Detailed Reviews
Property's Favorite Review
Our family rented the entire inn in late July and it was a fantastic stay. The rooms were very good, each had its own full bathroom with jacuzzi / shower and TV. The house was spacious and it was a great size for our family. On the property was plenty to do - swimming pools, bags sets, volleyball, kayaks, etc. It was a nice quiet vacation spot.
Pro's:
Fairly reasonably priced in comparison of similar houses in the area to rent
spacious house
GREAT customer service - owners answered calls and was very accommodating
Provided basics for the kitchen - salt, pepper, oils, napkins, utensils, etc
Pool was close by, semi heated and clean
Farm fresh vegetables and eggs onsite to buy
Very close to New Buffalo which had shops, beach, restaurants, farmers markets, etc
Close to blueberry picking and other beaches
Cons (and this is me nitpicking)
the beds were kind of small and loud. When you moved in the bed they creaked. Also I am used to king size beds and double or queen was very small
the jacuzzi / showers were awkward and VERY hard to get in and out of. They did have a shower on the first floor that was more accessible. We never used the jacuzzi's so it just made it an awkward shower
The suites off the kitchen were nice because they had a spare bed in the back room but the bathroom space was tiny, pedestal sinks with limited to no storage - made it hard to share a room. We eventually switched to the rooms upstairs which were much nicer and bigger and had more space.
Overall it was a great visit and we likely return in the future!

Goldberry Woods B & B is a great retreat for those seeking superior accommodations in tranquil surroundings! The rooms at the inn are clean, very comfortable, pleasing, and the general areas of the inn, namely, the dining area, the lounge and the sun room are so inviting..., and Eric, the host who greeted us, is very warm and friendly, making one feel very welcome, and Julie, his wife and co-owner, prepares fresh organic breakfast tailored to your special dietary needs!
Goldberry Woods is a quiet retreat in the woods that's still close to the scene of action - the many beaches, hiking trails, kayaking, great dining in beautiful outdoor settings...Who Says You Can't Have It All? A Great Getaway!

My husband, adult son and I stayed in the Creekside Cottage for 5 days in October. We loved the space we had to ourselves and splured on ordering the homemade breakfasts delivered to our door each morning. Each one was delicious and arrived hot! We had carrot pancakes, french toast casserole, egg rollups, yogurt parfaits and green tomato bread with blueberries. We also enjoyed our own firepit. We lucked out with the weather and were able to swim in the outdoor heated pool 3 days in a row! That is the first time I have been swimming outside in the midwest during October. While we were there they were constructing a cover for the pool to extend the swimming season. We enjoyed strolling in the gardens and visiting the chickens which were very entertaining. The location of Goldberry Woods is very convenient to many attractions and restaurants. We highly recommend Timothy's restaurant right down the road. We enjoyed petting Fluffy the cat who is very friendly. Having a cat on the premises helped us not miss our cat at home so much. The owners, Eric and Julie are very friendly and eager to answer any questions you might have. We hope to visit again in the near future!

Had a fantastic time, and enjoyed our stay. Very relaxing and comfortable stay. Room was great, large with a cozy fireplace and sitting area, also with our own private deck . Grounds were large, nice hiking paths along river, set in the woods. We used there kayaks for an extremely peaceful trip down the river and back. A hearty Breakfast with coffee & orange juice was brought to the room every morning. Relaxing hot tub and outside firepits help keep the cool outside temperatures at bay. Would highly recommend, their location is great too. Also, just a block up the street was an amazing restaurant, Timothy's, we went twice! would highly recommend Timothy's too

We should have cancelled our reservation after the website confirmed it, and then the owner kept emailing me to tell me I had to switch the dates. He also told me that his website shouldn’t have let me make that reservation! What? It wasn’t my fault the website let me make the reservation. After much stress and much back and forth with the owner, we switched our reservation to suit him. Should have canceled instead.
We rented the Rivers Edge cottage. While it is part of the property, it is not in the secluded part where the Inn and the other cottages are. It’s actually close to the road (not an issue) and very close to a private, neighboring house. The neighbors were quite noisy, using loud blowers and chain saws, and they set off VERY loud fireworks many nights, many of which landed on the driveway to our unit. Not Goldberry’s fault, but not a secluded cottage. In addition, the unit is “tired” looking. It could use some TLC both inside and out. It needs paint everywhere at the very least. The major kitchen appliances worked well enough, but the website description led us to believe they were updated, when in fact they were quite old. (The coffee maker provided was so filthy we went out and bought our own). The furnishings were tired and dated as well…we felt like we had stepped into someone’s attic. The bunk room is actually a converted garage, down several steps, and closed off from the rest of the cottage with an exterior door. It has a window AC unit. The steps leading down to the river didn’t look like they could withstand much weight (we are not overweight people, but didn’t want to risk it.) The screens on the screened in porch needed repair, so they weren’t really good at keeping bugs out.
The main part of the property was rented out, so the “free snacks” were not available.
There were no closets in any of the bedrooms. It wasn’t the worst place we have ever stayed, but for what we paid, we could have stayed somewhere nicer. Just letting you know all of this because the pics on the website don’t show what the cottage is really like.
Also, after we left, the owner asked us to contact him if we had anything unfavorable to say, or if we were pleased to go to trip advisor. That’s probably why this is the only “less than stellar” review.
It wasn’t what we had hoped it would be. Two positive things I can say is that
Carly met us and showed us around and was lovely, and it was nice that we had access to bikes and kayaks (although those could also be rented fairly close by).

Response from Julie Haberichter, Owner at Goldberry Woods Bed & Breakfast Cottages
Responded Aug 13, 2022
Thank you for staying with us. We are very sorry that you were not satisfied. We want to comment on a few things as other potential guests are now reading your comments: You changed dates from what was originally discussed, and our booking system should not have allowed you to make the reservation. We immediately brought this up to you and requested the needed modification. We apologized for the issue and provided multiple alternative options—including the original dates you said you wanted to reserve. We gladly would have allowed you to cancel; however, you made the final choice to stay on the alternate dates. The River’s Edge house is indeed secluded on a private lot with 6-foot privacy fence on both sides. It is the house next door to our main property and is away from our Inn and other cottages. The house features a large private parking area, private fire pit, gas grill, and amazing private views of the river and woods below. The stairwell to the river had most of the steps replaced two weeks before your arrival as well, so your comments here are unfounded. You rented the house over the 4th of July weekend, and we cannot control what fireworks neighbors use. While we are not big fans either and do not allow fireworks on our property, they are allowed on major holidays in our township. We are most confused by your comments regarding the quality of the house and the furnishings. We are continually improving/updating the property and we have added brand new roof and gutters along with 3 completely new bathrooms and bedrooms, newly paved driveway, a new bunkroom with built-in custom bunks and foosball/game tables, new leather sectional sofa in living room, all new quality mattresses, luxury bedding/linens/towels, new quartz kitchen counters, fresh paint throughout, and much more. The furnishings are in style with the mid-century house and are a mix of new designs and some antiques. Several of the bedrooms do indeed have closets and all have dressers and hooks for hanging. The screen porch is fully screened in and provides wonderful views of the woods and river below. Also, most guests love the idea of having the kid’s bunkroom on the other side of the house. The photos online absolutely reflect the condition and status of the house. Most other guests tell us how the online photos do not do the house justice. We put tremendous pride into all we do and are constantly updating/renovating spaces.

What a wonderful all around experience. The location is in a lovely wooded area with so many entertaining options such as wineries, shopping, beaches, near by. The Silver Maple room was just perfect. The breakfast both mornings were outstandingly delish! Not your grannies pancakes and eggs, definitely gourmet. Eric was very kind when greeting us and in an informative relaxing way showed us around and to our room. They have installed new covid practices and we felt safe in their clean and comfy place. The perfect place to relax for a 47th anniversary trip. We will return.

My husband and I rented the creekside cottage for a long weekend getaway in February. It was snowy and cold, but we loved it all the same! The cottage was clean, well equipped, and had a nice fireplace that we used regularly. The grounds were so lovely and took a snowy walk in the woods each day of our visit. I can't wait to come back in the warmer months to see the farm in all of it's glory, but they did invite us into the greenhouse to see what was still growing mid-winter. Lastly, the food was out of this world amazing. If you stay in a cottage, I recommend paying the extra money for a breakfast from the inn because it was just so delicious! For dinner each night we easily ordered takeout from some of the lovely restaurants close by. Would highly recommend!

After being stuck in Chicago for months on end during COVID we wanted a couple of day getaway where we could safely relax and unwind. Goldberry Woods was an excellent choice. Innkeepers Eric and Julie could not be more hospitable. They greeted us warmly and have created a beautiful oasis a little more than an hour from Chicago. The grounds our lovely. Not only do they have a pool, but a beautiful microfarm and also a lovely river where you can enjoy a nice Kayak ride. During COVID they deliver you a crate with your breakfast in it and you can enjoy it inside or outside -- whatever your preference. Highly recommend their property!

This trip was amazing. We stayed in the innkeepers house. It was beautiful, well maintained, and had plenty of room for the 11 people and two dogs that stayed. The pool and hot tub were fantastic and well heated. We got to explore the river on the kayaks they provide along with the free tick spray the provide when going into the wooded areas. The kids loved the playground and berry picking, along with the chickens, ducks, and quails. The owners are very helpful and even provided us with beach chairs, beach toys, and beach towels. I was so pleased with this area and especially this sweet little quiet retreat. Can’t wait to come back.

We took advantage of a mid-week special and saved some $ while also having the three huge common areas, (kitchen/diningroom, living room and sunroom) nearly to ourselves. I would get up a few hours before my adult daughter, have coffee, check email etc. in the sunroom. We canoed the river, (saw a large crane), soaked and swam in the enclosed hot tub and pool during a rainstorm , hiked the woods trail (dotted with humerous viginettes) and explored the farm. We walked the New Buffalo beach boardwalk and shops only 10 minutes away and at the Three Oaks Journeyman distillery enjoyed cauliflour steak, pulled pork and a purple rain mixed drink (add the lemon juice and blue drink turns purple.)
