Our neighbors convinced us to join them at Crystal Mountain for a few days over the Labor Day weekend. We checked in at 12:05am and the lobby had gates over it and we were asked to use a phone to call for help (but I could hear people in the back talking). It took us an awkward 20 minutes to check in with hotel staff that was either high, drunk, or not competent enough to be working. It was an awful experience especially when I had never been here before. When it came to our room, it was beautiful with a mini-kitchenette, excessively large shower and changing area, and nice Murphy bed...but as well designed as it seemed, plugs for laptops and cell phones could NOT be found, making it hard for us tech-connected guests. What hotel has NO accessible outlets next to the nightstand or bed? In the morning, we wandered around the resort and realized this was less a “hotel/resort” than it was a timeshare property. It was nice, but if you didn’t have the Pure Michigan Package, you were nickeled and dimed for everything. We obviously didn’t come prepared because we didn’t bring food with us and food options were limited and expensive. The resort itself is beautiful, the kids loved it, and we had lots of fun on the Alpine Slide (don’t go too fast else you will flip and have bad burns and bruises!), we did zip lining and the ropes course and spent time at the pool. As for activities, the resort was great and we would return again (I will say, had we not purchased the Pure Michigan Package, we would have spent well over $1000 for two nights, minus food). As for food, we found the restaurants on site limited, over priced, and ok tasting, but nothing to write home about. The sad thing is there are NO other options outside of the resort, so you need to bring a grill and cook your own meals (something we didn’t know). The pizza was actually really good, and a great Gluten Free crust. The Thistle was only fair, very limited with options, and almost 2 hours for a group of 6 to eat in the summer when they weren’t crowded. Can’t imagine what it’s like in peak ski season! The Tomato place seemed more cost effective, but we never seemed to time it there when it was open. That’s what really got us with restaurants here...they had odd schedules and would close for meals leaving you with limited options. The Waffle Hut is closed on Fridays (who closes on a Friday?!?) And when we planned to have Moomers Ice Cream there Sat afternoon and they were closed in the afternoon. (The calendar said they opened at noon on Sat...are they open from 12-3?!?) We couldn’t figure out the schedules of what was open when, and it became frustrating because there aren’t other options off Resort that are close. Needless to say, we left without Moomers. In all, our family had a lot of fun, and if we decide to return, we know to make sure we purchase the Pure Michigan Package so that most everything is included in the price, we know to bring our own food and a grill (as to not rely on limited fare at restaurants), and possibly rent a larger cabin and stay with our friends we met up with, in the hopes of saving a little money. The staff (aside from the horrible check in experience) all seemed really friendly and helpful and accommodating, and it would make us want to consider coming again.

Crystal Mountain is Pure Michigan. The whole resort is top notch. The staff at all the restaurants, the store and front desk are wonderful. The bar staff at the Thistle will make you excellent drinks and provide great conversation. Crystal I will visit again!

We were very impressed by this resort and cannot stop talking about coming back. The grounds were gorgeous and everyone was so nice. The kids loved swimming and the activities such as rock climbing, alpine slide and adventure course. I recommend buying tickets when booking room. The room was cute and cozy. We brought our food and next time would stay in a room with a bigger kitchen.

Only had a couple issues. I don’t know who’s idea it is to make the beds so the top sheet only comes up to your waist, but most people want the sheet to cover your shoulders, and when you try to pull it you unmake the whole bed. Stayed 4 nights this past week and the indoor hot tub wasn’t working the whole time. Other than that, it’s a great place to stay.

On a road trip in Michigan . Thought it looked cute and quaint place . Arrived after dark ... checked in after a 15 min wait . Couldn’t find cabin as we had expected . No lit up clear numbers to help anywhere in sight . Had to get out of car and walk to find not a cabin , but a tiny cramped room up steps. Noisy window A/C. Queen not a king as expected . No ice machine anywhere close . Honestly felt we would have done better in a motel, and certainly less expensive . No breakfast of course, either. Big disappointment . Wouldn’t bother coming back unless planning on staying a few days as the place looked quite nice outside of the tiny room !
