Lovely views, great food, excellent service, and an overall lovely atmosphere. Went here for our anniversary and would definitely stay here again. We love the room, the staff was very friendly and the food (breakfast at Bayview, dinner at Noggin Room Pub) was great. Thanks for making our weekend even more enjoyable than it was.

The service from everyone was excellent, you can tell the hotel hired carefully and well. You don't miss the television (the rooms don't have them), as the location on the bay gets you out of your room to enjoy the porch and shore. Breakfast was quite good and the civilized dining room is a nice departure from the typical self-serve breakfast bar in most hotels today.

My husband and I enjoyed two nights at the Bay View Inn and could not get over the incredible service we received from the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out. The hotel and our room was impeccably clean and every employee we came across went out of their way to help with any need or inquiry we had about the hotel or town. I know Stafford's prides themselves on their hospitality but the staff they have working at the Bay View Inn really went above and beyond.

We had only one night at Stafford's Bay View Inn but wish we had more, and we will definitely be back. The inn is exceptional in every way, from the beauty and quality of the rooms and common spaces, to the view, to the warmth and caring of the staff. We are avid travelers, and this was one of our most memorable stays. Covid was no issue as everything was immaculately clean, masks and social distancing were required in common areas, and reminders and hand sanitizer were in appropriate evidence. This was our first time in Petoskey and the staff was very helpful - and spot on -- with their recommendations. We highly recommend the Bay View Inn!

It is hard to unplug these days, but if you want to give yourself the opportunity in a beautiful, pampering environment with the illusion of stepping back in time (while still having access to all of the modern amenities you choose, this is the place. Common areas and rooms are lovely and comfortable, and while the rooms are without TV's (which we came to appreciate) there is a huge flat screen in the massive library that offers seating you want to spend your life in once you sit down.

The service was detailed and defined the word hospitality, and our meals were very good, from the farmer's eggs Benedict to the morel mushroom chicken breast. Attention to quality and detail were evident - real whipped cream, fresh items whenever possible, and high quality local Michigan products.

Bay View, with its stately Victorian "cottages" is a lovely step back in time, and the shopping and restaurants in adjoining Petoskey are quality - not tourist driven. Short drives took us to Harbor Springs in one direction and Charlevoix in the other, all on the edge of the pristine Bay waters and well worth visiting. Oh, and there are Stafford's restaurants there as well, serving outstanding meals while viewing the water. We would go back monthly, if we could. It's that good.

Take note that US-31, the bayside highway that the Inn is located on is a very busy road, though the traffic subsides in the evening and it is generally very quiet at night. We enjoyed the activity on the road from our rooftop balcony, when we weren't turned the other way enjoying the picturesque view of the gardens overlooking the blue water of the Bay.

Historic Hotel is the heart of Bayview, adjacent to Petoskey is very old and antiquated and also very expensive. We had a rainy weekend so spent more time inside than we would have liked because outside are lovely views of the bay and great walking and biking trails and the hotel has nice bikes available and lots of outdoor seating. Having been forced inside by weather we missed amenities like a TV or a refrigerator. The internet is good so we were able to watch a show.

Mostly what is not good at all is the dining room. Morel soup was served lukewarm then I spent the next day ill from it. Buffet Brunch has been modified due to covid and is a menu very much like non-brunch days. We were seated at the smallest table in the empty dining room by a nasty “hostess” who is actually a manager of some sort and this was after she professed to not finding our reservation which probably was actually there. In any case the dining room remained mostly empty and with good reason. It’s awful! Coffee was tepid, poached egg raw, and English muffin not toasted. Even the fruit was awful. Sort of slimy and old. I will never go there again.

We spent 5 nights in Stafford's Bay View Inn in early June. We'd stayed here before and knew it was a great location on the Little Traverse Wheelway walking/biking/hiking trail and a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the bay views and sunsets. It's a wonderful historic hotel with lots of charm.

In my review, i wanted to emphasize the level of service at this Inn. The staff clearly prioritize making guests feel welcomed and letting them know they are there to help in any way they can. Their friendliness and service-oriented approach make you feel like you've known them forever.

We were greeted upon arrival by Ethan who seems to work there 24 X 7. He's always friendly and eager to help. I needed the charger for my EV and Ethan went outside and turned it on immediately upon knowing that. He's the best! Our server most mornings for the amazing breakfasts was Tom. He has lived in the area a long time and had a lot of good advice on things to do and cool places to see. He clearly loves the area. Finally, even our housekeeper, Bobbie Jo, was a huge help. She told us about a great kayaking experience down the road that we never would have known about. We had a blast one day kayaking the Crooked River and saw a bald eagle soaring right above us. It was an amazing day!

The bottom line is the staff here treat you like they are happy you are staying at their place. They take a great deal of pride in their work and it shows. Any time we're up this way in Michigan, we'll always make it a point to stay at Stafford's Bay View Inn.

Likely the most charming and elegant stay for those visiting the Petoskey-Harbor Springs area. We have a favorite room on the second floor opposite the library with a deck overlooking the Bay area. The service is always first class, with a luscious breakfast served in the hotel dining room in the morning. However, this comes with a fairly high price, $389 per night during the high season. Wonderful stay and a splurge for those of us more inclined to travel at a lower rate.

Room and bathroom were nice but it was very expensive. The "free" breakfast each morning was cold & tasted like it was from Gordon Food Service, disappointing after paying $325 per night. Great area and lots to do.

You cannot beat Stafford's autumn package for value. The inn is beautiful, located just steps from Lake Michigan. The rooms are lovely and the small touches like the cookies that greet you in the rooms add to the allure. The service is outstanding.

Are there elevators or handicapped accessible rooms?
Answer from S Reginald S
Petoskey, Michigan14 contributions2 helpful votes
The Bay View Inn does not have barrier free rooms in terms of a roll in shower or "free space". The elevator does provide access to all guest room floors but the capacity is maybe two persons with plus a wheel chair. The front door ramp can be a challenge. Depending on your level of mobility or whether you have a motorized "scooter", a better choice may be their sister property, Stafford's Perry Hotel.
