#8 of 20 B&Bs / Inns in Traverse City
The Grey Hare Inn Vineyard Bed and Breakfast is an elegant and quaint country estate located on Old Mission Peninsula in beautiful Traverse City Michigan. Surrounded by breathtaking vineyard, orchard and distant bay views, the Grey Hare Inn boasts an almost guaranteed peaceful getaway. Spend your day walking in the quiet hardwood forest (we recommend snowshoeing in the winter), or spend time basking in the gardens underneath Northern Michigan’s sunshine; with a glass of local wine, of course! If you’ve never played the French summertime classic “Bocce Ball”, now’s your chance: we have an entire court for it! In the evening, the Inn’s limestone fireplace is usually roaring, ready for those crackling late-night conversations or comforting reads. On a warm summer’s evening an outdoor fire-pit is typically ablaze underneath the sparkling Northern Michigan starry-night sky. Come and see what is "Pure Michigan". As of 2020, the Grey Hare Inn is now under new ownership. Please refer to our most updated photos and website for better room and breakfast descriptions.

My husband and I spent two nights in the Vineyard Room in mid-October and enjoyed every minute of it! From the large room with separate living area to relax in, to the comfy bed and amazing private patio we will definitely be back! The B and B offers a large outside patio as well and the views are amazing from all points. The breakfasts were delicious and the port and chocolate delivered nightly was such a treat! The Inn is easy to find and mid way between all the wineries and hiking areas that the peninsula has to offer. There are a few wineries within walking distance as well. Dinner reservations are a must with Covid and we also made reservations at the wineries to avoid wait times during this pandemic. We will definitely be back to enjoy this peaceful bed and breakfast!

We stayed here a year after our first stay. The inn is under new ownership and management, and Karlee (the new manager) has done a super job! We stayed in the same room as last year, and Karlee has updated some of the furnishings with good results. Her breakfasts are absolutely wonderful! The views from our room (the Barnwood Room) are amazing, too. They provide a fridge for guests' foods which was appreciated. Our only recommendation is to put a TV in the rooms. We are not avid TV watchers, but some events occurred while we were there that a TV would have been useful to have. The location is perfect for exploring Old Mission Peninsula, as well as going to Traverse City and visiting Leelanau Peninsula. We hope to return!

You turn off M37 onto a gravel road; perhaps wondering about the directions. Continuing over rolling hills, you soon come upon lavender fields, vineyards and orchards; then the Grey Hare Inn comes into view. The setting is serene and very much suggestive of the South of France or the hills of Tuscany. The inn’s three rooms are each different and beautifully appointed. We chose the Barn-Wood room on the upper level for its expansive views in three directions including part of the West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay; its sun room providing a pleasant start to the day with a coffee or tea. Our hosts, Karlee and Taylor were attentive and eager to help make our stay pleasant and memorable. We enjoyed gourmet breakfasts on the patio expertly prepared by Karlee, a trained and experienced pastry chef, who gladly accommodated any dietary restrictions. We enjoyed a personalized and informative vineyard tour with Taylor who tends to the vines. It’s an extra charge, and we highly recommend it. If you’re seeking a unique inn away from crowds where beauty, tranquility and quality are priorities, we highly recommend you consider the Grey Hare Inn. We truly enjoyed our stay and will be back.

Oh...where to start? My husband and I needed a change of scenery after being homebound since March. We didn't want to travel to a Covid hotspot, so after much research, we decided on two "quiet" places in Michigan, Harbor Springs and Traverse City. We love to stay in B&Bs and the Grey Hare is now at the top of our list of favorites! Karlee and Taylor are relatively new owners and you would never know it.....everything is PERFECT! From the minute Karlee and her adorable little 2-year-old Ezekiel met us at the door, we felt a sense of welcome and warm hospitality. The house is spacious, spotlessly clean, and beautiful. The location is wonderful; it is halfway up the peninsula and perfect for wine tasting and cherry picking. We truly felt like we were in Italy or southern France. Our room was lovely....furnished with the best linens and had stunning views of cherry orchards, lavender fields, and the lake in the distance! As if all of this isn't enough to make for a perfect stay, there is Karlee's gourmet (understated!) breakfast! She gives you a choice of two cooked-to-order hot entrees. All of her items are locally sourced and sooo fresh! We were swooning! And....she is a pastry chef, so in addition to the breakfast, she has a freshly baked item on the coffee bar every day. Need I say more??? We had the BEST time and can't wait to go back!

The Grey Hare Inn truly makes you feel as though you're escaping Michigan to a french chateau! Location is fabulous, near all of the mission wineries and the breakfast that the owners prepare each morning are delectable. All arrangements were comfortable & clean! Could possibly use a tad more comfortable beds but we made due! We had such a great time & would love to come back!

We are truly glad you enjoyed your stay with the amenities and ambiance provided at the Grey Hare Inn, and will look forward to your next visit. By its very definition "comfort" involves such an individual personalized interpretation that accurately quantifying what would provide "more" is difficult. However, in all of the inn's rooms we provide a variety of pillow consistency, and each room has a different level of bed firmness, to be able to accommodate a wide range of desires in order to try to accommodate as much as possible the wide variance of guests' preferences. Our most reasonably priced Garden room has the firmest mattress, with increasing mattress pillow top comfort in the Barnwood room and Vineyard Suite. The luxurious Jacuzzi bath Vineyard suite has a top of the line mattress that has different firmness in each of the 3 head to foot sections to provide the most comfortable support. If a guest can let us know in advance of any particular preferences in not only this but all areas of guest experience, we are always willing to make suggestions in order to provide a stay that exceeds all expectations.
