Detailed Reviews
Hotel Walloon was as lovely and wonderful as previous reviewers have described! We were delighted to take advantage of the winter rates, which are much more affordable than summer rates. We had a King Corner Room, which I highly recommend. Everything about the room was top-notch, spacious, and comfortable. We only stayed one night but thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the lobby enjoying appetizers, along with drinks made by Owen. The weather was very cold, windy, and snowy, and so we loved that someone from Hotel Walloon went over to Barrelback restaurant next-door and brought over an order that we placed with the concierge. They will bring it to your room with plates. This is a great feature if you want to dine in! After dinner we enjoyed the desserts in the lobby. Breakfast was not fancy, but enough for what we needed in the morning. Every staff member was warm and accommodating. We will definitely be back to Hotel Walloon!

Greetings Cindy! Thank you so much for taking the time to review our property. I am happy that you had a wonderful and enjoyable stay with us here at Hotel Walloon. We are always trying to think of every little detail that our guests could need, making their stays as comfortable, relaxing and easy as possible. I'm excited to hear that you took advantage of the To-Go orders from Barrel Back, and were able to relax in the coziness of the hotel with some great food, staying warm while it was blustery and cold outside. We look forward to having you again in the future! Warm Regards, Emily

Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly staff member. She could not have been more accomadating. She also contacted us by phone prior to arrival and gave us information regarding the hotel and dining options. I told while there we would be celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary and she helped make dinner reservations and provided information regarding boat rentals.
The hotel is gorgeous and the rooms and spectacular. We had a corner king room that had the most amazing views with automatic blinds! The room also features kitchenette with coffee maker, refrigerator, dishwasher, dishes, glasses, plates and everything needed to eat in your room. The bathroom is spectacular, roomy shower, plenty of towels and mirrors that do not fog up. The bed was comfy and there are plenty of pillows. Robes and slippers are also provided. However what I really appreciated was how quiet the room was. Oh and I almost forgot there is an Alexa playing soft music on the night stand when you arrive. The housekeeping staff was so nice.
Regarding the outside: there is a nice approximately 4 feet deep beachfront to take a dip. Plenty of lounge chairs with umbrellas and towels that are provided.
In the lobby guests are treated to breakfast, late afternoon snacks and evening desserts. We also took advantage of the billiard room.
I have to say that it is a pricy hotel, but you get what you pay for, the location is superb. Wallon lake is incredible. We had the opportunity to rent a boat and the lake does not dissapoint.
As far as maks are concerned. No masks were not worn, however there was social distancing and upon arrival I did ask if mask were required and I was told they were not, however the front desk individuals asked me if I wanted her to put one on and I said no. I don't the that mask usage was an issue. At the time of my stay masks in Michigan were not mandatory.

This was our first visit to Hotel Wallon and it will not be our last. In retrospect, we made one mistake...we should have spent more time on this gorgeous property!! We hadn’t visited this area in sometime, so we were a bit preoccupied with reacquainting ourselves with nearby towns. The five star reviews here spot on. The staff is exceptional in every way, welcoming, charming, kind and accommodating. The other guests we interacted with were so delightful and made the ambience even better. We are sticklers for classy, beautiful interior design and the Hotel Wallon delivers. The designers deserve a national award for their incredible results. Absolute perfection! Our room on the lake side was heavenly, spotlessly fresh, extremely comfortable beds and linens and like the rest of the property beautifully designed. Peaceful, restorative comfort in every way.
The breakfast was simple, it very good. The scones and the muffins were delicious, especially the cinnamon muffin. This leads me to the one change that needs to be made, and that is the coffee. It’s simply not good. It’s a simple fix. I’m not obsessed with Starbucks, but their Pikes Place Roast would be a good suggestion. Great coffee is soooo important, please address this!
Our thanks to the Hotel Wallon for a lovely stay!

Greetings! I cannot thank you enough for your wonderful review of our property, its amenities and our staff. I am so happy that we were able to make your first stay with us here at Hotel Walloon a stay that you won't forget. We are always striving to exceed our guest expectations in every way possible. Our designer, Kathryn Chaplow, definitely did an amazing job with her perfectly appointed touches within the hotel. We love the charm that she has been able to set the hotel up with, adding to the ambiance for our guests. I want to thank you for your feedback in regards to the coffee. We just installed our new coffee machine, Mel, with some new espresso beans. I hope that when you return, you will find this coffee to be more to your liking. I appreciate this feedback, as this is how we can know areas where to better our hotel and our service. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to review our property. We look forward to seeing you again in the future! Warm Regards, Emily

Even though the room we booked for four people was pricy it was amazing service and quality. They have drinks and snacks out 24/7 and there are tons of shops and stores nearby. The hot tub and lake are really nice to enjoy and sit or swim. The one negative thing is that there are lots of boats so it does block the view of the sunrise and sunset but this hotel is worth every penny

If you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing hotel with all the special amenities-this is it. Hotel Walloon is set on the edge of Walloon Lake in northern Michigan, located between Petoskey and Charlevoix. Although built within the past ten years, it has all the feels of a turn of the century fabulous lake house. When you walk through the wide front porch you’ll be greeted by name from the staff. The rooms are luxurious and baths have heated floors-feels so good on a cool morning. There are many places to grab a latte (from a dreamy coffee machine) and retreat with your favorite book. Hotel Walloon provides wonderful happy hour appetizers you can snack on before having dinner at a local restaurant. After that, be sure to stop back in for dessert offered nightly to guests! The cozy fire pit by the lake offers a relaxing spot for a final glass of wine at night. I was so impressed with the staff. Housekeeping found a bag I left with my brand new AirPods in there…and the hotel so graciously mailed them back to me! We will definitely return to this gem on the lake.

Lack of staff made for a lot of standing around waiting until a staff member to appear. Was promised valet parking (was called by the hotel prior to stay asking for details of the car)but there was none and was told that I “could find a parking spot across the street” and ended up parking myself through out our stay. I suggest that they cover up the valet signage when the service is not available.
Breakfast offerings were limited and redundant.
Not sure if I could agree (from the the hotel website) “where guests can enjoy the charm and hospitality of the early twentieth century.”

Greetings! Thank you for your review and feedback of our property and your experience. Please let me start with apologizing for the confusion with the valeting of your vehicle. Due to COVID-19, some of our staff members are not comfortable with valeting a guests vehicle at this time, however, there are a handful of us that will valet a vehicle, which is why we haven't removed any signage. I am sorry that this service was not offered to you during your stay. I want to make sure that all of our guests are not only receiving the service that they expect, but going above and beyond our guests expectations. We will use your feedback to better serve our guests not only during these times of COVID, but also in the future. I also want to thank you for your feedback with the breakfast items. We are always continually discussing different options, to better our guests experience. It is through comments such as yours that help us to grow and become the best hotel we can. I truly hope you will return to Hotel Walloon in the future, where we can show you the true meaning of hospitality. Warm Regards, Emily

This place is just the best. We love coming here to relax for a few days every winter. Hors d'oeuvres are tasty, cocktails are well-made, fire is warm and rooms are perfect. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I'm pretty sure someone brushed the snow off my car during our last stay.

We spent two nights at the Hotel Walloon and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was outstanding and the accommodations were top notch. Get a room overlooking the lake - great views and the sound of the waves are so relaxing. The staff bent over backwards to keep us happy. They have a nice little bar that has a nice variety of bourbons. Our only disappointment is that there is hardly any shops by the Hotel. There are two nice restaurants within walking distance, so that we a nice treat. I recommend both restaurants. Check this hotel out - you will not be disappointed.

Charming small resort hotel on Walloon Lake. We could relax and enjoy all the comforts of the hotel or wander around the area and stop for dinner at the nearby Walloon Lake Inn. Both have impeccable service and I feel like I am at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai, Hawaii. This is our 2nd stay and w always look for a reason to stay here when we are in the area. Most times it is booked, but we try just in case we get lucky. Today, we extended our stay an extra night because the weather is sunny and 70 degrees and we got a deal to stay Sunday night. Highly recommended.

We spent two nights in a room facing the lake. We enjoyed the view on the balcony.
Our room and the very modern bathroom were spacious and the bed comfortable.
The muffins for breakfast, cookies in the afternoon, appetizers early evening and desserts Later in the evening were of excellent quality. We appreciated the coffee machine in the bar area which would brewed any type of coffee.
Small but well equipped exercise room which we used both mornings.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
