This park is definitely urban camping. I have been here many years before and I found that this park is unchanged in good and bad ways. The good: everything is very close by including convenience stores, restaurants, coffee shops, downtown Front street, etc. The bad: the traffic noises, very old swing set and slide for kids, and loud airport noises at all hours. Our site was close to a set of bathrooms and the bathrooms were clean, stocked with toilet paper, and the showers were working fine. The staff did monitor the camp throughout the day

Our site was large on a corner so I had no complaint there. Other sites you could tell were smaller. You can’t have any media after 10pm even on your cell phone because they will come and tell you to turn off so take headphones if you are a night owl. Shower was freezing by 8am the first day. Get there early if you want any chance of hot water. Soap wasn’t plentiful in the bathrooms which is concerning due to covid. Cleanliness wasn’t great but wasn’t awful. You expect some dirt and bugs as you are camping. Nice fire rings on the sites and they do sell wood onsite but there are many other places nearby that also sell it. No water at the sites so take jugs or plan to walk a lot to the spigots. Overall good place to camp and close to many amenities.

I have stayed at this park 3 times in the past 14 months. I have complained that people are being noisy even as last at 1am. They dont clean their bathrooms as much as they should. The showers we had were luke warm. The only way we'll stay there again is if its the off season. One more thing i was upset about is they locked thier back gate at 10pm on the 4th, but didnt lock it on the weekend. Fireworks dont get over until late. It doesn't take a Guinness to know that maybe keep it open late on the 4th. I just thought i would write a review to help people decide if this place is really where thay want to stay and also maybe the dnr might read it too making some changes

Old restored theatre. Beautiful comfy rocking seats very clean. Friendly staff. Saw musical and full screen sound was awesome . Highly recommend. Show a variety of different types of shows. Check their flyer and advertising sources.

Sites were OK, a little close together, typical of many older state parks. Some road and airport noise, but then you are camping in a city. Get wood on 4 mile for a better price. They do not allow dogs on beach which was a bummer.

Good location in Traverse City and right on the bike trail. The sites by the highway are noisy from the traffic. We had a site at the back right on the VASA bike trail which was quieter. We were able to walk to restaurants and bike downtown. The comfort stations were just OK. My shower stall had a plugged drain and I felt like I was taking a bath midway into the shower. The washrooms were not always well cleaned or had supplies (soap and paper). The location makes this a nice park, close to trails, beach and walk to restaurants. Bayside Market which is the small store right beside the park makes great sandwiches and has great meats, wine and other grocery items.

We loved our visit to Traverse Coty. The wineries were a favorite. So many beautiful scenes of the grapes and the water views of the lake. I also enjoyed the lighthouse!! This was a great place to visit. The over 1500 tractors were there to cross the bridge! What an awesome sight!!

This is a huge campground, almost 500 spaces. There are lots of trees and spaces are nicely separated. The only drawbacks are the showers and restrooms (it's hard to keep them clean with that many people) and the traffic noise. It's right on the highway, just across from the beach in town. The highway is noisy and constantly busy, even at night. Still, it was a good place to stay to visit the area. We had site 469 with lots of room. There is open area, a trail and a playground between campground and highway, and a skybridge to get to beach.

I stayed in the East Bay mini cabin at Traverse City State Park in July 2018. The mini cabins serve my family’s purposes well. The cabin has a mini fridge, a microwave, counter with stools, electric outlets, and lighting. It has 2 windows that can be opened for ventilation. The lot also comes complete with a picnic table, grill, and fire pit. My only negative comment is the location of the state park, it’s near an airport so you will hear the planes overhead early in the morning and with the park right on Hwy 31 you can also hear ambulances and any other emergency vehicles at any hour. Besides that the park is about the same condition as any other Michigan state park. Bathrooms are fair, we didn’t have to wait for a shower. The lighting in the showers need to be updated, they are dimly lit. There is a nice blacktop bike trail that can be accessed from the campground and goes to the downtown area. I would highly recommend the mini cabins to anyone who likes to camp but does not have a camper. The photos are of the East Bay mini cabin.
