Detailed Reviews
We stayed in the Harbor room for one night. The staff was quite pleasant and check in was easy with Hand sanitizer for use near items you may touch (door handle, ice machine). Our room was clean and well stocked with snacks and coffee (they seemed to have updated to adult snacks from previous comments I saw) along with nice bath products and robes. Located on the second floor, there was a good view of the lake and I’m not sure how many guests were there that night, but the hallway noise level was minimal.
Both the shower and tub were amazing! There were no issues with hot water. The fireplace put out good heat and the bedding was so soft and luxurious. I may have to get a set of those sheets for my own bed!! Breakfast came at the time we requested and it was a bit cold, but nothing the microwave in our room couldn’t take care of 😉
The town center was a short and easy 10-15 minute walk, with many cute shops still open and ready for your business.
We would definitely stay here again!

We had a lovely time at Hotel Saugatuck! The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are very clean and stocked with many amenities. Each room has a fireplace and jetted tub, mini fridge, microwave, plates, utensils and glasses. Delicious brownies were delivered to our room in the evening and breakfast was delivered to our room at our convenience in the morning. The staff was amazing and it was a fantastic trip!!

Having never stayed in Saugatuck before, we "randomly" decided to pick this hotel because of the pictures and location. The price was a little high, but we don't mind spending more money on a nicer place. It was very lovely. Closer to town than we thought (walking distance) and just on the outside edge of the beautiful neighborhood. Although there was not a lot of interaction with staff members, they were friendly and attentive through text messaging, which was nice.
The room location of the hotel and the room itself were great. It was super clean. Small, but very functional and had everything you could need. The bed was SUPER comfortable (and big) and the shower and tub were amazing. Super nice touch with the daily desserts being delivered to your door as well as breakfast in the morning. I saw another person who commented on the hotel just placing food at your door, where we had a choice of three different options upon check-in.
I would highly recommend this hotel and plan to stay here again in the future.

This was a birthday celebration for my husband. Our first time staying at a bed & breakfast so going into this we didn't know what to expect. We get to the room get told about breakfast and dessert times and the trays outside the door. We noticed immediately it was cold so we cracked up the heat to 73 from 65 and turn both fireplaces on and leave to get our bags get dinner and we got back a little around 6pm. The shower had a annoying noise when you turn the hot on came and went. We noticed the front room over looking the water was extremely cold and decided not to sit and enjoy the sunset cause there were 2 bad windows that could probably be replaced soon. By 10:30pm the guests above us finally settled down it sounded like they were playing musical chairs , so loud and glad they stopped and went to bed. Around 6am I got up for some water and it decreased the temperature in our room to 65 again and the blue light on the fireplace would have kept us up so I didn't bother put it on. We had brought an extra king size blanket incase we were told the comforters don't get washed everytime but we were told they do everytime. I have years of working in the hotel industry and not many hotels do so couldn't hurt to ask. So we slept ok the mattress wasn't the best but whatever. Our breakfast came and I had the egg and bacon sandwich and coffee. Coffee was so good the amount of cream and sugar that was given was all perfect. I took all the sheets off the bed and gathered all the towels we used in the huge tub as common courtesy and it can help a maid for a little work they don't have to do. As a L.M.T I'm use to helping in that kind way. We left our room and I believe we meet one of the owners not sure she didn't say her name. We told her and she apologized first and said the girl that checked us in should have told us they have already started running the air for the season and we that we should have asked for blankets and kept the fireplaces on all night. They're mistake that they never told us so our sleep sucks temp. wise. So other then a few minor complaints on the room and not being told about the air being on already in the season. We would maybe stay here if some updates would be changed in the future otherwise we could stay somewhere else with better communication for that high of a nightly stay fee. Best wishes to that !

Thank you for providing feedback regarding your stay. March in Michigan is a difficult time to find a comfortable temperature for a very large building. It is typically conveyed at check in what setting the heating and cooling system is set to for your convenience, however we apologize if this was misunderstood at your arrival. We pride ourselves here on our communication and availability to our guests as we are always available for any concern or question. The managers live next door, the assistant manager lives in the building and we are always available via texting and calling or at the front office directly. We heavily emphasize this at check in and even prior to guest arrival. Unfortunately if guest concerns are not mentioned at all throughout their stay, we are unavailable to assist or correct anything to their preferences. We would've happily switched the system over had it been mentioned. We also regularly offer extra blankets at request. We are disappointed that your stay wasn't everything you hoped for and wish you had communicated any noise, temperature or other discomfort complaints during your stay so that it could've been corrected. We do have the windows scheduled for replacement in your room along with several other upgrades across the property. We hope that you can stay with us again in the future and take advantage of the excellent customer service that we offer. It was certainly our pleasure to host you.

My boyfriend and I wanted a few days away to relax, we were recommended to check out Saugatuck. We found this hotel on line and booked a 3 night stay. We never mind spending good money for a hotel we paid 359.00 a night which includes breakfast and dessert each day. We loved the how cozy and clean the room was with a nice shower and the room has a mini fridge and microwave and coffee maker! The breakfast was decent but we felt for the value the portions could have been better. You received two choices each morning a sweet choice and a non sweet. We each ordered an omelette one morning... that’s all you got. We wish there would have been English muffin or even hash browns or fruit cup... in a addition to just the omelette with a pieces of tomato. I guess we like the room and adults only property but wish we received more for our money.

Thank you for your kind words. We love when guests use words like "cozy and clean" to describe us. We are disappointed to hear that you didn't like the complimentary breakfast you selected. Guests rave about our gourmet breakfasts and homemade desserts. Sometimes we get a bit overwhelmed in our busy season by guests requesting various recipes. In fact, we just posted one of our most requested recipes to our website. Upon arrival, guests have the opportunity to chose from 3 different breakfast options each day and delivered to their room at a time that they selected. Our couples that enjoy a romantic getaway love the privacy of our rooms and many of the amenities that you mentioned. We hope you enjoyed your visit to Saugatuck and all the great things our town provides.

The Hotel Saugatuck is the best of the B&B world: beautiful rooms, great breakfasts, snacks, dessert, and no need to socialize!
We visited for three nights and stayed in the Sandpiper Room. It was just the cozy refuge we needed for a break from real-life. The room features an additional sitting room with a fireplace (which was necessary...completely frigid without this weekend!) and comfortable rockers. Inside the main bedroom, there was another fireplace that provided great ambiance.
The breakfast entrees were delicious and gourmet: breakfast salad with poached egg, fruit, bacon; egg salad bruschetta with a tomato and balsamic glaze; baked oatmeal; eggs benedict. The nightly desserts, while sometimes store-bought, were delicious. Our favorite was the salted caramel mousse.
The shower was amazing, and who doesn't love a warm soak in a jetted tub? The room had other amenities that you'd want or expect, including a Keurig, a mini-fridge, microwave, plates, cups, wine opener, robes, etc.
One drawback was that the door to the main hallway let in a significant amount of light, but hanging a robe from the moulding above the door helped. Be aware that you will also be able to hear the guests above walking around, using their tub, or moving chairs. But it's easy to ignore.
Overall, this was a great location, property, and retreat. We'll be back someday for sure!

This place is perfect. The inn keepers text you upon arrival and you can text them with any questions. Response is immediate. The breakfast delivered to your room was amazing every morning and the sweet treat at night was nice as well. It is maybe a a half mile or so walk to downtown but we enjoyed it and did it several times. We ate at Bowdies Chophouse which is phenomenal (reservations needed), Marro’s, the Mermaid, the Butler and the Barge. The Barge and the Mermaid are on the water and would highly recommend. One of our favorite things that we did was the Retro boat rental and we alsoenjoyed the walk to and along the beach in Saugatuck Dunes state park. Overall an amazing weekend and will only stay at Hotel Saugatuck when we come back!

Let me start with saying this is a romantic, refreshing getaway! Go here to escape life! The daily breakfasts are delivered to your door with a subtle knock. Your tray contains everything you need for an enjoyable breakfast. The cinnamon roll french toast and blueberry pancakes were excellent. Nice carafe of coffee served good and hot. Refrigerator, keurig and microwave in the room were great for cool drinks and reheating leftovers. We stayed in Sweet Gale, a small cottage. Location was perfect for us, very walkable. About a 10 minute neighborhood stroll into town. We also used the free bikes to go further into nearby Douglas. Just across the street from the harbor where you can watch a stunning sunset.
This was a great experience, even during COVID. The only amenity I missed was daily housekeeping, but they had a responsive system if we needed anything.

We recently spent three nights at the Hotel Saugatuck. We LOVED the Saugatuck area. However, we were very dissatisfied with our experience at the Hotel Saugatuck.
The breakfast was excellent, delicious, and prompt, and the hotel location was perfect.
That's where the positives end. There is a disconnect between the hotel cost, its website, and our first-hand experience. If you are considering the Lakeshore Room be aware that while you have a lake view, you are looking at the lake from across a highway. The website photos don't do a good job of depicting this. Also, be aware that this room is VERY NOISY. We heard the ice machine, people walking and talking above us, doors slamming day and night. The noise level made it impossible to sleep well or to relax genuinely.
During our three-night stay, we asked for housekeeping once, and it was done half-ass with entire areas of the room not cleaned. The cushions on the porch are dirty, the bath towels are small and old, and there are no drawers or closets. The mirror/light in the bathroom is not functional. None of these things are acceptable when spending $200 a night, let alone more than $500 a night!
We travel extensively. In most (99 percent) cases, we truthfully can offer an "excellent" review on Trip Advisor for our stays.
This is not the case with Hotel Saugatuck.
When I reached out to the Hotel after our stay, they chastised me for not talking to them while we were there. What? The problems stated are not easy fixes; they are the same problems others have identified in reviews that the INN has chosen not to address. Lesson learned, read all TA reviews thoroughly.

My wife and I spent our 6th wedding anniversary at The Hotel Saugatuck, July 23-26 2020. The inn keepers, Joshua and Amy, did a fantastic job and treated us like family. We stayed in a very clean, comfortable, quiet, and romantic cabin room. We were served a good breakfast of our choice every morning and a delicious dessert in the evenings. This hotel is less than a mile from downtown Saugatuck and a few minutes from Opal Beach and Saugatuck Dunes State Park. Consider taking a 90 minute boat tour of Lake Kalamazoo, the Kalamazoo River, and Lake Michigan on the “Star Of Saugatuck” during your visit.
