we stayed at the Inn at Union Pier in August. We had a lovely room and a wonderful time. However, we cut our visit short by one night—at the suggestion of Bill. He owns this lovely piece of history and suggested that we leave early. Why? Was it because we were bad guests? Not at all. Was it because we complained? No. It was because Union Pier and the entire area lost power and it was not restored in a timely fashion. He said that not only should we leave, but he would refund us our last night’s stay. Bill, you see, runs a business but fosters kindness in the process. People actually spent time talking with each other—at the nightly wine happy hour, at the daily breakfast and in the courtyard during the evening. That happens because in addition to lovely accommodations, Bill and his team create a sense of belonging while there. Is this the fanciest Bed and Breakfast? probably not—but I have yet to find one that is more pleasant to stay at and more relaxing to be at. Do yourself a favor. Visit Union Pier and stay for a couple of days at the Inn. You won’t be sorry.

We couldn't have asked for a better Fourth of July weekend stay at the Inn at Union Pier. We had booked a last minute stay and Mary Ann worked with us via email and telephone to make it happen. Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Mary Ann and Abby who took time to explain how things worked. Our room, the Captain's Quarters was clean and very comfortable with king bed and fabulous bathroom/shower, kitchenette and TV. A delightful balcony was available to watch the fireworks privately. Delicious breakfasts (included) of scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, fruit parfait, waffles, cupcakes and coffee and tea were served each morning with tea and cookies before bed and wine and popcorn every evening before dinner. A short walk to the beach brought sunshine, beautiful Lake Michigan, fabulous sunsets and friendly folks enjoying every moment. The Grove restaurant is one mile to walk or drive and Whistle Stop Grocery and Red Arrow Road House Restaurant are a short walk. The grounds of the Inn are lovely and relaxing with lounge chairs to enjoy the scenery. Bikes are available also. The staff is super friendly, personable and helpful. Highly recommended and we will definitely return.

We decided at the last minute to take a trip and did a last minute booking at the Union Pier Inn! Could have not been happier. Room was perfect, comfortable and having our own private balcony was an added bonus. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. The grounds were beautiful with the flowers, chairs to enjoy a night to watch the stars. Nice walk to the beach which was clean and family friendly. Breakfast was delicious and they made me toast each morning. I can not wait to go back in the fall. Be sure to visit the open air market at Skips for some unique finds!
