We had a room w/ a balcony. Nice pool and hot tub. 24 hr coffee. Limo service to downtown Petoskey for a concert at Crooked Tree Art Center and back to our room. A staycation!! The front desk man, Grant, was pleasant and knowledgeable. Reasonably priced. We’ll be back.

This hotel is a great value. Good location...rooms are very large and beds are comfy with great pillows. Nice bathroom area with roomy vanity. And unexpected toiletries for a $59 room. The staff was warm and invitied. My only complaint was the condition of the grounds. The photos show a beautiful, grassy lawn and the walk out option of the first floor "pet" rooms was a real selling point for me as I travel with two small dogs. But, step outside the sliding glass doors and the area is strewn with cigarette butts and there's dog poop everywhere. I realize that's a reflection on the guests...not the staff. But perhaps ashtrays and a poop bag dispenser would encourage people to do the right thing. Overall....a great hotel!

Hotel definitely needs some sprucing up. Room was looking rough, especially the bathroom with patching on the walls and discolored paint. Our "balcony" was a joke and the bright outdoor lights were annoying. The pool area was unkempt, dirty towel overflowing the bin and garbage was not emptied during the few days of our stay. Breakfast consisted of packaged muffins, yogurt and fruit that required pre-ordering for morning desk pick up. Dirty towels to be left in the hallway for pick up but after being gone the entire day, no clean replacements had been left. I'm glad that I was able to book at $99 a night rate in advance because it's definitely not a $99 room and it's most definitely not worth paying the $200+ they're asking now.

Reservation: Do reserve in advance. Staff even called us the day of check-in and confirmed we’re we keeping reservation. Very professional. Hotel was full.

Very nice hotel, looks well kept and maintained. Easy to find and good location.

Microwave, refrigerator, Iron, Ironing board, hair dryer and makeup mirror (although mirror was old and did not light up—needs replacement). WiFi free, nice TV a good variety of channels except The Weather Channel which was actually CSpan. Two room cards but only one worked. Charming balcony on third floor and yes elevator worked great. Large rooms.

Cleanliness. Very clean rooms. Minor cosmetic work needed, bathroom door sticks and hard to close and needed fresh paint. Tub and shower needed some grout cleaning and repair in the corner of floor and tub. However, hall carpets need a deep cleaning or outright replacement.

Breakfast was pick up and take back to room (still under pandemic cautions). Basic, juice, muffins, coffee, waffle, instant oatmeal, good, but not outstanding.

I would stay again.

What a dump and it cost over $200 for the indignity of staying there. My antenna should have gone up because they don’t have a method of booking online on their website. You have to call and reserve your room. No confirmation was ever sent. A few days before we were to arrive, since nothing had been received, I called to confirm the reservation. They had our name but no indication of the dog we were bringing with us, which was something I had made clear since they only have a select # of rooms for pets. I was advised our pet room was gone. When I responded by saying we would get another hotel, I was told we would be upgraded to their suite at the same price.

That seemed reasonable. It was not. The room was horrific with a severely stained carpet, beds that were at least 20 years old and almost unusable, lumpy floors, and extremely aged fixtures. Of course the alarm clock in the other room in the suite went off early.

Although we did not partake, we were advised we would have to preorder breakfast, which consisted of wrapped cheap crap.

The hotel boasts of its beautiful views from each room. Our view from our first floor “suite” was of a commercial area and a busy street. We were not able to access the grass on that side of our room because the doors were barred closed.

Lowest possible rating. You are warned.

My wife and I (and our children when they were younger), have stayed at this hotel approximately 25-30 time over the past 30+ years. It was a perfect, well maintained, clean, efficient facility back then.
Pretty sure it has gone through multiple ownership changes. The original owner paid attention to every detail—right down to the beautiful flowers planted outside at entrance—and by all doors. To be sure, you cannot please every person, and every person (or group), will have different needs and expectations. However, the level that this place has slipped has been something to see over the years.
Our room had missing caulk at the bathtub where it meets the floor. The toilet paper holder that is embedded into the wall was loose and coming out. The carpeting in the rooms, hallways and especially the elevators needs some serious attention. The door/entrance we used for our entry that was always beautifully maintained with flowers and trimmed and kept up, has now become a bed of knee high weeds with ivy over growing the rock wall. THIS is the door that most people use after initial check-in, and the one that is really the face of the place. There was garbage strewn about also. Okay, Apple Tree Inn…if you don’t want to plant flowers, at least pull weeds, cut back ivy and put down some mulch. Cheap and easy.
Rooms are not cleaned every day now—and assuming this is due in part to the virus concern. But think this is being used as an excuse to do less and save money. Bath towels are old and thin. I understand that staffing is a problem everywhere—and especially up north, but rates are not cheap, and more should be expected.
I’ll end with this…ATI staff…I am always suspicious that negative reviews are not to be believed and that people like to complain…I get that. However, these are legitimate gripes from someone who has been to your place many times. It is not the same place it once was and there are many other choices in the area now comparable—and cheaper. The rooms are large—I’ll give them that. If that is important to people, by all means stay here. But be aware that there will be baggage that comes with this. Apple Tree Inn…Step. Your. Game. Up.

We stayed two nights here. Hotel was Covid friendly with staff wearing masks and a Grab and Go Breakfast. The room was on the 4th floor, a little dated, but clean; it had a balcony with a nice view of the lake. It was spacious with a larger sized mini fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker (wasn't working properly, but there was coffee in the lobby 24 hours), large counter in the bathroom. The A/C is a wall unit with slide controls. The room is quiet from outside noises and neighbors; but the air conditioner - when the A/C kicked came on, it had a very loud hum. The room seemed damp like the A/C couldn't keep up. The beds were hard so that was a little disappointing. The location of the hotel is good - near downtown and area shopping/restaurants. If they replace the mattress and fix the A/C we would definitely stay here again!

Room 209. Loud bathroom exhaust fan, heat lamp inoperable and falling out of fixture. Edge of the tub needs to be recaulked and the corners were dirty. The A/C unit was not completely affixed to the wall and the curtains had holes in the lining. Walking down the hall between rooms 201 & 202 there is a depression in the floor that is covered by the carpet creating a tripping hazard. After the first night placed used towels in basket and put in hallway per hotel policy and did not receive the same number of towels back. This is a quality control issue, how does the property keep track of their linens? A member of the housekeeping staff was sitting in the supply room watching phone with volume so loud that it could be heard the length of the hall. This property has lots of potential, management and staff need to pay attention to detail.

Upon check in we had to trip over the vacuum and then be advised at age 60 NOT to SMOKE or something Else. Unfortunately as Petoskey goes they're snobby and believe there #!-@ doesn't stink. When going back to the desk for transportation the staff was nowhere to be found until my wife shouted for help. As the clerk arrived a whiff of the substance we were advised at age 60 NOT to do in the room was quite strong within the lobby. The clerk was sorry she was doing laundry but in fact was smoking a blunt and looking at her phone. But as always it gets better, dinner the waiter was great food so so and of course the entertainment was late??? New year's eve again What!!! I asked our nice waiter if your late for work what happens his reply Fired. It is New year's eve late is not a option. The only good part of the night was the excellent transportation provided by the Casino. The following day when we checked out thank the Lord for the cleaning staff as she pointed us out to the clerk who hadn't bathed in a couple days/months and were able to leave and go home, all in all stay away from this hotel a change in staff is needed asap.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. Carpet is worn out in halls but seems clean. Steven was very nice. BUT when we went to check out they tried to charge us a 250.00 smoking fee. We do not smoke and hadn't left room that morning except for breakfast. They said a staff member entered the room and smelled smoke - 1. don't smoke and 2. they entered the room before we checked out. The front desk was very rude about it and had to argue with them about the smoke fee to get it removed. Won't stay here again - next time will stay in Traverse City and drive up to see the city. Room was 310.00 a night.
