Detailed Reviews
Great place to stay in Traverse City. Beautiful lodge. We stayed in a two bedroom unit. Excellent master bedroom with Air Tub. We would have rated our stay 5 stars except the hot tub in our room would work for 5 minutes then trip circuit breakers on the room's GFI circuits. Maintenance promptly responded several times but never fixed the cause. Frustrating. Front desk very friendly and efficient. We understand about the Covid limitations and having to refresh our towels in the washing machine and dryer. However, A note of the house rules stating extra towels would incur a lodge premium charge along with penalties for not removing "extra" garbage seemed overly negative for an over $400/night room.

I have been staying at this property for several years, same time every year, which is the 3rd week of May, one week befor the Memorial Day Holiday, when when the summer rates become effective. Today I called to make my reservation for this year (2022) and was astonished to hear that the room rate for the condo that I rent every year has increased by 30%!!!!
Look, I know there there is inflation, 6.5% percent to be exact, so it would be fair to increase rent by that amount, by 30%?? This is just gouging, plain and simple. Regretably, I will be lookinhg for accomidation elseware, perminetly

We visited the resort in celebration of our 22nd wedding anniversary. The resort is very well maintained. Our one bedroom was very clean and spacious. Everything you need to cook a meal is there. My only downfall is the lack of friendliness that we received from the staff. Chris from the front desk called my husband’s phone speaking of a noise complaint, when we had just returned to the resort and there was absolutely no noise coming from the room as we were eating. Not friendly towards African Americans at ALL!!!!!

The room was gorgeous but this place is way over priced, especially since there is no coffee in the room, breakfast is not included (or even available) and there is no pool. Not only that, you had to initial your name on two pages worth of stuff before you could check in. We arrived at 2:45, with a 4:00 checking. Our room was available but they would not let us in until 4:00 (other hotels will let you in if your room is available). Checkout was early at 10:00. We had to bag up all our trash and take it to outside receptacles if there was more than one trash bag (if we didn't, we would be fined 50 dollars and then an additional 25 dollars for one bedroom, 50 dollars for 2 bedroom and 75 dollars for 3 bedroom place). We also had to bag up all our lines and place them in a bag, if we didn't, we'd have another fine. Ridiculous, we will not return. It's too bad because the room itself was very nice and had everything you would need. We get a larger two bedroom condo unit on the beach in Fort Myers Florida and we spend almost 50% less and that resort includes three pools, a wonderful breakfast every morning, free access to kayaks and paddleboards, etc. The amount they charged was ridiculous.

On the surface, this is a very nice facility...the rooms are a compact condo. There is a kitchenette, stacked washer/dryer very nicely appointed bathroom and a small patio. (we were in a 1 BR corner unit) There were a couple of factors that kept me from rating it higher. While it's on the water, the front of the building is on the main drag, US Rt. 31...CONSTANT traffic. Ingress/egress is a pain, and while out on the patio, the road noise drowns out the sound of water lapping to shore. As some of the other reviewers noted, they run a very tight ship. You do things their way, in a very prescribed manner. This is not a traditional hotel. It is priced like a high end JW Marriott, without the amenities or service. It's nice, but if we return to Traverse City, we would probably opt for one of the B&B's located at one of the wineries on the peninsula. (BTW, some of the wineries were beautiful and off the beaten trail.

We are a family of 5 with 3 young children so the rooms in the White Pine workout great for us. This is our 4th stay in the last 3 years.
The beach is very small filled with rocks, not very safe for young children. My 3 year old daughter fell on the rocks and cut her knee....but no care from the front desk when I asked for a bandage.
You are responsible for cleaning your room during your stay and before you leave. Upon checkout you have to have a checklist completed; empty all trash and take out to dump, put all dirty towels in a bag, load and start the dishwasher....just to name a few chores you have to do well on vacation.
Worst part is the customer service at the front desk. The "new" guy (as they call him) was extremely nice along with all the men at the front desk. There is an older women who is very rude and lacks customer service....not good to have at the front desk. Upon checkout we were set and my husband had already paid in full on the first day when we checked in, but she called us when we were having breakfast and said we underpaid $100.
My husband explained to her we have a receipt from checkout and he paid the amount noted but she insisted we drive back and pay the $100. My husband did go back and did pay but she had a completely different receipt that had a different amount. She claimed the "owners" need the money.
They just lost a lifetime customer.

We have stayed at several hotels in the Covid era this year. No other establishment has required us to take out our own trash or incur a $50 fine. Every other hotel still provided coffee in the room (Tamarack used to keep hot coffee available in their lounge, but no more, and no provisions in our room). For $500 (2 bedroom suite) per night we got shabby worn out furniture, worn out TV remotes, no coffee, and unfriendly front desk staff. We will be booking elsewhere in Traverse City in the future.

Poor soundproofing between adjoining rooms. I rarely leave reviews, but felt an obligation for others seeking an honest review. The party in the 2 bedroom suite that adjoined our 1 bedroom suite by a single door continued to talk at a loud volume and it was as if they were verbally in our room. We asked the front desk staff to ask the party in the adjoining rooms to not be so loud. The party in the adjoining suite continued to talk and communicate at a unusually high volume throughout the evening and also the next evening. The 2nd evening, I went to the front desk and asked to be moved to a different room because of the continued problem and the front desk staff kindly called management and explained the continued situation.
The management replied that we could be moved, but would have to pay an extra $50.00 cleaning fee, which I felt was unreasonable considering the situation and that we would not have been charged an extra $50.00 cleaning fee if we would have checked in for 1 night. My honest review will kindly share, that if you stay here, just plan on possibly verbally sharing a room with guest in the adjoining room or be inconsideratately charged a $50.00 fee by management to be moved to a different room.

We stayed in a two bedroom suite on the ground floor with walkout access to the lake and the terrace. We grilled our own steaks and had a lovely time! The place is absolutely gorgeous. We will be back again. The 1521 sq feet is plenty for two couples to enjoy without being crowded. The kitchen was fully stocked with all you could need.

I booked my reservation for Tamarack Lodge months in advance. I booked the nicest room, a corner balcony suite. When I arrived, they said all the balcony suites were filled and they only had one corner floor suite left. This room was awful. It faced the public beach access on the first floor. People kept walking by our window. There was no privacy. It did not face the beach. It was not a balcony room. It had a view of trash cans. There were no windows in the bedroom. And the worst point was the door that led outside to a small table and chair had a broken lock. The room was not secure until my husband worked for over an hour to fix the door lock.
When I asked to cancel because the room was not what I booked for $375, the front desk said I could cancel the second day but I had to pay the $375.00 for that day.
What a horrible experience. This was supposed to be the highlight of our vacation and it was NOT. Plus no coffee in the room, bring your own (there is a communal coffee station near housekeeping), there was no place to put your suitcases and the clothes closet was in the kitchen with the brooms and dust pan. You can hear sounds from the next room. Walls are thin. Beware!!!! I would look somewhere else!

Tamarack Lodge is 3 Miles (5 minutes max) east of downtown Traverse City and has beautiful beachfront views of East Grand Traverse Bay from every one of their 29 suites. Tasteful arts and crafts style architecture throughout. If you want to totally relax and enjoy yourself you will not be disappointed. We love it.
Tamarack is a wonderful venue however they do not have a restaurant and do not offer dinner. They do have a very nice bar area that provides some great snacks.
As the other writer said, there are numerous restaurants that you want to sample in Traverse City and one that I highly recommend is "Stella's". It is located in a former psychiatric treatment center that has been transformed into a Mall. The food is spectacular and the atmosphere truly charming. For breakfast try "Frenchies". Tamarack will give you the directions. Hope this helps.
No pets unfortunately.

Each room does have a balcony. The penthouse balconys are the BEST, because the White Pine Suite has access from bedroom and living room. I totally recommend this resort. It is AWESOME!
