Breakers Resort and Beach Bar offers a comforting atmosphere with romantic elements like fireplaces and live music, though it could benefit from some updates. While most guests commend the cleanliness and the variety of amenities, including its beachfront charm, others suggest certain aspects need enhancement. Its prime location earns high marks for convenience and scenic views. Room experiences vary, with praise for cleanliness and views, but some guests mention size and noise issues. The service is generally seen as friendly, though not without occasional lapses. Opinions on value are mixed, reflecting a balance between favorable location and room-related concerns.

Rooms were clean and housekeeping did a great job of restocking clean linen & soaps as well as turndown service.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful.
The breakfast is complementary. It’s buffet style with your typical hotel breakfast food but it was good and there was a large selection that they worked hard to keep restocked.
We were on the first floor and able to just walk out onto the beach and to the bar and restaurant, which frequently had live music and good drinks. I had the tacos and the whitefish dip one evening and enjoyed them both.
Around dusk they would come out with firewood and start a fire in the fire pits so you could sit around the fire and watch the sunset right on the beach.
Any complaints were very minor. If we are ever back we will absolutely be coming here again.

Me and my wife stayed next door at the holiday inn. The club was recommended by the front desk. We figured close and on the beach why not. The atmosphere was great right on the water. The food over priced for what you get. I got the 10oz ribeye, it was ok ponderosa serves better stakes. Then I get broccoli baby potatoes and salad. Baby potatoes were good everything else sub par. Wife Got a burger and chips. Not home made chips lays kettle chips for 13 dollars a burger and lays chips give me some house dip for the chips. 56.74 for a steak and a burger and 2 drinks. Going to try driftwood before coming back. Oh and the steak looked like it was one of those frozen cheap steaks you see selling meat door to door.

Overall stay was ok, the hotel is older and needs some upgrades, was not as nice as pictured in photos online. It sounded like a stampede was happening from the floor above on a nightly basis. The air conditioning and or venting system needs an upgrade as everything in the room constantly felt moist. Housekeeping services were mediocre, cleaning was not done until very late in the day, sometimes after 4pm when we would be returning to the hotel for the night. The refrigerator in the room barely kept anything cool even on the highest setting. The sink sprayed water everywhere if you turned it on fully. The continental breakfast was not great and offered no variety from day to day and no fresh fruit in Summer which would be an easy addition. The Club restaurant was actually very good and we had some of the best dinner meals in the area there. The views are lovely and the private beach is nice. They are doing construction in a deck area near The Club on the beach, it was an inconvenience to hear sawing going on while trying to relax on the beach but that only happened once. The staff were friendly, the beds were very comfortable. With a few upgrades the price would be reasonable.

Customer Service. We had 9 people in three rooms. Every single room had issues with the card to get in and had to be fixed at different times on our first day. When we called standing at our door with an elderly grandma and multiple kids the response was “you will need to come back down”. Not a single sorry was spoken just attitude. Multiple times. And it was not just us , multiple guests had room key issues and were talking about the rudeness at the front desk.

Pool. The stairs are slippery getting in and out, 2 of us fell. The man who closes out the pool was also rude, he acted like he was closing down a bar the way he spoke, not closing down a pool at a family hotel. Nothing irritates me more then when employees act like the guests are a bother.

Stairs. We booked our rooms in March and I emailed and asked in March that they be next to each other and close to the elevator because my mom is 74. They were at the end of the hall down a set of stairs. Like the last rooms from the elevator.

Rooms. No maid service for 2 nights, bring shampoo and conditioner what they have is one small bottle for 4 people. We have stayed at multiple hotels this year around the country and I know the worker shortage is why no maid service but every other hotel automatically has filled the toiletries each night.

Breakfast. Again the service was ok, but they acted like the guests are a bother. No water was out, had to ask and they got annoyed when you did. No table cleaning both mornings, tables were gross.

Parking. Ridiculous at night, good luck finding a spot. We had 2 cars and both nights both of us had issues finding spots. It was obvious people from the next hotel over parked in the parking lot and walked over, we saw them multiple times. Hotel does nothing to monitor parking.

We stayed here for a few days on our family vacation. The hotel is in serious need of remodeling. The hallways don't have AC on and our room was dirty. There were stains on the curtains, the towels provided were frayed, broken tiles in our room, and holes in the bathroom door. The views are beautiful if you get a lakeview balcony, but the beach needs to be cleaned up as it had a lot of cigarette butts. They have the cafe on site but it was closed Monday and the next day the waitress seemed really overwhelmed and we heard them say she was ready to walk out. Their pool and spa are not clean either. When I emailed the resort to voice my complaints and ask for a partial refund, I was told I could have checked out at any point and there are plenty of people that love the resort. Terrible customer service for two nights that cost us nearly $700! Definitely wouldn't recommend.

Pros-The exterior of the office, hotel, & restaurant looked nice and welcoming with a great location on the beach with fire pits. The inside lobby was cute; the pool seemed fine, too.

Cons-Then we got to the 1/2 flight of stairs that we had to drag our suitcases down as did other guests noisily throughout our stay.

When we entered our room, it seemed as if one of the maids (who we passed sitting on the staircase texting) left an imprint and chip crumbs on one of our beds. Gross!

The next day our tiny bathroom’s, with an old wooden door that stuck to the floor, toilet backed up. Double gross!!

Our upstairs neighbor had 2 little ones who ran back & forth off and on beginning at 6am to 11pm. When we sat outside to try to escape the noise, the woman above them threw crumbs off her balcony to gather seagull to our patio area which was covered in garbage from guests walking on the grass. As we proceeded to the beach area, we noticed more garbage and children playing barefoot.

No acknowledgement from management on any of these issues.

Planned a spontaneous trip for my husband and I, initially we felt excited to have found availability at the Breakers, trip advisor pictures looked amazing, however sadly the facility was very dirty and unkept. Every outlet in our room was exposed, the balcony was covered in chewed sunflower seeds we didn’t even consider taking our shoes off, the chairs were dirty, the entry floor had a dried up liquid trail from the front entrance to the back door, which remained for a day and a half, carpets were not vacuumed etc., sadly just plain dirty. We are business owners and understand the difficulties in staffing during these trying times so we gave a little understanding as far as that goes however cleanliness should be top priority. We could tell some updates have been made, the bar/restaurant is cute and friendly. The view was lovely.
Unfortunately we would not stay again anytime soon, we paid a lot of money to stay, over 400.00 per night, it was not worth it! Possibly we will check back in the future to see if they have cleaned the place up, and also give us a better rate, we are not cheap and always willing to pay just not when you have to walk and sleep in filth.
Bummer…

We took a spontaneous trip here with low expectations considering all the covid restrictions. Luckily, the restaurant had just opened. The staff was very friendly. Hotel room was spacious, clean, and had incredible views. Food was delicious, wifi signal strong, and many little bonus features such as games in the reception area that you could borrow. We would definitely recommend this resort and would visit again! Thank you for a great stay!

Liked · The convenient location and setting, right on the beach, included a nightly campfire. The staff was very helpful. Having a concierge available 24 hours is unusual. Recommendations for restaurants were good, and we appreciated the discount on the ferry to Mackinac Island. The room was clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed the pool and hot whirlpool. The included buffet breakfast was one of the best.

Disliked · The in-room refrigerator was small, and did not have a freezer compartment, so our ice packs were not kept as cold as possible. But having an ice machine one floor down made up for that. A minor inconvenience at best.

Staying here now and find the place disappointing. The rooms are furnished in cheap motel furniture, the food is inedible and cost of the room doesn’t match the amenities.
My husband and I paid more than $500 for a 2 night stay and was given a room with a view of the parking lot and street. We had booked this in early spring and when we asked about the room we were assured of a lake view. When we checked in they said the parking lot view room was all they had. We feel that we were totally ripped off.
We didn’t eat the included breakfast because the set-up was dirty with hoards of people scrambling to get at the near empty containers.
I can’t wait to check out and never come back here.

Yes. It’s not as gigantic as the ocean beaches though. A lot calmer water too. Summertime they will have bonfires out for everyone

when was the last time this hotel was updated ? some of the reviews claim it needs updates-
Answer from MackinawAJ

Thank you for your question pepper001. We typically do one large project each winter while we are closed. Last year we did window replacements, painting, parking lot expansion and repair. This year we have taken on quite a bit. We are in the building a new lobby that is connected to the hotel, some pool renovations, balcony replacement, but our biggest most noticeable work will be on the beach with over 1000 yards of sand , and we have started on building our brand new beach bar / breakfast area. Starting in July you will not find a better view for morning breakfast or and evening cocktail. Some other minor updates are painting, the addition of a gift / sundry/ beer / wine shop, Brand New Updated WIFI throughout the entire building and grounds. No more dead spots, dropped connections, as our internet provider has upgraded our TV service and Internet to Fiber Optic. Those of you who have stayed I the past know about the old cable tv boxes and not so reliable internet service.
