I posted a review of this hotel two years ago and vowed not to return after very poor treatment at the front desk. Well I decided to give it a try again. I've been to this property many times over the years so I am very familiar with the hotel and the area. It is in a great location. There are lots of great restaurants in the area. Easy access to Royal Oak, Rochester, and Birmingham. Check-in was fine. The remodeled rooms have negatively impacted my perception of the property. All the carpet is gone from the rooms and they now have bare floors. This is a very unfortunate move some Marriott Hotels have opted for during recent remodels. The result is a cheap/cold feeling. Bring your slippers or be prepared to wear your shoes/socks the entire time you are in your room. I can't imagine what Marriott is thinking with this look. The concierge lounge is still closed but the restaurant is open for breakfast. As an Ambassador Elite, I was given a daily coupon for free breakfast. I ate the breakfast there twice but then opted to eat breakfast elsewhere on the other days. They have modified the buffet somewhat so that a server now puts the hot food items on your plate. I understand why they do this and I have no problem with it. Check-out was underwhelming. I was the only customer at the desk. The clerk was on the phone but didn't even acknowledge me as I waited. I don't like being ignored and as her phone conversation continued I decided to just place the keycard on top of the desk and leave. Not a huge deal but just shows some of the ongoing issues this property has with it's front desk staff. Completely ignoring a customer does not leave a good impression. Overall a very average stay. I would stay again if I really needed to be in the area...and it is a great area. The room remodel has been a definite negative. There is no warm and cozy feeling in the rooms at this property. The front desk service may have evolved somewhat since my unfortunate experience two years ago, but they still seem to not be a very customer-centric operation. I'm assuming there are some training and/or management issues in this area.

I had essential work in Detroit and stayed 5 days at the Troy Marriott. I cannot say enough nice things about the staff. They made me very comfortable with the safety measures taken and were extremely helpful for all questions related to food, travel, safety in walking, etc. The room was great. The bathroom especially. The bathroom was large, the shower was as big as my one at home! I loved the small nice touches like the nozzle on the shower, the little anti-bacterial packets. The bed was comfortable, fridge was nice to have an I loved that I could watch Netflix, HBO and other subscription channels. Also there is a little shop in the lobby which has healthy options, wine, beer and ice cream. LOVED having this so convenient. The landline didn't work well, but I really only had to use it a couple of times. Also, the recycling situation could be improved. Overall, great stay and highly recommend!

I only have good things to say about my 8 day stay here. Everyone was friendly and helpful: from the front desk attendant, to the people who helped me with my bags, to the bartenders at their restaurant. And, even though it’s crazy times with the Coronavirus and guest counts/occupancy is down, everyone kept an upbeat attitude. Thanks for a great guest experience! -Christina Cartwright

Great service by banquet staff. The rooms were recently remodeled and are nice. I had a suite and found it odd there was no safe. I was thinking it might be that it wasn’t installed yet, but I can’t see where it would fit. Regardless they took care of our large group very nicely.
