from the farm raised in the wild are really worth the tasting! :)

Really loved our stay here. They had no wifi which I was perfectly fine with, I know some people weren't as happy about it. The rooms were comfy and the kitchen was bright and cheerful. Really picturesque location and drive out. Would absolutely stay there again.

Great to hear you liked your stay. As we are very far out we cannot offer internet access as most other places can. It's been a daily struggle for our family the last years. Since a short time this is getting better and we're doing an experiment this summer and offer our guests internet access. If this is succeeding well we're hopefully able to continue this in the future. Sometimes guests appreciate to be off line for a while :)

To our surprise this accommodation made us happy :-) Bright colors, nice atmosphere and friendly host. Good cooking and sleeping facilities in the middle of nowhere, no joke. There is a lot to see all around this hostel.

We were a family of four who were lodged in a family room with multiple beds. Everything was clean and warm. The common space was comfortable and very functional with plenty of available dishes, silverware and cups. There is an available breakfast to purchase with waffles, fresh greens from their hoop house, lamb pate and smoked trout as well as fresh baked rolls. While we did not take advantage of it, there are available land rover tours from Ytra Lon as well. This is a hostel on a working farm and not a luxury hotel. They do not pretend to be a luxury hotel but that said, the hostel is very well run and the farmers/owners are friendly.

We stayed here for one night during our trip around Iceland, and this is the only place we would not come back to.
It is located where there is not really anything to see - the room is a container made into a room, where there was a really bad smell, and the bathroom was very old.
Besides this, there was almost no selection for breakfast.
This was very very very expensive compared to what you get, so I would not recommend this place

Sorry the studio did not live up to your expectations, our container-studio's are build for this purpose and summer 2015 they were 8 years old. We think they are very convenient and people find everything they need in there. We'll keep an eye, or nose, on the smell, should not happen that it smells bad. For breakfast we offer a variety of homemade products, marmalade, smoked trout, lamb meat and homemade bread, when available something green of our greenhouse. Our lodge is not very big and usually not many guests for breakfast, so to not have to throw away lots of food we offer homemade quality in a sensible variation. Langanes peninsula offers great birding sides and cultural history, wide landscapes and tranquility for those who are seeking this.

Ytra Lon is a farm located in the middle of nowhere. The hotel part consists of a couple of spacious portakabins next to the farmhouse. Upon arrival we were nicely welcomed by the Dutch owner, who is very relaxed and told us everything about the area, the hotel and life in Iceland.
The room is very complete with three beds, a table and chairs, a cabinet to store your stuff, and a complete kitchen with all the equipment you could ever wish for. The bathroom is functional but nothing special. From the windows you have a great view on a desolated piece of nature.
Breakfast is being served in a separate building. There is not much to choose from, but the food –with home grown vegetables- tastes good.
A nice touch is the guest book that is on the table in every room. It is fun to read the comments (and sometimes tips) of other people.
This is definitely a place worth staying!

PROS
- Very friendly staff
- Rooms are well equipped, with a very complete kitchen
- All windows have roll-down shutters, that makes the room pitch dark
- Very nice location

CONS
- There is not much warm water, so showers could be cold if you’re not the first person to use them.
