Hotel Riu Negril enjoys high marks for its diverse dining options, pristine beach amenities, and sparkling pools, with many guests appreciating the added perk of in-room beverages. The staff is often celebrated for their dedication and warmth, although there have been occasional mentions of service mishaps. Room comfort is recognized, particularly for their cleanliness and size, but some guests feel the decor could use an update and note noise as a drawback.
The hotel's location is a standout feature, offering easy access to beachside bliss and picturesque views. While cleanliness across the hotel generally receives applause, a handful of visitors have encountered isolated issues. Opinions on value and atmosphere are split; some guests commend the affordability of onsite activities, while others point out unexpected costs and a lack of vibrant entertainment options.

We had an amazing time at Riu Negril for New Year’s week. We stayed in an oceanfront room in Block 1 on the second floor, which was perfect for us. The balcony offered stunning sunset views and it was just a short walk to the lobby, restaurants, and beach.
The bed was comfortable, and the fridge was stocked every other day. There were plenty of dining options, and the allergen signs at each station were very helpful. While the buffet, Mandalay Asian restaurant, and the sports bar were walk-in, the Italian, Steakhouse, and Gourmet restaurants required reservations, which we made easily via the RIU app.
For necessities, there’s a small strip mall and supermarket nearby. We only picked up some local bulla gingerbread cakes but didn’t feel the need for much else. The spa and gym are conveniently located near the lobby. We had a couples’ deep tissue massage and were very happy with the service.
The beach was clean, with a bar right in front of Block 1 and plenty of lounge chairs. The water was crystal clear, and while there’s some seagrass, I didn’t need water shoes. Do note that there are sand gnats, so plan accordingly.
Outside the resort, we had a great time exploring. The locals were welcoming, and having a rental car made it easy to get around. However, driving was a bit challenging. Traffic is right-hand drive, and the roads have a lot of deep potholes—we blew a tire within 20 minutes of leaving Montego Bay airport. If you need a replacement, the Tire Warehouse in Savannah la Mar is your best bet. Traffic in Negril and Lucea can also be heavy, so plan extra time.
We visited Rick’s Cafe, which was fun for cliff jumping, though the food was just okay. It felt a bit overpriced as a tourist attraction. For snorkeling, we booked with OneLove Scuba since the resort’s ScubaCaribe was fully booked. Captain David and his team were fantastic—friendly, reasonably priced, and very accommodating. While we couldn’t dive due to medical reasons, the snorkeling experience was excellent, and we’ll definitely book with them again.
The resort’s entertainment was lively, with nightly shows and parties. The Neon Party (Thursdays) and White Party (Sundays) were highlights, and the New Year’s Eve celebration was a blast. Down the beach, there are blue souvenir tents—bring cash as they don’t accept credit cards, and prices are listed in USD.
Overall, we were thrilled with our stay.

Just returned from the most amazing family holiday at Riu Negril. 16 Family members came from Texas and London for reunion with my dad.
Akela gave us a lovely welcome, even changed my dad's room so that we could all be in the same block.
This is a nice Hotel . Rooms are spacious and clean with AC . Nice well kept grounds. Nice beach. The entertainment team were excellent and provided 1st class shows and performances. Must single out Chin as she made an effort to get to know the family she actually remembered all of our names and was super lively. The food was very good and tasty, so much choice. There is something for all palates. They did the right thing of bringing in the pre bookin system for the speciality restaurants, as it works very well. The steak house was lovely as was the Mandalay Asian restaurant. The restaurant staff always on point and did their jobs well. Must single out Chad the manager who always looked after us and got us tables together. Heaven, Flora Lee Ronaldo have a lovely attitude when serving guests. The housekeeping staff were good.
Please do not hesitate to book this hotel. All my family say they loved it and will be back. Thank you Riu Negril for a pleasant stay. I know you get mixed reviews but in my experience it was nice. I couldn't fault the hotel. Well done

The resort grounds are well-maintained, and the rooms are clean. Room cabinet was stocked with liquor and frig stocked with assorted soft drinks, water and mixers. Restocked every 2 days. Only complaint here it that the ice machine, 2 located in our #3 block, never had ice. Although I ran into a nice employee who took my bucket and got me some ice. Block #3 is a long way from the front desk, restaurants and most activities and there are no elevators. Unless you like walking, book Block #1/#2. We also had a problem with our key losing the charge so that meant another long walk to the front desk to get it recharged. Don't take a lot of clothes or towels, it's just not needed. You are provided a towel card, take it to the pool area, obtain your towel, when finished return the towel and retain your card to get a clean towel for next time. Bring insect repellent and sunscreen and use it!! Also, make sure to bring your supply of toiletries or necessities as the on-resort stores are expensive. There is no ATM, the on- resort stores accept Cards, but if you want to buy gifts, ciggies, activities or anything else from the locals, you need cash. Cash is needed to pay for activities like the glass bottom book, couch, and kayak. We booked the glass bottom boat, we got off the boat and played in the sea (life jackets are provided), and then navigated to an island were we freshly prepared lobster and shrimp. The trip was about 2 hours $40 per person and the lobster of choice and shrimp was $40/$35 respectively. You can take a taxi off resort to an ATM, the taxi ran us $20 for 2 people round trip. Talk to your driver though, the person who obtained the taxi for us quoted $20 per person; you can pay driver directly or the person who obtained the taxi. Cocktails and drinks are free and served at the pool and on the beach as well as bars around the main pavilion. The employees are friendly. The food choices are extensive, with a variety of everything, meats, salads, breads, and desserts!! And the entertainment crew was awesome, kudos to them for putting on great nightly shows. They mingle through the resort goers on a daily basis, encouraging attendance and just having good conversations. Overall, the trip was lovely, and I highly recommend this resort especially for families.

This was our 7th visit to this Riu. The renovations are beautiful but we still prefer the beach and the ocean. Yes, the ocean has sea grass and rocks but because of that we can snorkel right off the beach. There is so much to see and it draws me back each year. This year there were so many chairs there was no need to put out towels to save your seat. They have added fresh sand to the beach so it was softer to walk on. Service at the beach bar was not like it used to be. Every time my husband went up to order they screwed up his order so we just stopped drinking at the beach (our liver thanks us) The staff are friendly and helpful. The newer staff, although efficient don't make that extra effort to make you feel like this is your home away from home. Hopefully they pick up some tips from the seasoned staff. We were upgraded to an ocean front room which was very, very kind but I honestly prefer the garden view, it's more private and quiet. The rooms are spacious, the bed is comfortable, Hot water was a hit or miss depending on what time of day you chose to shower. First thing in the morning was great, later in the day we had 2 times in 14 days where we had a cold shower. The air conditioning in our room was very loud, which after some miscommunication on our part, we chose to put up with. The cleaning staff was mediocre. She took the dirty towels but didn't leave clean ones, took dirty dishes and didn't replace them. But the bed was always made and the toilet was always cleaned. The rest of the hotel, We found the specialty restaurants have improved their service. The food was absolutely delicious. The buffets were scaled down from previous years but still had plenty to choose from and I could still make huge salads when I chose to do so. The Pool Bar has definitely improved. We tried the chicken wings and nachos and they were delicious. The morning staff made us wonderful cappuccinos. Yaniek at the main lobby bar makes the absolute BEST cappuccino!! We go to this resort to rest, relax and rejuvenate and after a friendly chat with the entertainment staff they left us alone except for friendly hello's. Not everyone comes to Jamaica to party lol. I'm sure the entertainment team does a wonderful job, just not what we needed. Talking about the entertainment team, although we never used the main pools they looked wonderful and people seemed to enjoy them. We did use the pool by building 2 a few times and it was quiet and relaxing

The staff are 5 stars, all extremely friendly, even if you don't tip! We stayed in the last room of all, 4224, a good 10 minutes walk to the central part of the resort which was no problem for us. It is more isolated from the noise of other tourists, but it is closer to the road and you can hear cars a lot. Double glazing and more opaque curtains were needed, as the sun rises at 6:30 am and at that time, with the existing curtains, there is plenty of light in the room. There is a mini bar in the room with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks replenished every day. The maids who provide room service seem to be very attentive to special requests such as extra pillows and blankets requested via the app and the cleanliness is 5 stars both in the room and throughout the resort. Good beach for snorkeling with lots of corals and lots of fish. But the beach itself is not the best, the water is murky, there is a lot of sea grass and the sand itself looks like mud. Hot water. We went to the Riu Palace beach several times, which was much better for this purpose. Swimming pools with hot water, mention for the adult pool with bar, spectacular and where there is much of the entertainment Excellent food and good variety for 8 days. Drinks are also well served and with a varied menu. Wines in restaurants are good, especially rose. The real soul of this resort is the animation team, they are very hardworking and unstoppable. Always friendly, livening up the hotel and offering good and varied shows at night. The bay itself is safe to walk around, there are several resorts and lots of tourists walking around. There are several people selling weed and other things, although friendly, they are tiring due to their daily presence and daily approaches, including on the resort's beach. Quite a negative point for those who want to be peaceful and enjoy the sun and rest. Transfer included at the hotel, terrible roads and about 3 hours between the hotel and the airport. It depends on traffic and time of day. Also very negative point. The transfer company never seems to know anything. Confirm the transfer time and data previously provided several times. Somewhat old and unsafe vans. There is also a van 7 miles from Margarita Village that takes you to see this beach for free, every day in the lobby from 11:30 am to 4 pm. Good experience. There are several sports that we can do, including kayaking or pedal boating. To go snorkeling, they asked for around 20 euros each as a deposit, which seemed exaggerated since we didn't carry large amounts of cash. We can book several excursions in the hotel sign area with different companies, all costing around 100 euros. Overall a good resort in a very interesting destination.

We were 4 adults and 3 girls between 4 and 7 years old. 9 nights.
The hotrl rs quite small to be resort, what is good is that the distances are short.
Excellent hotel service, cleanliness, amabilidd.
The food is very good in the buffets, the specialty restarants we did not like much. Mandalay, Asian is buffet x first come, very very good.
Excellent animation team, great fun. Even with us who spoke English they gave us more or less talk, they gave us desire.
While you can solve everything without English in some way, managing the language gives you other injection possibilities. Nobody speaks Spanish.
We didn’t go to the kids club because the girls don’t speak English, so they offered to use the cell phone with google translate. There's goodwill from the staff.
They're good bartenders, the quality of half-baked alcohol.
The beach of the hotel for children boys is ideal, quiet, has fish, stars, stingrays. There were a few banks of algae half annoying, we were told that since June there are no. The seabed in some areas is soft. There's a reef in front of a lifeguard stand, to snorkel this good. The riu palace has a 100% sandy beach and clearer waters, depends on one if it is worth paying the difference in price. You can walk to the ptra beach and bathe without much effort.
You can kayak, gopher, boat and stand on board since the beach is Teanqui. It's free.
On the shore trees there are marijuana vendors and walks all day. They're not bothersome.
We took a ride in a glass-bottomed boat, to snorkel. Sea Shell's name is, good vibes Captain, left us plenty of time snorkeling. We took a catamaran ride to the ricks cafe, it's nice the ride.

Our stay at RIU Negril was an incredible experience! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and excellent service. The resort’s beautiful beachfront location and well-maintained facilities provided the perfect setting for a memorable vacation. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-equipped with all the essentials for a comfortable stay. Housekeeping ensured everything was spotless and replenished daily.
We truly enjoyed the dining options, with a great variety of delicious local and international dishes. The staff at the restaurants were attentive and always ready to accommodate our needs. Walking along the pristine beach, enjoying the breathtaking views and gentle ocean breeze, was one of the highlights of our trip. The serene atmosphere made it a perfect place to unwind and soak in the beauty of Negril.
The staff's friendliness and commitment to exceptional service made our stay even more enjoyable. RIU Negril exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend it for a relaxing and unforgettable beach vacation in Jamaica.

Everything was perfect- the price, the entertainment, midday activities, nightly entertainment, hosts, room (i reserved a suite), location, arranging excursions, security etc etc. The only thing i would say is PLEASE fumigate often or clean the pipelines-drains-plumbing. There were so many gnats and fruit flies hovering around the food and bars.

Hello, the hotel maintains the standard of the RIU chain, we have stayed in others and the truth is that this one is not far behind.
I must say that I had my apprehensions since there were not many reviews in Spanish of the hotel and because of the little information there was, one of the fears is that there were no Spanish-speaking staff according to what other travelers expressed.
To begin, we would like to highlight the quick attention at check-in, to which was added the attention of Marvin, who, luckily for us, spoke perfect Spanish and was always willing to support us in communication issues throughout the trip.
Highlight the cleaning service in the rooms, which was always optimal and you could count on the rooms being ready at an early hour.
The restaurants are all good, the themed ones have good preparations and their menus are quite varied. Perhaps an issue to review is access to reservations since it must be done through the application and the Wi-Fi signal is not good everywhere, where it worked best was in the room.
The beaches are always clean and with lounge chairs available, although there are some areas with algae, there are sectors of crystal clear water where you can swim without problems. In the bar on the beach the service could be improved, the drinks were of lower quality than in the other bars and the staff was not always friendly.
Perhaps an issue to review are the shows at night, although the few that were there were good, there were not every day and there were few instances to dance.
Finally, we would like to highlight the kindness of the staff in the restaurants and bars, despite the language barrier, they always had the willingness to serve in the best way, including Oneil in the bar and Roxaine in the restaurants, both of them do not speak Spanish but they had the Patience in trying to understand each other and make us have a pleasant time.

We have just spent 2 weeks here and overall I would say it's a fantastic place to stay. The rooms are large and clean, in room mini bar regularly topped up. The maid did a fantastic job cleaning our room and making the beds when we had a small with the toilet flushing, we reported it on the riu app and it was fixed within a couple of hours. The food is varied and we always found something good to eat in the buffet. The Italian restaurant had great steak. The location is right on the beach, there is some sea grass, so bring water shoes to avoid stepping on a sea urchin, the plus side of this is there is good snorkeling right off the beach. There are Sups, and hobbie cats for no charge on the beach, which we enjoyed. We saw small sharks, large Ray's, and thousands of fish from the beach The staff are super friendly, they do appreciate a tip here and there. The entertainment was great and varied, professional level dancers and musicians! There are a few 1 star reviews, and the only explanation I can think of is that their unrealistic expectations were not met. If you are looking to be waited on hand and foot, with Michelin star dining, then spend twice as much and you will be happy. If like us you live in the real world then come here as it's fantastic, and value for money. We are sad to be leaving, but had an amazing time.
