Please note that we are no longer pet friendly as of 2022! We are a small mom & pop motel. Due to our size, this allows us to get to know our customers and build relationships with them. Quiet park-like setting with fire-pit, picnic tables and a large yard area for enjoying the summer weather. Continental breakfast included. Centrally located and set 1 mile outside of downtown Saugatuck and Douglas. Dune rides, Oval Beach and all the restaurants and shopping one could ask for are all easily traveled to from our location. Again, please note that we are no longer pet friendly as of 2022.

Detailed Reviews
Returned for our 3rd year in a row and still love it!
The (2) double queen room is perfect for families with kids, our 7 and 9 year old love the simple self-serve breakfast with an assortment of light breakfast items.
Extremely clean and affordable with a relaxing, well-maintained outside area. Owners are friendly in person and on phone. We didn't have a chance to use the fire-pit or grill since since there's so much to do between Saugatuck and Holland!
We absolutely love returning from a long day on the beach or shopping to a clean, quiet, air conditioned room with cable and flat TV. The beds/bedding and pillows are very comfortable.
Already looking forward to our next visit!

To be honest I was a little apprehensive about staying at a roadside motel but read the reviews and booked 3 nights. First word that comes to mind is CLEAN. This is a charming 14 room motel run by a husband and wife who put so much attention into making your experience a positive one. It’s not fancy but is a nice affordable place to stay if just passing thru or staying multiple nights to explore everything Saugatuck as to offer. The rooms are VERY CLEAN as was the bathroom. The place is kept in tip top shape. Not what you would expect from a roadside motel. I would stay here again without hesitation. It sure beats the chain hotels on cleanliness and attitude. It’s a small business being run by two personable hard working people who are doing a fantastic job for their guests. Staying here means you are buying local not corporate. I’m pretty picky and this passed my test for motels/hotels. Keep up the good work!

While needing only a one night stay, Cody reached out to me via phone to see If I still was interested in a singe Saturday night stay. I said YES and he quickly booked me! This drive up motel makes parking and unloading/loading your luggage to/from your room easy as pie! Everything is spotless, very clean, and well organized. There is a quaint back strip of grass to sit down at a few places and enjoy the shade of the beautiful old growth trees. There is a firepit that we were invited to join some newly acquainted neighbors, but we politely told them no thank you, as we just needed to hit the sack! Though the room was a tad small, again very clean and well stocked. Breakfast was good with delicious, strong Coffee and lots of continental breakfast choices. The extremely quiet location was priced at or below neighboring hotels and the location to downtown was very close. Thank you to Cody and Crystal who were both very hospitable and accommodating! Imagine...”a motel accommodation being accommodating!” We’ll definitely swing by next time! Peace from Indianapolis, IN.

My wife and I wanted to organize our trip around new puppy (4 months) and find a dog friendly area where we could do a lot of things with her. Starting with a place to stay that is walking distance to other places. The Captains Quarters checked every box for us! The rooms were unbelievably clean, there were no stones (so to speak) left unturned. Sanitary and cleanliness is of top priority there. The staff is extremely friendly and responsive and will accommodate requests even if they just cleaned the room or asked if we needed anything an hour or two earlier.
The best part of all, is this is a quiet, cozy, just outside of town stay. There is so much to do in the area and downtown Saugatuck is within walking distance (maybe an 10 minute walk) but it's worth it given eating out while on vacation.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it! As I always like to do when someone mentions that we are a pet friendly motel, I like to point out that to book one of these rooms, you must contact us directly as we only have a couple of pet friendly rooms available and are not available to book online. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again soon!

Great Stay - Our room was clean, and you can tell they work hard to maintain the property. Since I’m in my 50s, this is what I remember being a motel growing up. One piece of advice is to keep the air conditioning on max until the room is at a humidity level that works for you. It took us a day to ask about it, and the owners knew exactly what to tell us, which brings me to the second point.
Attentive Owners - From the moment we had to cancel our first reservation due to COVID restrictions, until the day we left, the owners worked with us, and helped to make our visit a pleasant success, and for that we are very grateful.
Location - With family in Douglas and most of our activities occurring between the Douglas and Saugatuck, the Captain’s Quarters was a perfect location. Additionally, every morning, I would walk to downtown Saugatuck, and it was almost exactly one mile to the center of town.
NOTE: While the owners provided us a five star stay, there were two things to note. First, the rooms are dated. I would call them “old school”, and that’s because I’m old(ish). Second, the breakfast, is more like a “grab and go” if you have no other options. Fortunately, we found some outstanding places to get coffee and breakfast.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it. As the easing of covid restrictions have taken effect, we have been able to go back to our normal breakfast options, but this is still not a "hot breakfast" (no eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, etc). To run through a few options, we offer bagels, donuts, english muffins, croissants, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, fruit, oatmeal, cereal etc. We can also recommend some great breakfast places nearby if what we serve isn't to your liking. We do also recommend keeping the AC's on during the warmer summer months as the humidity, being very near Lake Michigan, can get overwhelming. We are also always updating the property on a yearly basis, that being said, we are still a drive up motel. But the word "Motel" tends to have a negative connotation with it, and we like to strive to debunk that feeling. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your next visit!

The room was sparkling clean and comfortable. Downtown Saugatuck was an easy 5 minute drive, and its location on Blue Star Highway gave easy access to the main highway and to the town of Douglas. Breakfast was minimal but served in a lovely room.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it. We do wish we could serve a bit more for breakfast but with Covid being a constant issue this year, it has made it difficult to offer a lot of options. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your next visit!

The property is clean, beautiful, and well maintained. The owners are very nice. Breakfast is inadequate and there needs to be a micorwave and coffee pot in each room so you can have tea, coffee or warm up food all day. There isn't even a microwave in the lobby for which to do this and it's locked up at 8pm.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it. Due to Covid, we have cut down our breakfast to fit within safe measures to be able to still serve breakfast this year. We decided due to Covid to not keep coffee makers in the room as it would be very difficult to properly sanitize these in between each guests stay. We do have coffee makers available upon request though, if you would like one in your room. There is a microwave always available (24 hours a day) in a concessions room that would normally house our ice machine as well (ice machine shutdown for the year due to Covid). We are glad you enjoyed your stay overall and look forward to you rnext visit!

What a cute little gem! This adorable motel has been lovingly renovated inside & out. The location is great - only minutes from everything (downtown Saugatuck, Oval Beach, bike trails etc) Staff is very friendly & helpful and you can tell Crystal & Cody are dedicated to making this motel a success. Rooms very clean and come with all basic necessities. Highly recommend. We'll be back in the fall!

I stayed here as a last minute stay while visiting Saugatuck. It is a cute little place and clean and fit my needs for a single night stay. I was dissapointed that they didn't offer the standard shampoo, conditioner & lotion. Only one bar of soap to be used in the bathroom and shower. The rooms had those cheep plastic blinds and my room was right along the driveway so I felt that if someone really wanted to look in they could.
While I wasn't excited about the place I would return as it was clean and convenient!

Hi,
It's no more than a 10 minute drive. Probably closer to 5-7 minutes.
**We are no longer a pet friendly motel as of 2022**
No it's about a 1/2 mile out of the center, on the scenic highway.
