Detailed Reviews
Lift ticket includes both resorts. There is a bus that runs every hour between the two resorts. Why it takes an hour I don’t know. The cables on their chairlifts need to be tighten. Every time they stopped I wanted to throw up. The far east side of the mountain was powder. The east chairlift wasn’t open either so we didn’t ride much that way. The west side of the mountain says black runs but I would consider it more intermediate. The hill was decent.

This was our second visit to Indianhead. With Covid you were able to use the restroom, put on gear, purchase & eat food, and warm up. It was disappointing in which chair lifts they had opened. We weren't able to access all of the hill. All the chairs are old school with the bar in the middle besides the one out back. The runs we could access were great & groomed. We did not enjoy the black diamonds ad much as we did at Blackjack.

The final trip of the year for the Rib Mountain Ski Club was to Snowriver Mountain Resort, formerly Big Snow. The individual hills are now named Jackson Creek(Indianhead) and Black River Basin(BlackJack). The name change was brought on by Charles Skiier, owner or Lutsen and Granite Peak.
As usual, upper peninsula snow is always great and like coming home.
Skinner has made changes to the lodge and on tap for 2023-24 a high speed six pac at Jackson Creek. Can’t wait to see what the future brings to these historic ski hills.

Our room smelled like urine. Walls are thin and it’s noisy, especially near the stairs around 9-10pm when groups of people return from skiing.
The lifts look very old with rust but did not fail during our ski. The snow was good too. Overall, it’s not good enough for a return trip. There were too many issues with the resort and I would feel better riding a modern lift.

This was our familys first time skiing and snowboarding. Broken hot tub, fireplace was not in use in main lodge because its not up to code, no night time skiing, food service stops at 4, main restaurant was closed, skiing is done at 4, chair lift broke down, 1.5 hour wait in line to get equipment, Ski lift operator was extremely rude and told my daughter that if she didnt know how to get on lift she shouldnt be skiing, it was her first time ever getting on one! We had fun skiing and snowboarding but would never come back here. Its crazy expensive ( order of fries is $10 as an example) the staff we encountered were so rude and just not friendly. The bar at the bottom of the hill was charming and had wonderful bartenders, excellent hot chocolate and bloody marys and my daughter said her hamburger at the sky bar was amazing.

We stayed at the Indianhead resort lodge for a long ski weekend recently. Staying at the lodge was like stepping back in time. They are celebrating 60 years in business. While they have been around a while the resort was clean, the room comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. The Manager, Misty, was friendly and wealth of information. This stay added to our fond memories of past vacations. The ski hill staff was just as friendly and accommodating. The food; lunch & dinner, at both the lodge and the hill were very good and a good value. Accessing the ski areas to and from the lodge by complimentary shuttle was a nice plus. We did not go to Blackjack, but may in the future.

The skiing is great—chair lifts are a bit old but otherwise no complaints. Nice staff, good snow. Four stars.
The lodge was another story. The walls are paper thin and noisy neighbors kept us up all night. It’s also well understaffed. The pool is big and the complimentary hot breakfast is decent, but it’s not worth it for a poor night’s sleep. Next time, we will pay extra for the condos or stay somewhere else. Two stars.

The Lodge- not to be confused with the other slope-side places. The staff was friendly. The room was terrible. Think 1982 and the Shining! We left and headed to the American Inn (which was amazing!)
It is close to the ski hill however, there isn't any food or bars-except those at Indianhead.

I don't know what year Indianhead built the accommodations, but it has a 70's feel. Nothing has changed since my last trip in 1988. They are still using grooming equipment from the 1960's and they really do need to improve that.
The trailside condo we rented was smaller than the pictures, but was clean and adequate.
The restaurants, bar, chairlifts, work, but are far from luxurious nor up to current standards. The place would have been a ghost town, if it wasn't for the race going on, yet they weren't accommodating to the racers, or fans at all. With 2 racers left, they told everyone they needed to get up the mountain asap as the lifts were shutting down in 15 minutes, and the lift at the bottom of the FIS Race Trail won't get you anywhere since the resort is the opposite of most being at the top instead of the bottom. (You'd think for 300 plus people they would have kept them running to get the racing finished, instead of yelling, ride now or walk back to the top!)
Overall it's not a bad place, but the grooming equipment causes bumps in the cord, and they should get some pads on the the chairs, especially the one with an all metal seating area. Half the lift operators were really nice, half were rude. (I can imagine it's not easy to find empoyees in such a small town.)

A mixed bag here. An older resort, a little dated, but clean and pleasant. Our glitch was that we had reserved a 3 bedroom house for 2 couples and 2 children. When we arrived we were told the owner had given it to some friends without informing management. We were put into a 2 bedroom house which had enough beds, but not the configuration or space we had planned on, pretty cramped. This property had some maintenance issues also, we had to have repairmen in 3 times to work on the toilets. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The ski school instructors were great. Unfortunately, the weather was less than cooperative, but we did get in some skiing and snowboarding.
