After sitting down, we waited for about 20 minutes for our server to appear. When drinks were delivered about 10 minutes later, one was wrong and we were informed they were out of one of the beers. The server came back with the replacement beer about 5 minutes later, but placed it on another table while he took their order for about 5 minutes. When we asked the server what the vegetable of the day was he responded that he didn't know. The food certainly did not make up for the poor service, especially the steak that was impossible to cut with the plastic silverware provided and only slightly easier with actual silverware. The views are great, but the service and food were bad.

Traveling to TC from Detroit last minute due to a family injury and hospital stay at Munson’s. My 18-year old was put in ICU. I called from the road to seek availability. I explained the purpose of my trip and asked for 1 night availability. They had a room. Upon further consideration I said “can I book the room for 2 nights. I am not sure the extent of his injury or how many nights we’ll be in TC”. They booked me for 2 nights. The next day I asked to check out because they were releasing my son late that evening. I was told I would have to pay for both nights because they require a 24-hour notice. I explained that policy wasn’t communicated at booking but nonetheless we were billed for two nights. I understand it’s a tourist destination and high season, but this felt like a total money grab to me. On the positive side I was given a room rate discount but again ... charged for a night I didn’t need. I travel a lot for business. I choose this location solely because it’s advertised as Holiday Inn. They dropped Holiday Inn and are now independent. So no reward points. Regarding the location I would give it a 5 out of 10. It’s fairly run down. The hall carpet is loose and needs stretched. The elevator floor is delaminated and blistered. The breakfast is overpriced ($28 for two simple dishes). The room was ok. No complaints. Smelled a little musty, but that may be due to the lake proximity. Overall, it needs some upgrades.

This hotel is experiencing a change of property ownership/management and not doing very well at it.. During our stay we were constantly at the front desk with problems ( the room phones didn't work, so it necessitated a trip down to the desk). Nobody really seemed to care and the excuse was always the same - new management.. Be proactive for your paying guests! This stay was a room nightmare for us.

I have been staying at the Holiday Inn for years as a frequent business traveler as well as vacation traveler to the area, although a bit old and outdated it always provided a reliable stay in a good location at a very fair price. So in May I decided to book a holiday trip with my family in one of their renovated suites. They were extremely expensive because of the Holiday weekend and the new takeover from Delamar but I didn't mind as the pictures and description of the changes looked very inviting. I booked a King suite with water views for four days. As the date approached I was skeptical of the rooms being ready so I called three times over the course of two months to make sure they were and I was assured of them being finished. When I arrived it was late at night and I was flat out disgusted at what I saw. The view of the bay was of the other guestrooms and a courtyard, the mirrors and furnishings were on the floors, the toilet paper was sitting on the back of the toilet because the holder was not installed, there was drywall dust all over the room, it had not been completely painted, the refrigerator was in the room but not installed, the tv was plugged in but the cable had not been run yet so it wasn't working and by far the worst part was that the air conditioning was not working and instead the fan was blowing noxious fumes into the room from the painting and drywall in the wing, so horribly that it was a legitimate health concern. As I said it was late at night so I went to pick up the phone to complain but guess what, NO PHONE they hadn't been installed yet. The next morning I went to speak with the desk, the clerk agreed that the rooms were not ready and was confused as to why they had rented the rooms while they were under renovation, he told me he was leaving a note for Kelly the manger to read and get back to me as she wasn't in until the evening shift. I never received a call, or a note or a visit. After I got back I asked for the manager again. No one was available. The next day I asked for the manager again, the clerk this time said "oh are you in the new west wing, yeah they aren't ready". The manager Ryan Satchell was supposed to call me on my cellphone or come to the room to talk to me because the phones didn't exist, but NOTHING. We had to leave the room all day because of the fumes and turn off all the fans at night as to not breathe in the air, the 4th of July weekend made relocating impossible. I was stuck in Hell. I read articles on how Delamar wanted to make this a pinnacle of Traverse City Hotels and Hospitality, how it was going to be the best place in TC. Wow, it was atrocious stay far far far away from this place. Myself and my company will not be staying with them ever again. Get a tent and sleep outside, you will have a much better experience trust me.

First, I must say that I have never complained about a hotel room. The first room we were assigned was a King Bed. Unfortunately with 4 people, they missed the mark on the 2 queen reservation. They then moved us to a 2 queen bed room with a view of the parking lot. The room was AWFUL. Stains on the ceilings, drips Down the walls, and a filthy bathroom highlighted this $300+ per night room. A bath in that tub was out of the question. Then we came back to our room in the evening with the morning’s towels still in the bathroom. No new towels were provided. I had to ask for housekeeping to bring towels and take the used ones. Multiple days the room service dishes were ignored. I had to request that those be taken away. The only remedy offered was for us to move to yet another room. I was able to contact corporate since there was no response at the hotel directly for some assistance. I have never stayed at such an expensive hotel with such poor accommodations and service. The breakfast was not good either. On the positive side, parking and the location were ideal. I would select somewhere else next time.
