We finally were able to get away for a kid-free escape after several years and wanted to be on the water. Upon researching hotels in the area, this place seemed like a great spot. Don’t be deceived like we were! When we arrived, we immediately noticed the trash-filled abandoned lots next to and across from the hotel. Then, we were given a one-page printout at check-in that listed the “changes” due to COVID. Why this wasn’t made apparent on the website, in our check in email or otherwise is so dishonest. We learned they were no longer offering cleaning service among other things. I am a Mom of four and the LAST thing I want to do on vacation is clean my own room. And, the prices did not reflect this “cut back” at over $300/night. When we entered our room - located on the third floor with really unstable steps and no elevator - the first thing we noticed were the smashed bugs all over the walls. No, not just one or a few, they were everywhere! It was like someone left a door open for a day and then had a smush fest - so gross. There was sand covering the floor, literal piles in some spots. Circle back to the non-existent cleaning service and you have a disgusting mess. The rooms have been “remodeled” but it’s definitely a lipstick-on-a-pig situation. The bathrooms are very outdated, mold-covered and it’s a bizarre layout with a tiny standup shower that’s kind of out in the open. Luckily my husband and I like each other, but would not recommend for groups. The tub, or “spa” as the website boasts, was dirty and very outdated. The towels were like sandpaper and we had to get our own in the lobby if we wanted clean ones. Our TV didn’t work, the patio furniture was busted, and the light in the main fixture flickered. We spoke to the front desk once and I swear she rolled her eyes at me - she probably heard about issues constantly because the place is a total dump. They also decided to fix some of the jenky stairs while we were there so we had the pleasure of hearing sledgehammers one entire day without any warning. The big selling point is the water view - and the view is beautiful - but the rooms also overlook the small pool filled with screaming kids (as expected) and are right off of a very busy road, so don’t expect peaceful sunset patio nights. We have traveled a lot and this was the first time we really felt duped. There are a lot of resorts along this strip that offer the views/private beaches so do your research before settling on this place.…
Nice, clean place to stay in a great location with great views and balconies. Plenty of parking, friendly staff, pool area is nice and the beach is manicured every morning. Definitely a place I would recommend.
Pointes North has a lot of potential. The location is good and the view from the balconies is awesome. The balcony added a great deal to our stay by being able to enjoy eating our breakfasts while overlooking the bay and then watching the sunset during the evening while enjoying a drink. The pool was also well maintained and provided another benefit to our overall stay. There is also a nice beach area which had very little usage due to the lake being so cold. There are quite a few chairs and a couple of fire pits, which I would recommend that the management move to the outskirts of the property as I would not have been happy trying to sit our on my balcony and smelling smoke. In fact, I would get rid of them during the spring and summer months so guests can enjoy keeping their patio door open without worrying about smoke entering the room. The employees we encountered were all very nice and helpful, from providing sightseeing info to assisting with additional requests. The breakfast selection was nothing special but seemed to offer enough to please most guests. There were breakfast bars, cereal, breakfast sandwiches that you could take back to your room and heat up, OJ, milk, yogurt, and some other options. The coffee was decent. The room was very comfortable. The king bed provided a very good nights sleep and despite the heavy traffic on the road in front of the hotel, we never heard the road noise in our room. We were on the third floor so I cannot comment as to whether you can hear footsteps from above, but we never once heard our neighbors through the walls. If you are looking for quiet, the west building is a better choice as it does not overlook the pool. As for potential, here are a few areas that management should focus on. But before reading this, take note that I would stay at PN again! These are recommendations for management to make a good hotel better. First, while our room was clean enough, we had to take some matters into our own hands. Anyone who has spent time by a lake knows of the flying gnats and larger flying insects that resemble mosquitos without the needle on their noses (I’ll call them gnats even though they are much bigger). You can’t avoid them. Our first night was almost ruined as our room was inundated with these flying insects. We had not kept the patio door open so that was not the issue. I discovered that the seal around the entry door and at the bottom of the door was in poor condition and the gnats were being drawn to the light coming from around and under the door. We killed at least several dozen by the light in our room. We then took notice to the many other dead bugs killed on the wall by previous guests (up until the evening we had not spent much time in the room). Housekeeping did not wipe these dead bugs off the wall so we did as I did not want to look at them for the remainder of our stay. I then pulled the nightstand away from the wall to kill a few more and noticed dozens of dead gnats behind the stand that had not been cleaned up for some time. Same thing around the corner of the patio door below where the blinds are when they are opened, and in the track of the patio door. Hundreds of dead gnats that had not been cleaned up for a long time. Fortunately they provide a broom in the room so I cleaned them up. I requested a towel from the front desk the next day and placed it at the bottom of the entry door and then leaned a chair against the door each night to force a better seal and we did not have a problem going forward. Our stay was very enjoyable from that point on. I would recommend that management consider replacing the blinds with room darkening blinds. Very early each morning our room was completely bright which woke us up. We would have preferred to sleep a bit longer than 6AM every morning. And the AC unit was very dirty both on the inside and outside. So, with some more thorough cleaning and some maintenance, I would have rated PN 5 stars. Had it not been for the views, beach area, and very helpful and friendly staff, I would have rated it lower. I recommend that management create a checklist of more obscure items to clean such as patio door track, walls, and AC unit to ensure it gets done on a periodic basis. Overall, despite these minor setbacks, I would stay here again.…
Just a great place. Very clean and there is a bike path really close that goes all the was into the city! There is also a nice micro brewery in walking distance. The beach was very clean and front desk staff was very nice to work with.
The staff was so attentive and helpful that it made our stay perfect! Room was spacious and clean. Private beach was fabulous and ducks were fun to watch. Private toilet was nice but be prepared that shower is separated by a curtain and knees are exposed.
Pointes North Resort deserves the highest rating in my opinion. The have beautiful oversized rooms with jacuzzis and balcony’s that overlook beautiful Grand Traverse bay. They are only minutes from all your favorite Traverse city attractions and you will be only steps away for their flawless beach complete with beach chairs and a fire pit. Not to mention the staff is great! I will always recommend them over any of the other hotels in the area.
The room was great, the view was breath taking. The front desk was commendable. All around greatttttt. experience. The people that were also on vaca were friendly and kind. It defiantly knocked me off my feet.
The best views and staff! Highly recommend! The location is absolutely beautiful! The room was so cozy! Nothing beats having a morning walk on the beach or coffee on the balcony. We can’t wait to come back!
The hotel was absolutely amazing. You can’t beat the beautiful view and the huge hotel rooms . We came with a group of couples and just loved the place. Roxy at the front desk was the best, she was so friendly and made our stay even better. We will definitely be back.
Our last stay the rooms weren't clean and we tried 2. This time the room was clean but it's in need of updating for sure! Old couch, chipped paint, rust on door, weatherstripping coming off. Just an overall feeling of old. We have been here many years but it has seen better days. Still a great location
