Detailed Reviews
Room doesn't make a great first impression (I think decor is the culprit, because you walk into your room from the nicely carpeted hallway onto some sort of laminate [hardwood-like] floor). So especially entering at night, the first impression is drab.
But, the room grew on me. Furnishings are nice, there's an attractive sofa in the room, lamps, etc. are stylish. Only two issues that popped out at me are, for whatever reason, the closet is an open space (no doors, and I don't think I've ever seen that in a Marriott brand hotel) and the bed frame was a padded vinyl that would have been fine, but was beaten up noticeably on one corner.
The positives, which seemed incongruous with the rest of the room but were most welcome were: bathroom was first rate, looked freshly remodeled, bed was spotless, computer desk space was also great, as were bedside tables with ample A/C plugs. Lighting also very good in both the bathroom and the room itself.
So they prioritized a traveler's ability to work and charge in the room, but distracted from the visual appeal with the flooring, worn bedframe and odd closet space. So for functionality, it gets an A, the rest, not so much.

Let’s start with the good stuff.
1. It’s not the really bad Courtyard directly next door.
2. Front desk staff was amazing.
3 . My room was clean and updated. Best room I have stayed in , in a Marriott for months.
4 concierge area for breakfast - bacon and sausage!! Nice.
Bad
1. Concierge area for happy hour and Dessert. The staff put out some white chocolate brownies but left the freshly delivered Blondie chocolate chip brownies on card even when i asked.
2 my co-writer was hassled over wanting milk before bed. The milk was in the cooler with the Water and the soda pop. When he took some he was told he couldn’t have it because it was for the morning. He basically had to Tell the staff member “stop me “
Over 900 Marriott stays and no one hassled him for 2 cafeteria milk cartons.
Day two the worker locked the cooler door. He asked to speak to the Manager when the staff Member said it was the “rules”. Manager proceeded to say there were no such rules and my buddy got his 2 milks so he
Could sleep. Just silly.

I have been staying here, from time to time, for over 10 years. Great beds, very comfortable chairs in the room, nice views from the higher rooms. I also find this very convenient for getting around Oakland county and most of Detroit. It is right where 696 and 10 meet, so it gives you very good access to get into the city or to go across town. We were there for a Tiger game, it's about 20 minutes from there to the stadium.
There were a couple of things that were potential issues. This was still at the tail end of the Covid restrictions, so some of this may have changed. The restaurant and bar are not open early in the week. Also, they are very short on staff. The staff told me they don't have the staff to service all the rooms, so they are limiting capacity. (I did not ask how much they have cutback, but I got the impression it was considerable).
I will definitely return when I am in this area again.

Well I have stayed at this Marriot quite a bit before. However, I wasnt a guest here on this last trip. My company booked me at the courtyard next door for the first time. I wasnt impressed so I walked nextdoor for what I remember on my last trip was a really good burger. At Southfield Marriott Even though I had not been there in over a year, the bartender Jenny remembered my name from last year. What my drink was, that I promised to try the steak and fries dish the next time i was in, (I tried them that night superb!) and that I had multiple dogs. Just Wow! This is why I would prefer this hotel. The staff was great, food was great, and the bartender Jenny had a great sense of humor and warmth that I remember. Also the rooms at this location are perfect if you have allergies because the floors are porcelain and well kept. I will be making sure my company books my stay here next time when available, There is also a pool I have not gotten a chance to try but their pool looked very clean. There is no Jacuzzi but not a big deal considering everything else

First, I visit Detroit twice a month and this is my go-to hotel. The staff is very friendly and welcome me like family when I check-in or they see me around the hotel. One staff member, Laela, has been extremely helpful and one of the reasons I keep coming back! I often work late and she is very helpful in making sure I know when the restaurant will stop serving food, helpful with receipts, and is just a great person to talk to while I'm on the road.
Also, the restaurant inside the hotel has great food options for any diet with great prices at a great value. If you're traveling to Detroit/ Southfield, I'd defintiely recommend this hotel and/ or restaurant.

I’ve been staying here for years because of Barbara in Executive Lounge. She’s really fantastic and treats everyone like a friend. The rooms are comfortable and bathroom sink seems to have hot water on demand. Definitely recommended if you’re staying in Southfield.

Attendant was super friendly and room was well maintained. Worked in the room for a few hours and the attendant anticipated my needs perfectly (food, water, etc.) One of the more friendly hotel staff members I’ve interacted with at Marriott

They have the best staff! From the friendly front desk to lovely Ms. Barbra in the concierge lounge, we always feel so welcome, taken care of and not so far from home. Their evening reception and dessert are so good. And breakfast never disappoints. They also respond quickly to any repair or towel requests.

Hotel property was clean and well maintained. Room and bed were comfortable. The highlight of this Marriott was the Concierge Lounge food and hospitality. Special recognition for Ms. Barbara Gee hosting the evening hours at the Concierge who is always friendly and making sure we had everything we needed. Even overheard her offer to take dessert to a guest’s room.

We checked in to our first room which had stains on the sheets so we called the front desk who gave us new sheets - which we were to do ourselves because they don’t have housekeeping at night (9:30 pm). Upon stripping the bed, we found a tattered plastic mattress cover and even bits of FOOD on the mattress itself. We obviously asked to switch rooms at that point. Our new room was better but the sheets still had holes in them and there was hair in the shower. I have been to many Marriott hotels over the years - this is far and away the worst state I have seen a room at this chain.
